Allana Potash (CVE:AAA) announced Wednesday that it has intersected strong potash mineralization in an area not previously drilled, at its Dallol project in Ethiopia.
Hole Dk-11-20, located in the eastern portion of Allana's property, returned 23.7% KCI, or potash, over 6.56 metres from the Kainitite Zone. Mineralization was intersected from 472.34 metres to 478.90 metres below surface.
"The presence of strong potash mineralization in the eastern part of the property suggests strong continuity of the potash horizon and the deposit remains open in all directions," the company said in a statement.
There has been no previous drilling in the 18 square kilometre area, with no resource yet been calculated, and Allana believes there is significant potential here for additional resources due to the consistent nature of the Kainite Zone. Kainitite, as well as sylvinite, are two important ores for the production of potash.
"Allana is extremely encouraged by the zone of kainitite intersected in Hole 20 in a region of the property that has been unexplored to date," said president and CEO, Farhad Abasov.
"This area has experienced no previous drilling and the potash intersection validates our interpretations on the strong continuity of the potash throughout the southern part of the basin."
Following road construction to allow further access to the eastern boundary of the property, additional drilling is planned to determine if a large, shallow potash resource would be amenable to open pit mining. Plans for a feasibility study for the project are underway, with work expected to start in a few weeks, the company said.
Meanwhile, exploration drilling is continuing in the central western part of the as part of the infill drilling program designed to add resources and increase confidence in current resources.
The Dallol project is located in the northeastern region of Allana Potash's Danakil Depression in Ethiopia. Totaling approximately 150 square kilometres, the project is about 100 kilometres from the Red Sea coast, and 600 kilometres from the deep water port in Djibouti.
An updated NI 43-101 compliant resource report in late June estimated total measured and indicated resources of 673 million tonnes, with an average grade of 18.65% potash, or KCI, (the composite grade of all four potash-bearing beds including sylvinite, upper and lower carnallite and kainitite). Inferred mineral resources now stand at 596 million tonnes with an average grade of 19.96% KCI.

Stauffer was previously president of the Potash and Phosphate Institute of Canada.
“The appointment of an independent chairperson comes at a time when Allana is applying to graduate to the Toronto Stock Exchange,” Allana CEO Farhad Abasov said in a statement.
“The appointment is an important step to achieving a more independent operation, while it continues to move the project to the feasibility study and advance the Dallol project towards production.”
The study is set to reach conclusion around July or August next year, and Allana was hoping to produce around one-million tons yearly of potash by late 2014.

Allana Potash Corp (CVE:AAA) announced Wednesday it has appointed former president of the Potash and Phosphate Institute of Canada, Dr. Mark D. Stauffer, to the position of independent chairman of its board.
Having worked in research, education, chemical production and sales, Stauffer has experience in both the private and public sectors.
He has also acted as vice president of international programs at the Potash and Phosphate Institute, now known as the International Plant Nutrition Institute, and has lectured on the role of potash and phosphate in increasing food production and the role of balanced fertilizer practices in maximizing crop yield and income opportunities for the farming community.
"The appointment of an independent Chairman comes at a time when Allana is applying to graduate to the Toronto Stock Exchange," explains president and CEO, Farhad Abasov.
"Mark's advice and guidance to Allana's management in our interactions with various strategic partners, including large fertilizer companies, has been critical.
"The company feels that the appointment is an important step to achieving a more independent operation, while it continues to move the project to the Feasibility Study and advance the Dallol Project towards production."
Indeed, the Dallol project in Ethiopia is quickly progressing. Earlier this month, Allana reported it intersected 24.02% KCI, or potash, over 7.02 metres from Hole 23 in the Kainitite zone.
The presence of strong potash mineralization in Hole 23 suggests strong continuity of the potash horizon across the southern basin, and the deposit remains open in all directions.
There has been no previous drilling in the area and no resource has been calculated as yet in this region, the company said.
Meanwhile, exploration drilling is continuing in the central western part of the property, as part of the infill drilling program designed to add resources and increase confidence in current resources.
On the more junior TSX Venture Exchange, Allana's stock rose 0.76% as of 3:32 pm EDT today, to trade at $1.32 per share.

The study, to be taken on by Ercosplan, which completed an update of the NI 43-101 compliant resources on the property in June, will investigate the potential to extract potash through open pit mining, as well as solution mining and solar evaporation.
The feasibility study is due to be completed in the second half of 2012. Ercosplan is a specialist consulting and engineering group whose core activities include project management in all aspects of the extraction and processing of industrial potash and mineral salts.
"We expect that by the end of 2011, technical and economic parameters of open pit and solution mining methods will have been examined so that the management can determine what is the optimal mining method at the initial production stage," said Allana president and CEO, Farhad Abasov.
"Once the mining method is determined the rest of the feasibility study will focus on the details based on that method.
"This is an important milestone for Allana since this timely start of the feasibility study will allow us to stay on track with our development plans. We look forward to working with ERCOSPLAN as we move forward to production and continue advancing our strategic talks with large fertilizer organizations."
