„There are three major e-commerce platforms in Japan: Rakuten, the most veteran platform, founded in 1997, has accumulated a substantial following of 51.4 million active users in April 2020 and earned the equivalent of €29.6 billion in 2020. Yahoo Japan shopping began in 1999 and hasn’t built as great a customer base, but is 29.4 million users strong with a €6.76 billion revenue in 2020. Finally, Japanese online shoppers are turning to the newest platform of the three more than ever: Amazon. Started in Japan in 2000, Amazon Japan has the highest user base, with 52.5 million active users and a revenue of €25.8 billion in 2020.“

Rakuten Cards has increased its market share by 5.0 percentage points over the last 18 months to reach 21.4%.
Although new customers are not as attractive as Rakuten Cards’ old customers, they still offer significant GTV growth potential.
The segment will likely hit the medium term target for cards issued before 3Q23. However, it might take an additional year or two to reach the GTV target.

Dr. David Soldani, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Rakuten Symphony:
„Rakuten Symphony is attracting considerable global attention, with four customers and 27 prospective clients in the Americas; three customers and 19 prospects in Europe; and four customers and 22 prospects in Asia-Pacific. Also, it has 12 prospective clients in Middle East & Africa, and five in Russia and the CIS.
Governments should support open, global, industry-led, and inclusive multi-stakeholder approaches for the development of technical standards, including as they relate to telecommunications equipment and services.
These international standards will be key enablers to enshrine openness and interoperability in the telecommunications sector, such as through Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN).
A successful transition to 5G and beyond requires a diverse and competitive marketplace which prevents dependence on a small number of suppliers or a single country in the telecoms technology supply chain.
Rakuten Symphony supports this supplier diversity, contributing to supply chain resiliency and more secure, transparent, and reliable infrastructure.
Rakuten Symphony approach to mobile communication systems lowers barriers to entry and innovation, increases market-based competition, improve network management and security, and reduce costs.

AQUOS sense6 handled by Rakuten Mobile
Rakuten Mobile is Sharp’s middle range smartphone “AQUOS sense6“(SIM-free) is now on sale. The price is 39,800 yen. The sales channels are the official website, Rakuten Ichiba store, and Rakuten mobile shop actual store. The colors are light copper, silver, and black.
In addition, AQUOS sense6 also handles docomo (57,024 yen) and au (40,470 yen), but Rakuten Mobile’s 30,000 yen level is quite cheap. This is because I felt that the AQUOS sense 6 with a metal unibody was more luxurious than the price.

Invading user privacy by collecting data just to sell it is an unimaginative waste of time and business intelligence, and it can irreparably damage a company’s relationship with its customers. Smart businesses are establishing relationships with users built on trust — trust that the data users are handing over will ultimately benefit them in the form of features and services that meet their ever-changing needs.
Building a data-driven digital business that respects user privacy doesn’t mean sacrificing profits. On the contrary, satisfying users by fully understanding their needs — through strategic data collection and the use of AI and decision intelligence — is the only way to ensure long-term profitability.

In the Latest BNPL Twist, Afterpay Users Can Rack up Cash Back in a Rakuten Program
Kevin Woodward December 6, 2021
Consumers have flocked to buy now, pay later services, but providers still have to find ways to stand out. Afterpay Ltd. hopes to do that by enabling consumers who have a Rakuten account to earn cash back in the Rakuten program.
Announced Monday, the Afterpay program enables Afterpay users who also enroll in the Rakuten service to earn cash that can be paid out as a check or to a PayPal Holdings Inc. account.
Australia-based Afterpay, which has U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, says it wants to encourage consumers to take advantage of both services when they shop at participating retailers, a spokesperson says. Among participating merchants are MAC Cosmetics, Crocs, Ulta Beauty, Urban Outfitters, and Ray-Ban. The rates for earning cash back will vary by merchant, as it typically does for consumers using Rakuten.
“This is the first time that Afterpay and Rakuten are coming together to stack the power our platforms, and communicate the combined benefits to both retailers and consumers,” the spokesperson says.

Rakuten is a leading shopping rewards program that offers Cash Back, deals and rewards from thousands of brands across apparel, health and beauty, dining, grocery, travel, on-demand services, subscription boxes and more. Members have earned $3.5 billion in Cash Back just for starting their shopping at Rakuten.com, in the Rakuten mobile app, or with the Rakuten browser extension. Similarly, recent findings have shown that Afterpay's U.S. customers could save up to $459m in credit card fees and interest in 2021 by making purchases with Afterpay instead of a credit card, further showcasing the value of this partnership for both consumers and merchants.
