(Infocast News) In response to PCCW's (1186) acquisition price for C&W HKT (0008) has a great discount as PCCW's share price falling sharply recently, Richard Li, PCCW Chairman, explained in a luncheon that arbitrage activities will be carried out as acquisition period lenghtens. He said that it is abnormal if acquisition price has a premium at this moment.

He pointed out that while acquisition closes to completion, the level of discount in acquisition price will be narrowed. He said that if market intends to calculate this level of discount, the market should compare situation of PCCW takeover C&W HKT with other similar types of merger, such as the merger of Warner and AOL.

He underlined that PCCW has confidence to takeover C&W HKT successfully. Moreover, C&W said that the company has not received any other reliable acquisition plan up to now.
