Rakuten wesentlich besser als Rocket

The Rakuten NFT marketplace has opened for business.
NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are a way to assign unique identifiers to specific pieces of digital media using blockchain technology. In recent years, the tokens have gained prominence as a method of verifying the ownership of digital assets such as art, allowing digital artists to create and sell their works in much the same way as physical art.
Since February 25, Rakuten members in Japan have been able to sign up to buy and sell digital assets on Rakuten’s new NFT marketplace.
Intellectual Property (IP) holders can build their own websites on the platform to display and sell their assets, while traders can purchase and sell NFTs issued by IP holders.
The platform is fully integrated with Rakuten’s ecosystem, meaning existing Rakuten members can simply sign in with their Rakuten ID and start trading. Users are even able to earn and spend Rakuten Points on trades. With a star-studded launch lineup and plans for general user-issued tokens in the near future, it’s never been easier for Rakuten members across Japan to climb aboard the NFT train.
Rakuten NFT has partnered with a number of major IP holders to kick-start the platform’s NFT library, covering everything from anime and music to the world of sports.
One significant partnership involves a classic Japanese superhero character: Ultraman. A number of CG assets from the perennially popular franchise are available for purchase through Rakuten NFT.
Other upcoming highlights include NFTs of rare footage from the archives of Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi, trading cards from visual kei rock idol group Under Beasty, and select cultural NFTs from clothing brand Beams.
Rakuten is also leveraging its extensive partnership with Japan’s premier soccer league the J.League, for whom Rakuten Ichiba is the official e-commerce partner. Plans are in the works to develop and issue NFTs for the J.League NFT Collection Players Anthem.
Fergal Downey, Vice President of Engineering at Rakuten Blockchain Lab, commented, “Over the last five years, Rakuten Blockchain Lab has invested in creating the building blocks to enable the launch of innovative new services such as Rakuten NFT. Combining the benefits of blockchain technology with the existing Rakuten Ecosystem offers huge potential for Rakuten as well as our members and partners.”
Powering Japan’s artists
In the days leading up to launch, Rakuten NFT revealed an extensive partnership with art curation unit Art Powers Japan, a team of artists, art critics and professors with a stated mission to support Japan’s artists.
The unit is hoping to leverage the power of NFTs to solve a significant challenge faced by many creators of unconventional art — namely, that artwork lacking a convenient, physical form can be difficult to make a living from through traditional channels. Performance art, installation art and media art are some examples of artworks which, despite their artistic nature, don’t enjoy the ease of trade of something like a framed painting.
The group is already planning to issue NFTs of certain “experiences,” using VR and video to capture artistic moments such as a Japanese tea ceremony or ikebana flower arranging.
Rakuten NFT could well prove the perfect platform for the group to take on their global ambitions. At launch, the platform will host the Rakuten NFT Art Gallery, featuring a range of digital artwork from notable creators, including the artist behind the graphics of breakthrough singer Ado. The gallery is expected to commence sales in mid-2022 or later.
Just the beginning
The service is far from Rakuten’s first blockchain rodeo: The Rakuten Blockchain Lab has been exploring blockchain applications in e-commerce and fintech since 2016, while Rakuten Wallet started providing spot trading services in Japan for crypto assets in 2019.
But Rakuten NFT could well be Rakuten’s most ambitious blockchain project yet. With its stated goal of making NFTs simple enough for anyone to try, the platform aims to close the gap between crypto enthusiasts and the general public.

Bank IPO a Step Towards Unlocking Fintech but Mobile Worries Remain
Equity Bottom-Up
17 Mar 2022 11:40
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
· The pending IPO of Rakuten Bank could be worth ¥380bn (2x book) and boosts appreciation of a fintech business we think is worth ¥1,400/share
· That is well above the current share price reflecting the valuation drag of an expensive mobile segment, which is expected to hit peak losses in Q1 22
· We expect mobile break-even will take longer than expected and downside here offsets fintech excitement - we remain at Neutral

Einige weitere FAST-Channels sollen folgen.

