Papua New Guinea has lifted a ban on Australians travelling to Bougainville, but says it still disapproves of a diplomatic mission being built in the autonomous region.
PNG foreign minister Rimbink Pato instituted the ban in mid-May, after describing the mission as "outrageous" when it was announced as part of Australian budget measures.
The decision to lift the ban was made after a meeting between Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in Japan last week.
"Prime Minister O'Neill reaffirmed Papua New Guinea's position that the government does not approve of the establishment of an Australian diplomatic mission on Bougainville," Mr Pato said in a statement.
"While the manner in which the proposal was announced was unfortunate, we have discussed the issue with our Australian colleagues. We recognise that there was a serious lapse in communication and we can now move on from this issue."
The ban will be lifted on Monday, he said.
He said Ms Bishop expressed regret for the miscommunication about the mission in a letter to Mr O'Neill.
Comment has been sought from the Department of Foreign Affairs
verschiebt sich das ganze etwas in Richtung Kauona und Toroama.

Absolute Majority
For a candidate to win under Limited Preferential Voting (LPV) they are required to receive half of the total formal vote, plus one (50% + 1). This is called the absolute majority.
Example
This means that if there are 100 voters, a candidate needs 51 votes to win. It is unlikely, however that there are only 100 voters. As such there is a simple calculation to determine how many votes form the absolute majority:
The absolute majority can be found by dividing the total formal votes received by two and then add one:
‘Absolute Majority = [Total Formal Votes/2] + 1.’
After count 88
Mr Momis collecting 1548 votes, which now brings his total to 36, 927 votes.
Sam Kauona collected 121 votes, bringing his total to 11, 100 votes.
Ismael Toroama collected 31 votes, and is now on 8779 votes.
Sam Akoitai collected 41 votes and is now on 7835 votes.
Nick F. Peniai received 15 votes, with his total now on 3708 votes.
Simon Dumarinu got 17 votes, bringing his tally to 3524 votes.
Reuben Siara received 41 votes and is now on 2734 votes.
Justin Pokata Kira collected 5 votes and is now on 1984 votes.
Peter Nerau received 137 votes bringing his total to 821 votes.
Abgegebene gültige Stimmen: 82.483
Zur absoluten Mehrheit erforderlich: 82.483/2+1 = 41.243
John Mommis im Count 91: 41.293
Das wäre aktuell die absolute Mehrheit im 1. Wahlgang!!!
Ich drücke die Daumen für die restlichen Counts.
Vielleicht klappt es ja gleich im ersten Wahlgang.
Das wäre doch ein deutliches Signal.
Bzw. weiß jemand wann das Ergebnis verkündet wird ?
danke
So far Mr. Momis has totally 44542 votes (50,49%, 875 votes more than the 8 others)
The next 8 candidates have totally 43667 votes.
