NVIDIA is benefiting from the cryptocurrency boom already
Cryptocurrency miners use graphics cards from the likes of NVIDIA to "mine" digital currencies. Cryptocurrency mining-related demand accounted for nearly 5% of NVIDIA's top line three years ago, when cryptocurrency mining was booming. The good news for NVIDIA investors is that the recent surge in cryptocurrency prices has led to renewed demand from miners, especially since the launch of the company's new Ampere cards.
The graphics specialist sold $175 million worth of GPUs (graphics processing units) to miners in the third quarter of fiscal 2021, according to RBC Capital Markets. While that would be just 3.7% of the $4.73 billion in revenue NVIDIA generated during the quarter, mining-related demand is good for the company in a bigger way as demand outstripping supply has led to higher prices.
NVIDIA's latest RTX 30 series graphics cards are in short supply thanks to massive demand, both from gamers and cryptocurrency miners. The cards are reportedly going out of stock as soon as they go on sale. As a result, NVIDIA now says that GPU supply will remain lean through its fiscal first quarter, which ends in April.
NVIDIA also points out that sales of its latest RTX 30 Ampere cards are tracking at twice the rate of the preceding RTX 20 series cards. This combination of incredible demand and short supply has led to a spike in GPU prices.
Big gains ahead....."

All that data has to live somewhere, and that's where these data centers come in. As they've had to build out their infrastructure, NVIDIA and other companies that make chips like that have been real beneficiaries.
Another area that is really interesting long-term, is the autonomous vehicle applications of what NVIDIA's doing. It's a relatively small revenue driver for the business right now. ...
NVIDIA has entered 2021 with solid catalysts in two of its biggest businesses -- video gaming and data center. These two segments produce 88% of NVIDIA's total revenue.
The video gaming business is showing promising signs in the new year, as demand for NVIDIA's latest graphics cards -- the RTX 30 series -- is through the roof. As reported by IGN, NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress recently pointed out that the demand for its gaming GPUs (graphics processing units) is "off the charts" even after a strong holiday season.
The graphics specialist has now warned that the supply of the RTX 30 series will remain tight through the first quarter of 2021, as the company is struggling to catch up to overwhelming demand from gamers and cryptocurrency miners alike. More importantly, the strong demand for NVIDIA's latest gaming graphics cards isn't going to disappear any time soon.
That's because the latest Ampere cards bring about a huge jump in performance over their predecessors at aggressive price points. This gives NVIDIA's huge installed base of old GPU users a solid reason to upgrade. All of this bodes well for the video gaming business, which recorded 37% year-over-year revenue growth in the third quarter of fiscal 2021, generating $2.27 billion in sales for the chipmaker.
Like gaming, NVIDIA's data center business has also been in fine form in recent quarters. The business has generated $4.8 billion in revenue in the first three quarters of fiscal 2021, a jump of 138% over the prior-year period. In fact, the data center business' growth has outpaced the video gaming business, which has recorded a 31% increase in revenue in the first nine months of the fiscal year and generated $5.3 billion in sales......
While NVIDIA trades at almost 90 times trailing earnings,.....NVIDIA's forward P/E ratio of 48 is also on the higher side.....
Viel Glück Allen!
Nvidia and other semiconductor companies were rising Monday, following news of Dialog Semiconductor's DLGNF acquisition by Renesas Electronics RNECY and an ongoing chip shortage.
The increase was driven in part by the announcement that Renesas had agreed to buy Dialog Semiconductor for $6 billion cash.

Coming up next we have gaming chip titan NVIDIA. For non-gamers, NVIDIA is a multinational tech company that designs graphics processing units (GPUs) and systems on a chip (SoCs). Its GPUs are often used in the fields of gaming and cryptocurrency mining. Considering that demands in both these sectors are high now, it’s not surprising why NVDA stock has been trading higher this week. For instance, NVIDIA’s RTX 30 laptop is in high demand for cryptocurrency mining amid Bitcoin’s surge. With the company expecting to report earnings on February 24 after market closes, investors are on the edges of their seats. Another area that is really interesting in the long term could be its investment in autonomous vehicle applications. From its partnership with Nio (NYSE: NIO), many are very optimistic about the company’s potential in the autonomous vehicles space in the long run. Nio has selected NVIDIA’s DRIVE Orin SoC for its upcoming line of EVs which will come with advanced automated driving capabilities.

"According to analysts at Swiss bank UBS, the market for autonomous rideshare vehicles (or robotaxis) will reach at least $2 trillion by 2030. What's more, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) believes the market could reach $7 trillion by 2050. For investors looking to cash in on the autonomous vehicle trend, NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Waymo look like long-term winners.
1. NVIDIA: The leading platform
According to a report by Navigant Research, NVIDIA and Intel's Mobileye are the two front-runners in the market for automated-vehicle computing platforms, though the report calls NVIDIA "the clear leader" in the space. These companies are building the artificial-intelligence (AI) systems that will power self-driving car....
When it comes to AI, NVIDIA's best-in-class GPUs significantly outperform Intel's chips. And NVIDIA's industry-leading solution has helped the company attract dozens of partners, from start-ups to established enterprises. These include automakers Toyota, Audi, Volvo, and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz; mobility service providers like Airbus, Aurora Mobile, and Zoox (owned by Amazon); as well as researchers at prestigious institutions like University of California-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, and MIT.
....In addition to the FTC probe, Alphabet Inc, Qualcomm Inc and Microsoft Corp have complained to U.S. antitrust regulators about the deal, the report added, citing people familiar with the process.Arm Holdings supplies intellectual property to Apple, Qualcomm and a host of others for chips that power nearly all of the world’s smartphones.
Earlier in January, Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority said it would start an investigation into Nvidia’s deal to buy Arm.