Having an outsider’s mindset helps, says Rakuten
Something as a Service (XaaS) – on-demand companies operating within the cloud – will symbolize a $400 billion market alternative for Communication Service Suppliers (CSPs) by 2025, in line with a latest report by Bain & Firm. The report predicts that by then, half of telecom’s income development in enterprise and business-to-business gross sales will come from XaaS fashions – assuming they will differentiate themselves from hyperscalers.
Disruptive transformation in telecom for Rakuten facilities on what Arvania describes as 4 strategic innovation pillars: Disaggregated Radio Entry Community (RAN), unified cloud, large automation, and platform group.
https://channel969.com/whats-disruption-as-a-service/
Accenture has described Open RAN is one of the most “hotly debated topics in the industry” currently. An industry survey by Telecoms.com last November found that almost half of respondents have already deployed Open RAN or plan to do so soon.
Jefferson Wang, Accenture’s cloud-first networks and 5G lead, said Open RAN is accelerating in certain regions like Europe faster than others, which he believes is for three key reasons.
“One is the ability to try and look for a lower way to actually drive the cost down,” Wang said. “The second is also dependent upon the geopolitical situation, the need to replace other equipment providers is another reason why. And then the third one is to try and create more of that competitive landscape so that you could actually generate more innovation on a quicker level.
Overall, he believes Open RAN is going to be successful in certain areas “and is needed”. But change is going to come in phases.

Introduction
The SMO is an automation platform for Open RAN Radio Resources and known as Service Management and Orchestration (SMO).The specifications for SMO framework are defined by Open RAN Alliance. Hierarchically, it is a component of the OSS. The SMO platform support multiple deployment options to suit the end-user requirements e.g. it can deployed with distributed system, deployed on premises with telco-cloud as-a-Service etc.

Rakuten has become popular not only because of its great deals, but because it’s easy for anyone to use.
The best way to use Rakuten is to pair it with a credit card that also provides cash back or rewards when you shop at your favorite stores. For example, if you have a card that earns 1% cash back on Amazon purchases, you can pair it with Rakuten cash-back offers.
Rakuten isn’t just for consumers who prefer online shopping. If your tech-averse mom prefers shopping at brick-and-mortar stores, she can still use Rakuten to save money.
Rakuten has cash-back offers at more than 2,500 stores, including Target, Kohl’s, and Amazon, so you’re likely to find an offer at a store where you already shop[2]. They also have offers for both everyday shopping and luxury brands such as Rebecca Minkoff, Harvey Nichols, and Bumble and Bumble.

Currently, a 5G ORAN leader NEC is working closely with telecom service providers, and government bodies to create high capacity backhaul capabilities for 5G. NEC microwave backhaul and its PASOLINK series is the leader in this category. It is now building the internet of the future and exploring the possibility of commercially deploying ORAN technology for 5G networks by replicating global success stories.
“NEC’s ‘India Go Big’ initiative aptly defines the unique scale of growth that India offers. “Through this, we intend to more than double our talent pool, from 6000 to 14000, and thereby attract the finest brains. We are building solutions for the most complex social challenges that shape India,” says Kumar
As part of this initiative, NEC led the world’s first 5G commercial implementation for Rakuten in Japan from India. It deployed BSS/OSS, 5G R.U., and 5G core solutions for its fully virtualized cloud-native network. In addition, NEC is partnering with Rakuten to promote ORAN worldwide and developing containerized standalone 5G core network to be utilized in Rakuten Mobile’s fully virtualized cloud-native 5G network.
Recently, NEC added 18 more runs to its portfolio to serve customers across varied bands and configurations. With the launch of 5G haul, Transformation Services NEC plans to support CSPs to revolutionize transport networks for 5G.
Alongside Rakuten, NEC has added many new customers to its open network footprint. For instance, NEC will be the key supplier to Deutsche Telekom’s O-RAN Town project and will participate in Telefónica’s trials in its key markets of Spain, the UK, Germany, and Brazil. NEC’s collaboration with long-standing Open RAN operators such as NTT DOCOMO, Vodafone, and Altiostar has also deepened.
Additionally, NEC is exploring possibilities with micro 5G platforms where closed-loop private networks can unlock better IoT applications on improved data corridors driving unprecedented innovation in smart cities, manufacturing, transportation, and logistics.

Rakuten Securities’ investment information media “Toushiru” official YouTube channel, the first major online securities management channel has exceeded 150,000 registered users!
However, we are pleased to announce that the number of people has exceeded 150,000 for the first time in a program operated by a major online securities company. It was the first YouTube channel of a major online securities company in September 2021. * Since the number of registered users reached 100,000, it has increased by 50,000 in the shortest time in the past, about 6 months.
With a wide range of themes from market information to asset formation, we currently deliver 50 to 60 videos every month, which have been well received by many people.
This channel is mainly performed by analysts who are enrolled in Rakuten Securities Economic Research Institute, and because Rakuten Securities independently plans, records, and edits programs.

