As part of the long-term vision, Pankajakshan said that Rakuten’s customers could sign on to the service using their Rakuten ID, potentially enabling them to benefit from RCS across multiple devices, regardless of whether they have a SIM card. “The speed of deploying this is amazing,” he added. “As it will all be done in software, we are able to make changes a lot faster.”

Amazon’s core business may be slowing, but some of its smaller businesses are not
Amazon (AMZN), which is by far the e-commerce leader in the United States, could also see reasonable growth—although that growth seems to be slowing.
e-Commerce growth in Japan is likely to be the slowest of the lot due to Rakuten’s (RKUNY) sluggish growth in its core business.
According to eMarketer, these markets have seen tremendous growth, as companies such as Amazon, Rakuten, and Alibaba have respective e-commerce businesses that are “heavily entrenched” in their digital payment systems

In just two years, the Rakuten Pay app has firmly established its position as Japan’s top mobile payments solution. Research conducted by Rakuten through Intage in 2018 revealed that Rakuten Pay not only has the most users, but also enjoys the highest customer satisfaction rating and the most attractive incentives among payment apps.
The app takes advantage of Rakuten’s ubiquitous ID system in Japan, connecting seamlessly to the Rakuten Ecosystem: Users need only to log in with their Rakuten ID and select a payment card. Shoppers can elect to pay using Rakuten Super Points instead of a credit card, and can even earn points back on purchases.
Adding to the app’s success is the large number of stores that accept it. Currently over 1.2 million locations are part of Rakuten’s payment network, from Rakuten Pay to Rakuten Edy, Rakuten Point Card and Rakuten Card affiliate stores.

SAN FRANCISCO AND DUBAI — Uber and Careem have reached an agreement for Uber to acquire Careem for $3.1 billion, consisting of $1.7 billion in convertible notes and $1.4 billion in cash. The acquisition of Careem is subject to applicable regulatory approvals. The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2020.

"The notes will be convertible into Uber shares at a price equal to $55 a piece, Uber said, marking a nearly 13 percent increase over Uber’s share price in its last financing round, led by SoftBank Group Corp more than a year ago."

Pinterest’s roadshow, in which underwriters will pitch the IPO to potential investors, is expected to begin this month, a person familiar with the matter has said.
While the proposed terms of the share sale likely won’t be disclosed until a later filing, Pinterest could raise about $1.5 billion in an IPO valuing it at $12 billion or more, people familiar with the matter have said. The company plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker PINS.

Damit einher gehen personalisierte Kaufempfehlungen.

Viber, the messaging app owned by Rakuten that a year ago said it had 1 billion registered users, has added another feature in its longer-term efforts to add more stickiness to its service, while also bringing in a little more revenue to the business: users now have the option of subscribing to have “local numbers” that can receive phone calls and SMS messages as if those calls and messages are being sent to mobile numbers in specific regions.
Viber Local Number, as the service is called, is available to anyone globally but for now the numbers you can register are in the US, UK and Canada, with more countries getting added soon. All area codes in the US will be covered at launch. Viber said that the first 10,000 people to sign up will be able to pay $1.99 per month indefinitely for the service. Otherwise, it’s being priced at $4.99/month.

Viber Local Number: Get a Local Number – No Matter Where You Are
„It can be really tough to keep in touch with loved ones back home when you are abroad. Luckily for you, that’s where Viber is super helpful, with free Viber-to-Viber calls and messages and low-cost outbound calls to non-Viber numbers with Viber Out. We are delighted to introduce Viber Local Number, a new service that offers you great value inbound calls.
Think of the following scenario: You have moved abroad for work, but you visit back home often and need to keep certain things going there. Viber Local Number is ideal. If you don’t want to let people know you are abroad, give them your Viber Local Number and they will call you the same way as if you were still there. The responsibility for keeping in touch with loved ones back home is no longer only yours. Now other people can call you without even thinking about the high price of long-distance calls, and you can chat with them wherever you are.“
