Google has reported that 70 percent of mobile searchers have called a business directly from search results. BIA/Kelsey estimates inbound phone calls from mobile search will grow from roughly 40 billion this year to 70 billion in 2016.
Yet despite these trends, many marketers aren’t keeping up with consumer’s changing call habits.
In a new survey of 132 search marketers conducted by call marketing automation firm, Invoca, just 36 percent of respondents said they are using call extensions or click-to-call ads in their search campaigns.
Maybe phone calls aren’t an important part of the other 64 percent of marketers’ sales strategies? It doesn’t appear that way: 63 percent of those surveyed said that phone leads are as valuable or more valuable than web conversions.
Then there are the sizable number of marketers which are still in the dark about the value of their call conversions and search’s impact on driving calls.
Over half (54 percent) of respondents said they don’t track when search campaigns convert offline from phone calls. Nearly 1 in 5 said they didn’t know how the value of inbound-call conversions compares to web conversions. Web conversions were considered more valuable than phone calls conversions by just 17 percent of respondents.

Generate more income by helping connect mobile consumers with the businesses and products they’re searching for. Local Corp's Pay Per Call advertising solution makes it easier for your visitors to contact that business with a simple tap. This convenient shortcut speeds the path to purchase for them and accelerates the revenue stream for you. The quicker they call the business, the faster (and more often) you get paid.
"One of the best ways that you can increase your volume of leads, much more qualified leads, is to work with a vendor that provides pay per call services for lead generation. This is when a vendor will sell you leads; however, rather than just handing over the information to you so you can follow up with the potential customer, the lead is given to you on the phone, where you can actually speak with a lead that is on the phone, interested in what you have to offer.
In most cases, the lead that you will speak with is much further into the actual sales cycle when you invest in pay per call leads. The person on the phone will want to actually speak with a real person, instead of having to fill out a form on the web in order to receive a white paper or other item. This is really dependent on the product or service that is being offered to get the lead to talk with you. As a note, it is important that you understand the way in which the vendor is promoting the lead so you can ensure that the messaging is completely congruent with your company and it meets your guidelines."

Local Corporation Granted U.S. Mobile Pay-Per-Call Patent
Third Enhanced Directory Assistance Patent Focuses on Mobile Implementations
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 6, 2013-- Local Corporation , a leading online local media company, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company patent number 8,359,049, which covers a mobile, pay-per-call Enhanced Directory Assistance method and/or system. This is the company’s third issued Enhanced Directory Assistance (EDA)-related patent that expands its reach into this high-growth area.
Issued on Jan. 22, 2013, the patent describes an Enhanced Directory Assistance method and/or system that uses wireless messaging protocols to receive keyword search data associated with a directory service request and matches it with a relevant advertiser associated with the keyword search. As part of the method, the requester is sent the directory listing for the advertiser and a callback number. Based on the second call to the callback number, it is determined that the directory listing was selected by the requester. This patent extends the company’s family of Enhanced Directory Assistance patents into wireless messaging systems, with potential uses extended to a host of potential mobile applications, such as the company’s Local.com mobile app, which was recently named as a finalist for the 2013 Appy Awards in the Search Tools category.
“We are pleased to add to our portfolio of intellectual property with this important mobile-focused enhanced directory assistance patent. With the mobile ad industry continuing to show strong growth, we believe this latest patent positions us well for leadership in this sector as we continue to build out and expand our mobile products. We look forward to leveraging this patent to monetize the mobile advertising market going forward.”

Mobile technology and the pay-per-call industry
Another reason for growth in the pay-per-call industry is the advent of mobile click-to-call. Never has it been easier for potential customers to be connected with sales representatives by phone. Click-to-call is driving a very large number of high quality leads to businesses.
"One of the best ways that you can increase your volume of leads, much more qualified leads, is to work with a vendor that provides pay per call services for lead generation. Local Corporation Launches Mobile Pay-Per-Call Lead Generation Network
Pay-Per-Call Ad Spending Projected to Reach $8.1 Billion by 2018
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2013-- Local Corporation (NASDAQ: LOCM), a leading online local media company, today announced that it has launched a mobile pay-per-call lead generation network.
The new network connects online and on-the-go consumers searching for local businesses and services in specific categories with relevant advertisers who provide those services via pay-per-call ads. Based on the valuable pay-per-call ad model, the network provides advertisers with a new channel to generate quality consumer leads in local markets and convert them to customers via mobile.
The network generates leads for top auto insurance, home security and home service providers. The company plans to expand the network to additional verticals, including education and consumer finance.
A recent forecast commissioned by Local Corporation and conducted by Borrell Associates, estimates that online pay-per-call ad spending will grow from $1.7 billion in 2013 to $8.1 billion by 2018. The forecast also estimates that use of pay-per-call advertising among U.S. businesses that market online is projected to more than double by 2018.
“Advertisers are continually looking for new ways to harness consumer demand for their products and services. The mobile pay-per-call lead generation ad model allows them to reach these consumers and convert them into customers,.”
Local Corporation has been issued five patents related to pay-per-call advertising solutions, including U.S. patent number 8,359,049, which is directed to various aspects of mobile, pay-per-call directory assistance and advertising systems and/or methods.

"Laut der Expertenbefragung kann zwar von einem anhaltend starken Wachstum des gesamten digitalen Werbemarktes in 2015 ausgegangen werden, jedoch sind gravierende inhaltliche und den Digitalmix betreffende Veränderungen zu erwarten."
Und noch ein Additional von mir: "Die Local Corp direkt entgegenlaufen."
"Whereas traditional pay-per-call systems (such as 411) required a customer to pay to access directory listings, the service is now transitioning to an advertiser-pays model. Local Corp.’s established patent position may help it expand its reach into the emerging pay-per-call mobile ad industry. For example, the company’s patent No. 8,306,208, entitled “Enhanced directory assistance services in a telecommunications network,” covers a pay-per-call enhanced directory assistance method or system through which pay-per-call advertiser listings are provided to consumers in response to directory assistance inquiries. In addition to offering directory assistance for traditional voice-based inquiries, the system may also encompass text and voice command requests from smartphones. Further, the patent includes coverage for a method or system to dynamically order pay-per-call directory listing results and track subsequent telephone referrals.
Other U.S. patents held by the company include patent No. 8,359,049 and focus on mobile implementations using wireless messaging protocols to receive keyword search data associated with a directory service request and to match it with a relevant advertiser associated with the keyword search.
Pay-per-call appears to be a natural way to monetize the rapidly increasing number of local searches being made through mobile devices and could represent a high-value target market for Local Corp., based on Borrell’s research. Though performance remains to be seen, a company like Local Corp. with the intellectual property and business expertise serving local ad markets could be a force in this sector going forward."

For the last few months, you may have noticed an increase in the conversation on this blog and elsewhere about call monetizaton. Sometimes referred to as Pay-per-call (a branch of call monetization), this includes charging businesses for inbound phone leads.
Like search marketing in its early days, call monetization is picking up fast. And in a lots of ways, it’s branching out from search. In fact, Google’s efforts with call monetization are characterizing and validating the opportunity to the broader market.
The reason this is culminating now is the growth in smartphone and resulting growth in mobile search. As we keep saying, mobile search carries a great deal of commercial intent from users. And don’t forget the mobile device is also a phone.
