...was noch übrig bleibt vom Enthusiasmus einiger Anleger, wie er im Beitrag einer Stonegate-Anlegerin auf "stockhouse" vor zwei Monaten anklang:

Chuckles2  |  3/9/2011 2:45:39 PM

"Helllo... this is awesome I spoke to Ian McDonald, our Co-CEO yesterday while at PDAC. My goodness, is this stock in for a ride.

Anyways it sounds like the lower seam of the Idaho deposit is so high in phosphate and low in impurities that they will be able to just throw it in trucks and sell it raw. This is the lowest cost scenario imaginable, especially since North American fertilizer producers currently import Phosphate from Morocco to the tune a a million tons per year, by ship. The profit will be sick. Stonegate is going to be a low cost startup cash cow. They have all the money they need for some time, don't expect any further dilution for a while. Likely a NI 43-101 around end of June, then she'll blow. Who knows if this is dead money till then or the sp will start up again, but for me, at these prices, I'm adding.

Remember, this is Phosphate, not Potash. Needed for fertilizer, there's less of it and 75% is produced in Morocco.

Chuckles Doo"

...
Kevin Bambrough:  With that in mind, we want to make sure we maintain at least a reasonable valuation relative to our assets. Management has committed and demonstrated that we will buy back our stock when it trades at what we believe is an unreasonable discount to the market. So, that really helps to mitigate the risk. We're very aware of the fact that closed-end type vehicles typically trade at a discount because what they do could be replicated fairly easily. You can look at the contents of a mutual fund or a closed-end fund and say, "Well, I could go buy those stocks." But the difference here is that we create businesses in unique sectors with unique opportunities well ahead of when they're properly valued.

TER: Give me an example of that.

KB: We've gotten some significant gains that have come from what initially appear to be very minor investments or very little capital being committed. For example, Stonegate Agricom Ltd. (TSX:ST). In that case, we started with an option agreement totaling $53,000 that turned into a mark-to-market gain of nearly $100 million over a couple of years. And we have made much larger investments, buying things like PBS Coals Limited (LSE:SVST) or Orion Oil & Gas Corporation (TSX:OIP) that were very cheap relative to the public market comparables.

TER: You wanted to get into the fertilizer business with Stonegate because it's a play on agriculture (Ag), a sector on which you're bullish. But doesn't a mining operation add risk to what you already believe is a relatively safe way of playing agriculture?

KB: Let me first say I agree that resource exploration has got to be one of the riskiest sectors in which to be involved. Typically, the odds are insurmountable but Stonegate is not a grassroots exploration. Both of Stonegate's properties had proven historical merit; and our agreement was structured in very low-risk terms, which would minimize any material damage to our assets or the NAV of our company. We approached the transaction, got involved and advanced the asset to the point of going public.

We started with a small investment of $53,000, which was an option agreement that we rolled into a private company, and we ended up with 80% of that company. We were in a very, very comfortable position as far as the money that we had to put in. Stonegate went public with a $50 million offering and, post-IPO, we retained about 54% of the company. We put $12 million into that IPO, which basically gave us a claim on 54% of $50M through our shareholdings. So, there was very little risk.

Auszug:

Garrett Baldwin: In your book, education is a core theme. You described education as the greatest influence on your life. And when you went to Oxford last year, you told students to forget about Wall Street and to go into mining and farming. What’s happened in the last 20 to 30 years that’s driving this sentiment?

Jim Rogers: Over the last 25 or 30 years, agriculture’s been a horrible way to make money throughout the world. As a result, we have virtually no farmers.

According to the U.S. government, the average age of farmers in America is 58 years old. In 10 years, they’re going to be 68 years old… if they’re still alive. If you get out the Department of Education numbers for the past 50 years, you’ll see a dramatic decline in the number of students studying agriculture, mining and petroleum engineering. All those things that you need in order to open mines, find oil, or produce wheat.

On the other hand, you find staggering increases in the number of people studying finance, business and MBAs. We don’t have any new farmers. Second of all, the [experts] are pretty old and are going to be going out of business. It’s a huge mess we have that’s developing in the world, and you’re going to see more and more shortages develop. We already have very low inventories on a historic basis for agricultural products. And even if we have a great local crop this year or next, so what? It’s going to be consumed very quickly because the inventory levels are already so low.

Garrett Baldwin: We’re not expecting our readers to begin toiling the earth… but what can they do to take part in this commodities boom?

Jim Rogers: You can buy farmland. You can buy agricultural products. You can buy stocks that will benefit if you’re a good stock picker. You can invest in countries that will benefit. Canada is going to have a better economy than the United States. Australia is going to have a better economy than Belgium.

If you don’t want to become a farmer, buy a mine or buy a farm, there are other ways to do it. You can buy currencies. The Canadian dollar is going to continue to do better than the U.S. dollar.

There are many ways to participate.
