WALNUT, Calif., March 26, 2013
WALNUT, Calif., March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) today announced that the VIASPACE Board of Directors, including Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe; CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen and Angelina Galiteva have all agreed to extend the lock-up of their VIASPACE common stock shares for an additional 90 days, through June 30, 2013. Moreover, VIASPACE CFO, Mr. Stephen Muzi; Director of Communications, Dr. Jan Vandersande and Director of Social Media Outreach, Ms. Jaclyn Kenner, have also agreed to lock-up their VSPC common shares through June 30, 2013. In total, this extension of the lock-up of insider selling represents approximately 240,000,000 common shares that will not be sold during this extended lock-up period.
Dr. Schewe commented, "The VIASPACE Board and Management have been extremely pleased with the performance of VIASPACE since becoming a free-standing company on October 1, 2012. At that time, we announced a 6-month lock-up of insider share sales. Given the pace of our corporate progress and the momentum that we have achieved, we felt it important to continue the lock-up for another 90 days as we work hard to continue to increase the scope of our general shareholder base of investors. In addition, Dr. Kukkonen has two significant foreign trips to meet with clients in April and we are looking forward to sharing the news of those trips and providing exciting updates on existing projects in the near future."

WALNUT Calif., April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) today announced that CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen met with Grain Hill CEO and Board President, Amilcar Ybarra-Rojas and his team in Nicaragua last week. VIASPACE had previously entered into a contract with Grain Hill subsidiary and is growing Giant King Grass on land owned by them. The Giant King Grass is growing well in Nicaragua, and VIASPACE and AGRICORP have agreed to form a partnership to build a 12 MW biomass power plant fueled by Giant King Grass.
(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130417/NE96109)
AGRICORP is a subsidiary of Grain Hill which is a diversified agro-industrial business group in the following food related businesses: agriculture-mainly growing rice, food processing, mainly rice milling, and distribution of its own 12 brands of rice, and value added food products, and third-party brands. It has revenues of $300 million per year with operations in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El Salvador. Grain Hill/AGRICORP is the largest rice company in Nicaragua with 65% market share.
Giant King Grass is being grown on part of a 10,000 acre AGRICORP farm near Lake Nicaragua. 6,000 acres of the farm are currently cultivated with rice and irrigated with water from Lake Nicaragua. An AGRICORP rice mill is co-located on the farm which would also be the site of the power plant. The rice mill produces rice husk as waste which would also be used as a small portion of the biomass fuel for the power plant.
VIASPACE and AGRICORP are satisfied that the Giant King Grass grows well on the AGRICORP plantation, and plan to expand the nursery in May to support the 2100 acre Giant King Grass plantation needed to fully fuel the 12 MW power plant.
VIASPACE and AGRICORP plan to sign an agreement that formalizes the partnership and to begin development of the power plant project immediately. VIASPACE expects to return to Nicaragua shortly to kick off the partnership and to join AGRICORP in meetings with electricity customers, the Nicaragua grid company, EPC contractors, banks, and with Nicaraguan government officials
VIASPACE CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen reported, "This is a very exciting partnership. VIASPACE will take the lead in project development, Giant King Grass, power plant technology selection, and financial modeling. AGRICORP will lead the interface with the power customer, grid connection, plantation operations and plant permitting. The companies will work closely together and expect to form a special purpose company for the power plant."
Grain Hill CEO and Board President, Amilcar Ybarra-Rojas stated, "We believe that Giant King Grass has an important role to play in Nicaragua. The new, highly efficient 12 MW power plant will provide clean and steady base power for the country in contrast to intermittent power from wind and solar. It will efficiently use Nicaragua's natural resources of land, warm weather and water to produce reliable green electricity for our people and industrial development. It will also provide jobs for farmers and power plant workers. Giant King Grass as a dedicated energy crop can also complement sugarcane bagasse as a fuel for existing power plants connected to sugar mills to extend their season and produce more electricity. I believe that this project will add considerable value to our company that has a mandate for agricultural innovation and sustainability."

