Vipshop Q1 Shows Triple-Digit Growth
.....
Dollar berichtet - die Zahlen klaffen also weit auseinander.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Chinese Internet companies and services are showing signs of better performance in certain areas compared with their U.S. counterparts, according to a new report from Morgan Stanley (MS).
The Morgan Stanley findings, which came out late Wednesday, were accrued at the brokerage's recent China Summit conference, which was attended by 223 Chinese companies from industries such as e-commerce, online travel and online advertising.
Mobility remains a central facet of Chinese e-commerce growth, as Morgan Stanley analysts said China's e-commerce leaders continue to derive more of their business from mobile usage than their American rivals.
According to the research, e-commerce kingpin Alibaba Group (BABA) says 51% of its business comes from mobile devices, while another sector leader, JD.com (JD), sees mobile commerce making up 42% of its business. And those rates pale compared to the 72% share of business that online discount retailer Vipshop Holdings (VIPS - Get Report) takes in via mobile sources.
Morgan Stanley contrasted the Chinese e-commerce companies' figures with those of Amazon.com (AMZN) and eBay (EBAY), which receive about 35% and 40% of their revenue from mobile commerce, respectively.
Growth in industrial output and credit accelerated, helping offset a further drop in the pace for fixed-asset investments which includes property construction, coal plants and infrastructure projects. Bloomberg’s monthly gross domestic product tracker advanced the most since January, narrowing the gap with Premier Li Keqiang’s expansion target of about 7 percent for the year.
Along with strong jobs gains in the U.S. and improving readings from Japan, stabilization in China bolsters a global outlook that’s clouded by uncertainty in Europe. The steadier economic report card gives Li more time to assess the impact of monetary easing and a debt-swap deal to help local governments.
“The economy was bottoming in May,” said Wang Tao, chief China economist at UBS Group AG in Hong Kong. “We won’t see a strong rebound, but we will see a slight improvement in the third quarter, as all kinds of stabilizing measures intensify.”
Industrial output rose 6.1 last month from a year earlier, the statistics bureau said Thursday, accelerating from 5.9 percent in April and beating the median estimate of 6.0 percent in a Bloomberg survey. Retail sales added 10.1 percent in May, while fixed-asset investment excluding rural households climbed 11.4 percent in the first five months.
Aggregate financing, which includes bank loans and off-balance credit, was 1.22 trillion yuan ($197 billion), the People’s Bank of China said. That compares with the median estimate of 1.13 trillion yuan in a Bloomberg survey. New yuan loans were 900.8 billion yuan.
The Shanghai Composite Index rose.
Bloomberg’s monthly GDP tracker, a weighted average of monthly economic indicators, climbed to 6.55 percent year-on-year in May from 6.4 percent in April.
Bloomberg economist Tom Orlik wrote. “We put a high probability on a further rate cut in the third quarter. More targeted measures to support local government infrastructure and social housing projects seem assured.”

Each Chinese company on the list has U.S. counterparts. Vipshop, an online discount retailer, offers branded apparel and other goods similar to the model pioneered by eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) in the U.S.
It's been under attack recently by short-seller Mithra Forensic Research, which in mid-May claimed Vipshop had overstated some of its strong growth figures. Vipshop countered the report and invited investors to do research. Still, on May 27, Stifel analysts initiated coverage on Vipshop with a buy rating and 32 price target.

We rate VIPSHOP HOLDINGS LTD -ADR (VIPS) a BUY. This is driven by several positive factors, which we believe should have a greater impact than any weaknesses, and should give investors a better performance opportunity than most stocks we cover. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, notable return on equity, impressive record of earnings per share growth and compelling growth in net income. We feel its strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had generally high debt management risk by most measures that we evaluated.
