During the Nov. 2 of the Pike County Commissioners meeting, Roger Maltby, Pike County EMA Coordinator, talked about the changes that will come for the emergency notification system.
Cooper Notifications is the company where the notification system is coming from. Maltby said they will be using Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN). The website, www.cooperindustries.com, says that RSAN “allows you to send alerts and potentially life-saving instructions to unlimited communication devices simultaneously and from a single web page.”
It will be implemented with the AlertPA system, which is currently in the works to come to Pike County. Other counties in the state will also be using RSAN.
“It will be designed for people to self-register,” says Maltby. “The public will be able to access www.pike.alertpa.org and decide what information they want to receive, when they want to receive it, and what method they want the information from.”
Maltby says this will come as no cost to the taxpayers. There will be a variety of information available for things such as traffic, weather, roads, etc. Anything relating to emergencies will be available.
“The system is already in operation in North Hampton county,” says Maltby. “They were the guinea pigs and we will get information from them for ideas of making it work in others.” He says the bugs just need to be worked out.
There is no limit with technology, so there are many ways to get the information out, he added. The information will be able to be accessed one way or another.