Cyclical Value Investing
Rakuten is the largest e-commerce company in Japan, the 3rd biggest economy in the world. In most countries, this position would allow the company to trade at very expensive multiples, riding a global boom in valuation of established tech companies.
With only a $12B market cap, the company is tiny compared to Alibaba ($339B) or Amazon ($1579B). Amazon’s revenues are 33.6x Rakuten’s, but its market cap is 122x larger.
At a price to sales ratio of 0.9, Rakuten is far from bubble territory.
Market negativity toward Rakuten is mostly linked to its expansion in the unprofitable mobile services segment. Investors have widely judged it a strategic mistake that caused the company to lose large amounts of money in a capital-intensive sector.
On top of the mobile expansion problem, Japanese equities have still not recovered from their highest point in 1989, 33 years ago (see below the Nikkei 225). There is little attention and enthusiasm for Japanese stocks in general.
This is something to keep in mind, as its influences how most analysts will judge any Japanese company, Rakuten included. Misallocation of capital and stagnation is not only common but expected. Any sign of trouble makes investors run away without a look back.
Until very recently, Rakuten was essentially operating only in Japan, with a focus on B2C sales. With an entirely new business line of international B2B service launching a month ago, inaugurated by a $2B contract, this is about to change. It should change investor perception of the company as well.
In this report, I will show the following:
The quality and growth of e-commerce segment alone coils support a much higher market cap. We will also discuss why some Japanese equities deserve a second look, especially growing and modern companies.
The capital-intensive phase of the mobile operations is largely done. Their losses should drop dramatically and they might even turn profitable.
The Rakuten ecosystem is a world-class moat, and the mobile activity reinforces it.
The financial branch of the company is largely not discussed, despite large opportunities available in Online Banking, FinTech, Insurtech, and for monetizing the data collected.
The investment in mobile network technology has been used to develop a unique technology stack, similar to what Amazon did with AWS. It could be massively adopted abroad by low-cost mobile operators, as demonstrated by some recent high-margin sales of the solution. This will also transform Rakuten’s investing profile from “Japan e-commerce” to a diversified international tech conglomerate.

Rakuten Mobile continued its winning ways at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, taking home a GLOMO award trophy for the second straight year in 2022. The annual GLOMO (Global Mobile) Awards is one of the most prestigious recognitions in telecom, celebrating the individuals and companies driving innovation and showcasing excellence in the rapidly growing mobile industry.
“THIS IS THE YEAR THAT REAL 5G SERVICES TAKE OFF AND THE EXPERIENCE THAT RAKUTEN MOBILE HAS GAINED CAN HELP SHOW OTHER MOBILE NETWORK OPERATORS HOW TO REALIZE THE SAME BENEFITS AS THEY BUILD THEIR NETWORKS.”
TAREQ AMIN, CEO, RAKUTEN MOBILE*
Rakuten Mobile won in the “Best Network Software Breakthrough” category, based on its use of Open RAN architecture during the set up and deployment of its nationwide 5G network across Japan.
The awards are judged by independent experts, analysts, journalists, academics and mobile operator representatives. Winning the award in consecutive years is a testament to Rakuten Mobile’s groundbreaking approach to maximizing the efficient use of technology and championing a more open, software-based future for the industry.
Commenting on the recognition, Tareq Amin, CEO, Rakuten Mobile*, said, “Winning this award from such an esteemed industry body is a great honor. This is the year that real 5G services take off and the experience that Rakuten Mobile has gained can help show other mobile network operators how to realize the same benefits as they build their networks.”
Rakuten Mobile’s 5G network is being built from the ground up on an Open RAN-based cloud native platform which provides flexibility and elasticity for architecting, deploying and scaling 5G network rollouts. It enables advanced life cycle management, fewer onsite RAN elements, and, together with the use of COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) hardware and automation, faster site installations and maintenance. All of these benefits support diverse 5G use cases with lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
The innovations driven by this industry-transforming approach allow cost savings to be passed on to Rakuten Mobile subscribers. Currently, the coverage and service offerings of the 5G network in Japan are set to expand, optimizing this cutting-edge technology.
This year’s GLOMO Award is recognition of the success of Rakuten Mobile’s world-first network to date, and the company’s commitment towards a new and exciting future for the telecom industry.

AST SpaceMobile Announces Collaboration with Orange
Mar 25, 2022
AST SpaceMobile, Inc. ("AST SpaceMobile") (NASDAQ: ASTS), the company building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network designed to be accessible directly by standard mobile phones, today announced a non-binding memorandum of understanding (“MoU”) with Orange S.A. ("Orange"), one of the world's leading telecommunications operators serving more than 220 million mobile customers across the globe.
The joint effort would examine the opportunity for Orange to test the SpaceMobile service in one African country, following AST SpaceMobile's planned launch of BlueWalker 3, its test satellite with an aperture of 693 square feet that's designed to communicate directly with cell phones via 3GPP standard frequencies. It also paves the way for the two companies to discuss a potential agreement to serve Orange subscribers through AST SpaceMobile's planned network of BlueBird satellites
