HCM CITY — The leading messaging app, Rakuten Viber, has recently introduced a number of enhancements that will support teachers, parents and students during the new school year.
The new enhancements, Viber said, follow the company’s commitment to facilitate the educational process.
The Japanese-owned communications platform has launched a quiz mode for both group chats and communities, empowering teachers to easily check the level of understanding of classes about their subjects in their respective communities.
After the quiz streams live in both communities and group chats, other users can see the distribution of answers by the other participants who voted. But only after each individual has taken part will they be able to see the correct answer, together with a short explanation of the answer.
Individual answers of participants in a quiz in communities will be kept private, even for the creator of the quiz. They will only see the distribution of answers per question, while for the group chats, the creator of the quiz will have the opportunity to track the vote of each respondent.
This functionality is useful for anyone interested in checking the knowledge, understanding or opinions of the community members, or creating fun quizzes on various topics.
“At the end of the last school year, the digitisation of learning went from a gradual process to something that literally happened overnight as countries across the globe went into lockdown. In just a few days the entire educational process was moved from classrooms to students’ and teachers’ homes.
"Many Viber communities between students, teachers, and parents were created to support the overall education process. Going through the numbers today and comparing the same period last year globally, the number of users who chatted in communities has doubled, which proves Viber is a valuable ally in the quest of finding the new balance in these challenging times,” said Anna Znamenskaya, Chief Growth Officer at Rakuten Viber.

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 1 3:18 p.m., July 24) — Rakuten Viber is setting its sights on becoming more than a messaging platform in the Philippines, eyeing to integrate services such as money remittance and e-commerce on its app over the next three years.
Once in effect, Djamel Agaoua, chief executive of Viber, told Philstar.com, Filipino users of the app will be able to send money, read the news and shop through the company’s “partners.” Negotiations are ongoing between Viber and service providers to use the app as medium to reach customers.
“A few years from now, people in the Philippines will be able to send money to each other on Viber or browse a catalog and buy some products on Viber and exchange with their banks. We’re already having discussions with partners to implement those services,” Agaoua said in a recent online interview.
As it is, Viber is not starting off a new venture powerless. Around 40 million Filipinos are currently Viber subscribers, providing a huge client base for services looking to touch base with other clients.

Sinn macht das ganze nur, wenn man wie in Großbritannien für diese Punkte Einkaufskarten von namhaften Anbieter erwerben kann:
https://www.rakuten.co.uk/points-exchange

Rakuten recently launched their long-waited and highly-anticipated 5G network service. Despite a Covid-19 induced delay, Rakuten has managed to put up a 5G network in a very short time. The jury is out as to whether they have succeeded but one thing is for certain, Rakuten has proven that an industry outsider can put up a compelling offering with the help of new cloud-based and open technologies.
neXt Curve is joined by Foong King Yew, renewed ICT industry analyst and former Gartner research vice president to explore the following topics:
• What is special about Rakuten’s 5G strategy and rollout? – We provide our impressions of the Rakuten 5G network launch event that took place on September 30, just five months after the launch of their first-of-a-kind cloud-native mobile network.
• What’s the big deal about cloud-native and 5G?– Tareq Amin touts that Rakuten’s mobile network is the first fully cloud-native network in the world. We discuss why this is a big deal.
• Is Rakuten Mobile just an MNO or are they more? – Rakuten is widely considered a disruptive player in the mobile wireless industry. We discuss why Rakuten is a big deal and why they are a big deal and why they are more than a traditional MNO.
• What can traditional operators learn from Rakuten’s 5G? – Is it good for traditional players in the mobile wireless space to emulate Rakuten or is Rakuten more of a portent of things to come, the UTB (Under The Bottom) revolution the will change the ICT universe as we knew it?

Al Nasser, Group CEO, stc. “We are confident this [agreement] will bring tangible results in terms of developing a new advanced technology strategy and accelerating the early deployment of novel and sophisticated services.”

For yet another year, FAO is reaching out globally via the popular instant messaging platform, Rakuten Viber, to bring about change in nutrition and people’s diets across the world. For the 75th celebration, the lovable fruits and vegetable stickers speak up for all the joy, excitement, and feelings we couldn’t always express in person this year.
The stickers are available again for download at no cost and for a limited period of only 15 days. The stickers are linked to an interactive and educational Viber community, named FAO World Food Day, where people can learn from FAO experts the nitty-gritties of healthy and diverse eating, as well as get inspiration to take on new sustainable habits.
Now, it is time to reach out to everyone and wish them a “Cherry good day!” with a sticker on Viber and join the FAO World Food Day community!

9 companies from across the connectivity ecosystem have won awards at the 4th Network Transformation Awards – with two prizes for ZTE Corporation and wins for SK TELECOM, Telenor Pakistan, Netcracker Technology, NTT Communications, the Rural Cloud Initiative (RCI), Fungible, Altiostar and Anuta Networks.
Innovation: New Product Innovation: Altiostar
Altiostar pioneered the first commercial deployment of a fully virtualized Open RAN (Open vRAN) using O-RAN principles, which implements a container-based cloud-native micro-service architecture. This new architecture enables advanced cloud-based networks that support new applications and services to be deployed with advanced automation, newer algorithms, and improved QoE while ensuring network slicing and a CUPS architecture can be supported.

The Japanese internet company Rakuten, Inc. employed approximately 20 thousand people in fiscal year 2019. The number of employees more than doubled during the past decade, indicating the ongoing success of Rakuten as Japan's leading e-commerce provider.

Earlier in 2020, Rakuten launched its own network, and as a result this is the first time we have included Rakuten in an Opensignal Japan Mobile Network Experience report. But in its rookie report, Rakuten leads the established three operators as our Rakuten users saw 11.8 Mbps upload speeds compared with 9.9 Mbps for SoftBank, 9.5 Mbps for DoCoMo and 8.3 Mbps for au. It's unusual for a new operator to win an Opensignal award at a first attempt.

We’re proud to announce that the winner of this year’s FierceWireless Rising Star is Rakuten’s Rahul Atri.
Last week we published our story “FierceWireless presents its 2020 class of Rising Stars,” listing 10 top executives on the rise in the wireless industry. We had a great slate of young executives who were nominated by their companies and selected by the FierceWireless editors.
But after a week of voting in a community-rallying poll, Rakuten’s Rising Star came out on top with 16,229 votes.
Rahul Atri is definitely making a name for himself in the mobile ecosystem. As head of Rakuten Mobile’s Automation Center of Excellence (CoE), Atri is leading the charge on integrating artificial intelligence into the telecom network and implementing an end-to-end automation strategy.
“You will not see other telcos that have an Automation CoE,” he said. “That is something we take great pride in. We are building a model and hopefully making life easier for other operators, who will be able to follow our model.” You can read his full Rising Stars profile, here.
Atri hails from northern India and started his career working with greenfield telco operators and startups. He also worked alongside Rakuten Mobile CTO Tareq Amin when they were both at Reliance Jio, building the company’s very successful greenfield mobile network in India.
Congratulations to Rahul Atri. And thanks to all the Fierce readers who voted for their favorite 2020 Rising Star.
