4-6 billion bei Block Cave Mining The Future of Large-Scale Underground Copper Mining.

What is the Value Proposition?
• Greater depth of ore bodies (exhaustion of near-surface ores)
• Declining ore grades
• Improving mining technology
Block Caving is:
• Lowest cost underground mining method
• A mass-mining method – matching the scale of the largest opencut mines
• Can be intensely automated (a safer mining method)
UBS 29-Aug-12 An analyst site visit to Rio's Northparkes copper mine, the broker notes progress being made with Block Caving methods may well help the company maintain an advantage in underground mining in the years ahead. Buy call, target and forecasts are maintained.
The broker saw some new underground mining technological developments that it believes will provide the company some long term competitive advantages, while recent discoveries could well support a major expansion.
@bockaufboc

Lassen wir uns überraschern, wo wir uns evtl mal kennen lernen.

THE National Government is now ready to release the first K100 million to the Autonomous Bougainville Government.
This is the first batch of funds from the K500 million the National Government promised to Bougainville specifically for impact projects in the region.
Finance Minister James Marape assured the ABG that the Finance Department was ready to disburse the K100m.
The funds have been sitting with the Department of Finance awaiting resolution of key issues including:
* Whether or not to agree to the PIP process and guidelines for projects on Bougainville;
* Whether the list of 75 projects submitted by the ABG for funding under the K100m is agreeable; and
* Whether the Trust Instruments are sufficient to manage the disbursement of the K100m from the subsidiary Trust Account.
Leaders of the Autonomous Bougainville Government and their national Members of Parliament met for the first time since the formation of the new Government this week.
They discussed critical issues to progress the development of Bougainville.
ABG President John Momis, Vice President Patrick Nisira and Minister for Finance Albert Punghau met with the four Bougainville National MPs Joe Lera, Jimmy Miringtoro, Steven Pirika and Lauta Atoi.
Also present were national Minister for Finance James Marape, Secretary for Finance, Steven Gibson and officials from the Department of National Planning and the Office of Bougainville Affairs.
Chief Secretary to the Government Manasupe Zurenuoc, who mediated on behalf of the Prime Minister, said the meeting was for Bougainville leaders to consult each other and resolve key issues relating to the disbursement of the K100m that was allocated by the National Government to the ABG this year.
Mr Zurenuoc said he was extremely pleased with the outcome of the discussions between the leaders and commended them on behalf of the Prime Minister for their
willingness to talk frankly and resolve issues.
During the discussions, Mr Marape assured the ABG that the Finance Department is ready to disburse the K100m. President Momis reminded the meeting of the Bougainville Peace Agreement and said that the K100m was desperately needed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bougainville.
Mr Miringtoro said that high impact projects should be the focus of the K100m and urged the Department of National Planning to work
closely with the people of Bougainville.
Mr Pirika also called for more transparency and accountability of funds released to the Bougainville administration.
Speaking on behalf of the three National MPs, Governor Joe Lera called for quick disbursement of the K100m while North Bougainville MP Lauta Atoi demanded a more inclusive approach in project discussions to avoid duplication and unnecessary spending.
Mr Zurenuoc said there was strong support for a more participatory and consultative approach to engaging both national and ABG leaders in the development and peace-building process on Bougainville.
With that understanding, the leaders accepted and agreed to:
* Use the PIP process and guidelines for projects on Bougainville. Director (NCOBA) will represent Bougainville’s four national MPs on the Projects Steering Committee and report to them regularly on the outcomes of each committee meeting;
* Abide by the project listing as contained in the 2012 Development Budget; and
* Utilise the Trust arrangements already established to manage the disbursement of the K100m.
“The Bougainville people can be assured that their leaders are
united and firm on ensuring that services are delivered,” Mr Zurenuoc said.

PNG must pay for Golpu HARMONY Gold Mining Company Limited, South Africa's third-largest gold producer says that Papua New Guinea will have to pay if it wants a stake in the company’s promising Golpu project in the Pacific country. Reuters reports that Harmony is staking its future on the $ US4.8 billion project it is developing with Australian group Newcrest Mining. PNG has the right to a 30 per cent stake in mining operations, but Harmony Chief Executive Graham Briggs said if the Government exercised this option it would include development costs already forked out. “This is not a free carry; it will be full participation if the Government gets involved. Assuming they would take 30 per cent, they would have to pay 30 per cent of the historical costs,” Briggs told analysts on a conference call. The gold and copper project's prefeasibility study estimates an initial mine life of 26 years with annual production of 490,000oz of gold and 290,000t of copper. The aim is to start production in 2019. Briggs said it was difficult to say whether the Government was in a position to pay for the stake, but discussions with ministers suggested that they saw the project as generating significant growth for the region. “This is certainly a game-changer in Papua New Guinea it could add considerable amounts to the GDP and there are lots of opportunities for the Government to leverage off this,” he added. Results of the prefeasibility study peg the cost of establishing a copper-gold development at around $US4.8 billion, which will be shared evenly by Harmony and Newcrest. Chief financial officer Frank Abbott said the firm would consider debt or bonds to top up its capital expenditure needs as the production of its Papua New Guinea operations got nearer. “We don't see the need for additional funding until 2017, and then it will depend on the gold price,” Abbott pointed out. He indicated that if the gold price remained in the $US1600/oz range, the company would need to raise R4 billion, but if it dipped to $US1400/oz it would require almost R7 billion. Spot gold is currently fetching about $1665. The project is a game-changer for Harmony as it diversifies production away from high-cost and politically-risky South Africa, where labour violence in the platinum belt has killed 44 people this month. The company currently gets 90 per cent of its output from South Africa and aims to lift production to 1.7Moz by 2016 from a target 1.3Moz in 2013.
am besten finde ich die Aussage:
The project is a game-changer for Harmony as it diversifies production away from high-cost and politically-risky South Africa, where labour violence in the platinum belt has killed 44 people this month.
