$ einsammelte.

So you’ve heard of Alibaba, Amazon and eBay, but have you heard of Rakuten?

According to Technode, this little-known Japanese e-commerce giant has become wildly popular in the Middle Kingdom, with Chinese customers spending JPY1 billion in 2016 alone on merchandise from the online supermarket.

Thanks to partnerships with host supermarkets JD.com and Netease, Rakuten has finally managed to penetrate into China’s notoriously difficult e-commerce marketplace, after having pulled their store from Baidu in 2012.

What makes this application so appealing for English-speakers is the bright, clean and accessible interface, all laid out in easy to understand English

Out-of-this-world experiences: Searches for space travel on Pinterest were up 70% in January compared with the year-ago month, while Airbnb said it has almost 3,000 homes listed that are equipped with telescopes.

Calling all thrill seekers: Pinterest searches for adventure travel are up 693% in January versus January 2018, including swimming holes (up 260% year-over-year), abandoned amusement parks (185%), cave diving (143%) and surprise destinations (192%). Airbnb said it also sees more searches for adventure- and passion-based travel, noting that it teamed up with the World Surf League in 2016 to unlock some 10,000 surfing-related experiences worldwide.

Careem hopes to grow from a ride-hailing app to a lifestyle app

The top ride-hailing platform from Dubai, Careem, is making changes to turn their mobile app into more of an everyday platform that will be available for the Middle East and Africa.
In recent months, Careem has expanded into new markets across the region as well as tier two cities. Careem also leveraged the existing infrastructure built out for its ride-hailing service to launch online delivery for goods and services with initial efforts focused on food service. It also launched peer-to-peer, closed loop and prepaid credit transfer service to its consumer base. More recently, it introduced a rewards program, giving its 33 million users points on all rides.

Rakuten Inc (4755 JP) is much in the news for many reasons - one of which being a plunge into the deeper waters of being the fourth Type I Mobile Network Operator in Japan, having officially applied for the license in February 2018 and seeing it approved in April.  - the license for which it applied a year ago, with approval received in April 2018. The goal has been to use its initial foray into the MVNO business where it has more than 1.5 million users, and increase its footprint to attract some of its 100+mm Rakuten IDs, 7mm Rakuten Bank accountholders, 3mm Rakuten Securities accountholders, so that it can increase the LTV (LifeTimeValue) of its existing customer base.

The goal is to introduce service this year (also a requirement of the terms of its license), growing steadily to have 15mm subs in 10 years.

Earning discounts and cash back just for shopping online might sound too good to be true. But cashback websites such as Rakuten, BeFrugal, Swagbucks, Ibotta and Mr. Rebates can actually work. And as long as you go through them for purchases you need to make anyway, using these sites can be more lucrative than shopping with a rewards credit card.

Rakuten is one of the largest and most commonly used cashback sites. For many years, the company was known as Ebates. However, after Rakuten acquired Ebates in 2014, it decided to officially change the name in 2019.

The original Ebates was founded in 1999, and the site has more than 10 million users and has paid out more than $1 billion in cashback rewards. And numerous personal finance bloggers told HuffPost they felt it offered the best deals compared to other similar sites.
