Excellent number for an IPO of Rakuten Bank – but I believe Rakuten should wait and increase the debts to finance mobile, which will be cash flow positive soon

As of the end of June 2022, Rakuten Bank had 12.68 million non-consolidated customer accounts, and its total balance of deposits (non-consolidated) was 8.1 trillion yen. In April 2022, as part of its mid to long-term business plan, Rakuten Bank set targets of 25 million customer accounts and 20 trillion yen in total balance of deposits (non-consolidated) by March 2027. Rakuten Bank applied for listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in July.

Dublin, Sept. 12, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "Ride-hailing and Taxi Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report by Type (Ride-hailing, Taxi), by Distribution Channel, by Region, and Segment Forecasts, 2022-2028" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The global ride-hailing and taxi market size is estimated to reach USD 432.16 billion by 2028 and is expected to expand at a CAGR of 11.7% from 2022 to 2028. The growth of the ride market is significantly driven by the expansion of the key players in the new geographies and increasing consumer ridership owing to convenience and comfort. Consumers' inclination to avoid the large overhead cost of car ownership and its maintenance, coupled with the increasing traffic congestion and lack of parking spaces fuels the global market growth.

63255 Postings, 7267 Tage LibudaFor Open RAN to be successful

    #9133
16.09.22 21:41
For Open RAN to be successful, evidence of effective collaboration is just as important as network performance metrics.

The VMO2 milestone provides just such evidence. NEC as lead SI, Rakuten Symphony (centered on the former Altiostar’s open vRAN), and a number of other vendors – radio units, cloud platform, x86 platform – have been able to deliver a fully-functioning site using open RAN specifications within around 6 months.

The latest evidence that a newly formed ecosystem of vendors can collaborate quickly and effectively should give heart to the Open RAN pioneers and give even the more sceptical pause for thought. More choice is what open RAN fundamentally aims to provide – and that can only work if the choices made can actually collaborate effectively.

For VMO2, there remain many further questions and phases to go through: additional sites, integration into wider operational support systems and processes, further operational proving. Though a modest achievement at one level (Rakuten Mobile has 44,000 macro open RAN sites), VMO2’s first live open RAN site in the UK is nonetheless significant, as much for how it was achieved, as for what has been achieved. We look forward to further progress reports.

Last week (August 30th) saw the announcement of VMO2’s first live Open RAN site in the UK, “in the Northamptonshire region”. Initially, this provides 4G coverage, with 5G to follow “imminently”, according to our sources. This initial site is a full macro site, capable of supporting rural in-fill or dense urban environments. (In the English Midlands, Northamptonshire has a population of around 750,000 people, with county town Northampton home to just over 200,000.)

Rakuten fintech-revenues alone should be valued with $ 11.25 billion – the 1.58.-fold of the $ 7.11 billion market-cap of the complete company today

I believe, that low 2.5-times revenues for the fintech-revenues of Rakuten are appropriate to the situation.

Rakuten’s fintech-revenues in 2022 will be about 650 billion Yen = about $ 4.5 billion – valuend with 2.5-times revenues = $ 11.25 billion.

Rakuten is a large conglomerate of e-commerce, financial, telecom, and consumer service dominating the Japanese online economy. The telecom segment has been a major cash drain and spooked investors out. The strong growth and quality of the core business have been ignored and left the company undervalued. The mobile business is set to turn profitable and this should change the narrative (and valuation multiples) around Rakuten.

Ushering a New Design for Communications Satellites: Q&A with AST SpaceMobile’s Scott Wisniewski

September 14, 2022

By David Bullock

This past weekend, AST SpaceMobile’s BlueWalker 3 communications satellites was deployed in low Earth orbit after a successful launch aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. Parabolic Arc was able to talk Scott Wisniewski, Chief Strategy Officer at AST Mobile, about BlueWalker 3 and the company’s plans for a constellation of broadband satellites that will connect directly with cellular phones worldwide.

What makes the BlueWalker3 (BW3) significant?

Well, it’s a mission that will facilitate our company’s strategy, which is to connect regular phones to satellites directly in low Earth orbit with cellular broadband. And that’s unmodified cell phone 4G/5G… There’s five billion globally and our intent is to connect to them.

Speaking more broadly, I think the mission is pretty important and historic, because once we unfold the array, it will be the largest communications array ever commercially deployed into low Earth orbit. So, it’s 693 sq ft. [64.3 sq m] A large communications array, a large antenna is important in order to connect directly to weak, low-powered phones, the ones that we use for terrestrial usage… So, it’s a pretty important milestone for the development of space and how we are doing it.

Where is your customer base for BW3 technology?

This is a test satellite, so this is to configure the ground infrastructure. But once we start launching our commercial satellites, our go-to market strategy is pretty simple and we target two groups of folks. One, is the [group of people who] work and travel and are going in and out of coverage every day. This can be all around the world where people experience gaps in coverage anywhere there is not terrestrial coverage today.

And the other group of people is folks that don’t have access to cellular or broadband today. There are 3.7 billion people globally that don’t have access to cellular broadband, which is defined as 3G or better. And there is another 450 million people who don’t have access to any cellular infrastructure. So, those are the two big, broad sets of people that we think we’ll be able to service and together collectively they fill in that 5 billion mobile phones that are in use today around the world.

Tell me a little about the investments made for this mission.

So, we invested $85 million directly into the BlueWalker 3 satellite. Most of that was one time R&D. We’ve been at it for about two years, designing and manufacturing the BlueWalker 3 satellite. Over the life of our company, we have raised $600 million, and we’ve made significant investments in our people and growing the company.

Research on Gen Z shopping behaviour and brand preferences by Rakuten Europe and Rakuten Insight Global.

Research shows that offline shopping is increasing in relevance for Gen Z shoppers.

Sustainable shopping is important – but the price, quality, and design are the top 3 priorities for purchases.

Luxembourg, Belfast, September 13 2022 – Gen Z has taken the world by storm – at least the digital world. But what do we know of Gen Z? A term applied by many demographic researchers, and according to Pew Research Center, Generation Z (in short: Gen Z) consists of people born between 1997 and 2012. Gen Z follows Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) and precedes Generation Alpha.

Gen Z is known to be the most racially and ethnically diverse generation yet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, wars, and economic uncertainties following the Financial Crisis of 2009, Gen Z looks into a future more uncertain than previous generations have experienced. According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Gen Z’ers are more socially minded than previous generations and focus on seven key issues: healthcare, mental health, higher education, economic security, civic engagement, race equity, and the environment.

And as true digital natives, who have been exposed to the internet, social networks, and mobile systems since the youngest age, Gen Z has access to many platforms to raise their voices and demand change.

What implications does Gen Z have for companies and brands, building their ad strategy, reaching new customers, or building their platform?

In collaboration with Rakuten Insight Global, Rakuten Europe has recently conducted an online survey among 1,800 respondents aged 16-25 in France, Germany, Spain, Japan, the U.K., and the U.S. to find out about this generation’s shopping preferences and trends.
