Shanghai, June 4 (Gasgoo.com) BMW AG, the world's biggest luxury car producer, has recently unveiled two modified vehicle models of its 3 Series in Shanghai to help boost its sales growth in the Chinese auto market, Shanghai Daily reported.
Of the two modified BMW 3 series models, the first of their kind, one is laced with Swarovski crystals, and the other one has luxury sport features. They hit the showroom at the Shanghai Baozen Zhonghuan Automobile Sales and Service Co, an authorized BMW dealer in Shanghai.
BMW Brilliance, the German carmaker's Chinese joint venture with local partner Brilliance China, will start producing the elongated version of BMW 3 Series and the BMW X1 model in the venture's second plant in northeast China's Shenyang city in 2012.
The second plant, whose construction was started earlier this week and will be completed by 2012, will help the joint venture more than double its annual production to 100,000 vehicles and the company's capacity may eventually be tripled.
In the first four months this year, BMW's group sales in China totaled 46,619 cars, up from 22,369 of a year earlier. The flagship 7-Series sedan, the X5 and X6 SUVs saw strong market demand in China.
China is overtaking the UK as BMW's third largest market (after Germany and the U.S.). BMW plans to sell over 100,000 cars in China this year, up from 90,536 in 2009."

Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) German luxury car maker BMW AG recently said that its vehicle sales in China last month more than doubled from a year earlier to nearly 14,000 units, media reported.
The world's largest car maker sold 13,998 BMW and MINI cars in China in May, up from 6,752 in May 2009. In the first four months of the year, BMW's China sales came to a total of 60,617 cars, up from 29,121 of a year earlier.

China steals the show again! This time, the Asian superpower takes over BMW’s incredible one millionth X5. Though all credits for gaining such a height in SUV production go to the staff of Spartanburg, South Carolina, the illustrious piece will grace the roads of China!
After first appearing in late 1999 as 2000 X5, the SUV from BMW has achieved a milestone by producing the one millionth model this week within a span of 11 years, says an auto expert. X5 is a name that has helped people experience a SUV in a different way. In the light of its extended utility and on-road capability, X5 remains a front-runner in the U.S. SUV car segment.
If you are all agog to know more about the one millionth X5 model that made the Spartanburg plant proud, let me tell you the magic-model is a Black Sapphire 2011 model year BMW X5. It will be shipped to a consumer in China. With Drive 35i, the model will definitely be able to uphold the Chinese dragon-spirit, says an auto journalist.
BMW X5 comes with Cinnamon Brown Nevada leather interior trim. Over 120 markets all over the world dnow order the X5 – bulk of which is supplied from the famed Spartanburg plant. BMW is the first European auto-manufacturer that started production in the U.S. in 1994 and now its cars are exported all over the world.
Emphasizing the role played by the Spartanburg plant in helping popularize the BMW brand image, a press release on the release of the one millionth X5 said, “The development of the BMW Spartanburg plant is also closely linked with the success story of the BMW X5. The location, which has existed for 15 years now, has become the most crucial centre of expertise for BMW X models within the BMW Group’s global production network. Built in Spartanburg, the BMW X5 is now exported to more than 120 countries, with the BMW X6 also being produced there for export to the entire global market. Before the end of this year, production of the latest BMW X3 generation will commence at this location.”"

Shanghai, June 12 (Gasgoo.com) German luxury car maker BMW and its Chinese venture partner Brilliance Auto have started construction of a new plant, which will begin to produce a long wheelbase version of the BMW 3-series sedan in 2012, media reported.
The stretched BMW 3-Series, which is set to rival the very popular Audi A4L, will be built at BMW Brilliance's second factory in the Shenyang economic zone in northeastern China, where the joint venture is based. Its existing plant there will also be expanded at the same time.
Brilliance Chairman Qi Yumin recently said the new factory under construction will start operation in 2012, with an annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles. In addition to the long-wheelbase BMW 3-Series, the new plant will also produce the BMW X1.
The second factory will raise BMW's China production capacity up to 300,000 cars, with as much as 60% of the parts locally sourced. There are also reports that BMW Brilliance will open a Mini factory in China.
BMW plans to sell over 100,000 cars in China this year, up from 90,536 in 2009. In the first five months of this year, BMW's China sales came to a total of 60,617 cars, up from 29,121 of a year earlier.

Workers at Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s dealership in the northeast Chinese city of Dalian went on strike to protest “several hundreds of thousands yuan” of unpaid bonuses, the 21st Century Business Herald reported.
No one was available for immediate comment when calls were placed to BMW in Germany. Calls to the automaker’s service center in China and the dealership, Dalian Yanbao Automobile, went unanswered."

Shanghai, June 24 (Gasgoo.com) German luxury car maker BMW AG expects vehicle sales to rise by a "strong single-digit" percentage this year to more than 1 million units, as demand booms in China and the U.S. recovers quickly, Dow Jones reported yesterday, citing BMW's sales chief Ian Robertson.
Robertson reiterated that China is expected to overtake the U.K. as the firm's third-largest market behind Germany and the United States in 2010, and this is poised to bolster profit margins as China is a key market for the lucrative BMW 7-series flagship sedan.
"The U.S. is coming back more strongly than expected," Robertson said on the sidelines of the Automotive News Europe conference being held in the Basque city of Bilbao in northern Spain, adding BMW's global sales momentum of recent months continued in June.
BMW still expects to remain the world's best-selling luxury car maker by sales this year ahead of its major rivals Audi AG and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz. In the first five months, sales rose 13% to 552,864 vehicles from 487,914 of a year earlier.
In the first five months of the year, BMW's China sales came to a total of 60,617 cars, up from 29,121 sold in the same period of last year. Sales in May more than doubled from a year earlier to nearly 14,000 units.
BMW's Chinese venture, BMW Brilliance, is building a second plant and will more than double its annual production to 300,000 vehicles in 2012. Reportedly, BMW will open a Mini factory in China."
