• Targeted Advertising. We believe that search-based advertising delivers a more relevant list of businesses, products and services for our users because advertisers generally only pay for keywords, categories and regions that are related to the products and services they offer. By providing access to our users via performance, display and subscription ad units, businesses can target consumers at the exact time a consumer has demonstrated an interest in what that business has to offer. As a result of our core demographic, we believe that local and commercial searches performed on our flagship-site tend to convert into buying customers at a higher rate than many other types of search traffic. As a consequence, there is competition from third-parties to place their advertiser listings on our website, which along with our direct advertisers and growing local display advertising offerings drives monetization of our traffic. We believe that our users’ propensity to buy correlates with the value of our traffic, and
explains, in part, why our flagship.site monetizes its search traffic at higher levels than other types of search traffic.
• Access to a Desirable Demographic of Decision-Makers. Our patented and proprietary technology allows us to consolidate an amalgamated and disparate set of local business and product listings, information and other data and combine it into a targeted, highly relevant results-set, which is presented in a useful and compelling manner.
• Access to a Large Number of Local Business and Product Listings and Local Content . With over 12 million local businesses indexed and approximately 3 million localized products using our proprietary technology, we offer users of our websites and Network partner websites and our third party partners with a resource for local businesses and products in their area, including various photographs, user ratings and reviews, video, product information, inventory information, coupons and hours of operations, among other things. We believe that our ability to aggregate this content and deliver relevant, targeted results in response to user search queries ensures our users and those accessing our partner websites with a good experience when using our services. When an advertiser’s targeted ad listing is combined with a large pool of similarly targeted ad listings, we believe our advertisers have a better chance of reaching their target audience. Additionally, we believe the combination of user and advertiser satisfaction with our local search service is important to the acceptance of our service by our Network partners and the success of our flagship-website and Krillion local shopping platform.

Value of Krillion alone is a lot higher than the market-cap of Local Corp.
Oct. 14, 2011 1:43 AM ET |
Last week, the USPTO granted a patent to Local Corp (Nasdaq: LOCM) that appears to have significant implications for location based product and deal search offerings in the local space and has the potential to be the most valuable among a growing and increasingly valuable stable of local and directory search patents owned by Local Corp.
Patent #8,032,427 related to location based product search appears to encompass core aspects of services being offered by Groupon (GRPN) (Groupon Now), Living Social (Instant) and Foursquare; and is part and parcel of the product search functionalities offered by eBay's Milo (Nasdaq: EBAY), Gannett's ShopLocal (NYSE: GCI), Jiwire's NearbyNow, Retailigence and Goodzer. This patent could offer LOCM one of its most significant opportunities for near term licensing revenue, as we believe that the patent encompasses core aspects of the local product search offerings of these companies. This niche is growing rapidly, attracting significant capital and most importantly for Local Corp's purposes, the key players emerging in the space are not partners/revenue sources for Local Corp.

“We entered 2014 focused on three avenues to drive long-term shareholder value:
- growing our core business,
- leveraging our Krillion® data technology and
- monetizing our intellectual property.”
Marin
“We are pleased to report strong results in Q1, as revenue growth accelerated to its highest rate since Q4 2012,” said Chris Lien, Founder and Executive Chairman of Marin. “Revenue for the quarter was $22.8 million, up 33% year over year.
Net loss was ($8.3) million or ($0.25) per share based on 33.1 million weighted average shares outstanding.
Adjusted EBITDA was ($5.4) million, as compared to ($8.0) million for the first quarter of 2013. “
Local Corp
“First quarter 2014 revenue of $26.2 million grew 22% year-over-year based on strong contributions from our Extended Ad Network,” said Ken Cragun, Local Corporation chief financial officer. “Total Network revenue grew 78% year-over-year, as we added both new Network partners and ad products for publishers. The growth in Network revenue combined with operating efficiencies realized in 2013 enabled the company to continue to invest in new initiatives and deliver Adjusted EBITDA of $712,000 in the first quarter of 2014. GAAP net loss for the first quarter of 2014, which included $1.0 million in severance charges, was $2.8 million, or ($0.12) per diluted share.”
And if you substract the about 100 million cash of marin from the market-cap of 299 million = about 200 million - this is the 5-fold of the market-cap of Local Corp, which has higher revenues and a better EBITDA and lower net loss.
