OTI is Working With E-Kart Electronic Card Systems to Provide the Add-On to Turkcell
Turkcell Has Over 33 Million Subscribers in Turkey
ISELIN, N.J., May 5, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTI) (Nasdaq:OTIV), a global leader in contactless smart card solutions, today announced that Turkcell, Turkey's largest mobile network operator with over 33 million subscribers, has chosen OTI's COPNI mobile payment solution for its near field communication (NFC) program, that is launched as "Turkcell Cep-T Cuzdan".
Turkcell has commenced a rollout of an NFC program, with initial focus on contactless payment applications that will enable to increase transaction flow and provide additional business, as well as strengthen even further Turkcell's position as a leading technology and service provider for the Turkish market.
OTI's COPNI™ (Contactless Payment and NFC Insert) enables Turkcell's own branded handset the T10 to support NFC functionality and contactless payment applications from major card associations. Following payment applications, other applications such as transportation, ticketing or loyalty will be available to Turkcell Cep-T Cuzdan subscribers by the end of the year, and customers will experience the real wallet concept with the convenience of their mobile equivalent.
A COPNI-enabled mobile phone is a platform that enables mobile network operators (MNOs) to provide a true after-market solution to existing subscribers, filling the gap between the demand and lack of handsets with embedded NFC. Simply tapped near a contactless reader, the COPNI-enabled mobile phone can be used in a broad range of payment transactions including prepaid, credit and debit, as well as loyalty programs and other NFC related applications.
E-Kart General Manager Enver Irdem quoted: "NFC is an ecosystem that delivers security and confidentiality to the inhabitants such as financial institutes, GSM operators, transport companies, ad agencies, individual end users etc. each with their own requirements and expectations. E-Kart, manufacturing and personalizing banking, gsm and transportation cards as the market leader for the past 10 years both in Turkey and as one of the Trusted Service Managers (TSM) in the region, offers a complete one stop NFC solution for the ecosystem.
"OTI's COPNI™ (Contactless Payment and NFC Insert) enables E-Kart to deliver security, reliability, flexibility and portability to our customers within the ecosystem."
Oded Bashan, Chairman and CEO of OTI, commented: "We are happy to work with Turkcell, providing them the ability to offer NFC with applications such as payment and transit, for different models in a true after market, cost-effective solution. OTI is working in Turkey for several years, providing its contactless payment products to multiple issuers and retailers."

The contract's initial order is for $2.5 million and such revenues are scheduled to be recognized by OTI this year. The agreement, to facilitate automated refueling at both on-road service stations and home bases, is for ten years. OTI will generate ongoing revenues, in addition to product sales, from the provision of a wide range of services including key account management, fuel management reports and a comprehensive service bureau. It is anticipated that additional orders will be placed as the project expands to support other government ministries that will select additional sites and vehicles.
As government vehicles refuel across the country, home base facilities and priority on-road service stations will be equipped during phase one of the project, with additional refueling locations enabled thereafter. Vehicle identification will be supported in conjunction with driver identification in an effort to eliminate fraud and various risk management parameters such as fuel grade and tank capacity checks. The EasyFuel system will provide automatic odometer and/or engine hour outputs in order to assist the government in its efforts to manage fuel consumption.
Oded Bashan, Chairman, & CEO of OTI commented, "The EasyFuel product provides a perfect fit for monitoring and controlling fuel consumption and fleet activity. It provides excellent value to customers and presents a long--term, ongoing, high-margin revenue stream for OTI by providing hardware, software and additional services for each project."
EasyFuel is easy, quick and cost-effective to install and maintain and the solution enables a fast turnaround at the pump. The EasyFuel system has built-in benefits for oil companies, commercial fleet operators, financial institutions and private motorists. The oil companies build loyalty with fleet companies via long-term contracts, as well as with private motorists. The OTI solutions are easily integrated into existing hardware and software systems. The system allows for 24-hour non-attendant sales, as well as greater in-store purchases. Fleet companies eliminate non-authorized fueling and receive comprehensive billing and detailed operating information. Financial institutions benefit from new transaction fees and greater cash flow. Retail customers receive 24-hour, fast, cashless service as well as loyalty program rewards.

The new order is in support of an existing ID project announced last year, which is part of the country's effort to modernize and improve the security of its electronic ID cards. Last year, OTI successfully supplied its end-to-end turnkey solution based on its proprietary state-of-the-art, field-proven eID Magna(TM) platform in support of the nationwide infrastructure setup. The system includes both stationary and mobile stations for data enrollment and card issuance, the creation of a central national registry database, as well as the provision of contactless, highly-secured smart ID cards and a Biometric Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), to detect and prevent double registration attempts by the same ID applicant.
OTI's secured ID solution supports both online and offline communication, thereby allowing every citizen, living in cities and rural areas, to apply for an ID card regardless of the area's communication infrastructure. This user-friendly solution is designed to provide maximum accuracy and security.
"We are proud to be the technology and implementation partner of our governmental client's national ID system," said Oded Bashan, chairman and CEO of OTI. "The level of professionalism and execution capabilities demonstrated by the government has been second to none. Together, we were able to meet the strict implementation timeline, allowing for the continuation of the project."