WALNUT, Calif., April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (VSPC) today provided an update on the Tibbar Energy 7 MW anaerobic digestion power plant project on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. As reported by the St. Croix Source on April 19, 2013, Mr. Hugo Hodge, executive director of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA), stated that the authority was nearing a purchase agreement with Tibbar Energy, a proposed biomass electricity company on St. Croix. Hodge said that, in a few years, St. Croix will have 10 MW of electricity coming from industrial solar, 5 MW from net metering and 7 MW from Tibbar, for a total of 22 MW being produced by alternative sources. He estimated that at peak consumption, the St. Croix grid only needed 45 MW. That means the WAPA power plant would only need to supply an additional 23 MW.
Tibbar is continuing to plant its Giant King™ Grass nurseries, and plans to create a 1000+ acre plantation to fuel the 7 MW anaerobic digestion power plant. It is testing irrigation options and large scale planting procedures. "We have started to develop an impressive farming operation in preparation of our finalized power purchase agreement (PPA)" said Tibbar CEO Tania Tomyn. "We have purchased tractors and additional equipment. We are proud of our new farm staff and they are integral to the progress so far."
Tomyn continued, "As WAPA stated in the St. Croix Source article, there is a lot of work that goes into balancing Tibbar's base load power with WAPA's. Tibbar will be unlike intermittent wind and solar as we will produce continuous dispatchable power 24/7. Our computer system will be tied to WAPA's and will use the latest technology to efficiently work together."
Tibbar is also continuing its public education and awareness program on a variety of levels. For example, on April 17th and 18th, Tibbar sponsored and presented at the St. Croix Earth Day Eco-Fair. According to Tibbar CEO Tania Tomyn and Farm Manager Bob Peets, "We educated hundreds of children from dozens of St. Croix schools about renewable energy. Tibbar was the major sponsor and we had a fantastic turn out teaching children about Giant King Grass and why bio-energy crops are part of our future."
VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, commented, "Giant King Grass is growing incredibly well in St. Croix and our partnership with Tibbar Energy is progressing nicely. The planned 7 MW anaerobic digestion power plant using Giant King Grass to create continuous, eco-friendly, carbon neutral, green electricity on St. Croix is already demonstrating intangible benefits of educating children about the merits of renewable green energy and has attracted tourists interested in green energy. We believe that using Giant King Grass as a continuously renewable biomass/bioenergy platform is the perfect green solution for the energy needs of tropical island nations and our partnership with Tibbar Energy can prove this concept on St. Croix in the very near future. This project paves the way for other island economies to model similar green electricity projects using Giant King Grass. Every day at VIASPACE, we grow more excited about our future corporate role and place in the evolution of economically viable and successful green energy production."

Giant King Grass to Biogas Electricity Paper Presented at International Biomass Conference
Tibbar Energy Project on St. Croix Cited as an Example, VIASPACE Chairman Comments and Gives Update
WALNUT, Calif., May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- VIASPACE Inc. (OTCQB: VSPC) and Renew Energy of Svendborg, Denmark presented a paper entitled "Giant King Grass to Biogas" at the International Biomass Conference held in Minneapolis Minnesota in April. The conference is the largest biomass event in North America. Mr. Morten Jacobsen of Renew Energy made the presentation which is available on the VIASPACE website at www.VIASPACE.com, and a narrated version is available at https://vimeo.com/63390267. Renew Energy is a Danish engineering services company specializing in biogas plants and bio refineries integrated with ethanol plants, distilleries and other industrial plants. Mr. Jacobsen stated that "the presentation went very well and there was a good response from the audience."
Renew Energy is providing engineering support for the Tibbar Energy 7 MW anaerobic digestion power plant project on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, which will be fueled by Giant King Grass. The presentation describes the overall biogas system and uses the St. Croix, Tibbar Energy/VIASPACE project as an example. Renew Energy and VIASPACE are now working together to develop and support biogas projects fueled by Giant King Grass.
VIASPACE Chairman, Dr. Kevin Schewe, commented: "Our relationship with Renew Energy and the Tibbar Energy 7MW anaerobic digestion power plant fueled by our proprietary Giant King Grass on St. Croix are gaining global attention and we are grateful to Mr. Jacobsen for the excellent presentation that he recently made at the International Biomass Conference and Expo in Minneapolis. The Giant King Grass fueled power plant on St. Croix will be a superb, renewable, green energy model that can be replicated on any tropical island to provide electricity 24 hours per day. We are excited to be leading the way in that significant and important market segment."
Dr. Schewe continued, "Over the next several weeks, we will be announcing our progress in Nicaragua with Grain Hill/Agricorp, a project in Southeast Asia, and updates regarding our ongoing project in South Africa and our status with Giant King Grass in Hawaii. I have recently spoken to our Director of Communications, Dr. Jan Vandersande, and to several VIASPACE shareholders regarding questions about the Company's status of current and future revenues. My answers are consistent. We became a stand-alone Company effective October 1, 2012, and our current revenues come from initial project development of Giant King Grass test plots in the various countries of our customers. Our future revenues will come from our recurring licensing fees as Giant King Grass is continually harvested at our project sites and used in actual applications (EG: Tibbar Energy/St. Croix) as well as from the sale of electricity in projects that we expect to have an equity interest in the power plant (EG: Agricorp/Nicaragua). Our business model is structured to create significant and recurring green energy revenues as a global company and generate profits for our shareholders."
