It will be especially interesting to see applications for contextual technology that have not yet been thought up. Retailers have long hoped for indoor and location-based services to provide closer and more immediate contact with consumers, but if these services offer nothing more than in-store coupons and the like, they will hardly excite enough attention to win broad adoption. A company like Foursquare, with its game-like architecture, urban focus, and young demographic, seems especially well positioned to make use of iBeacon and other granular location platforms in innovative ways. Companies like Goodzer, Retailigence, and Krillion (owned by Local Corp), who work to catalogue the inventories of thousands of stores, could open their databases to consumer-oriented services that would allow for broad-based local comparison shopping, flexible delivery and pickup services, and powerful real-time search. It will not be surprising to see data-driven technologies like these becoming part of our everyday lives within two to three years.

The rapid growth of Amazon, and the high-profile decline of brick-and-mortar retailers like Borders, masks a surprising statistic: e-commerce makes up only 5-10% of total retail sales in the United States. Customers still want the experiences only physical stores can provide, and data mining companies are helping small businesses take advantage of the web to increase profitability within their local community.
During a panel at Street Fight’s Local Data Summit, Closely CEO Perry Evans moderated a panel with Retailigence CEO Jeremy Geiger, Goodzer CEO Mike Wilson and Krillion/Local Corp Shopping VP Sherry Thomas-Zon, which took a deep dive in the challenges and opportunity of bringing local inventory online. The panelists argued that those data could provide small, brick-and-mortar stores with an advantage over thier online-only competitors — but only if those local businesses are maintaining and refining an online presence of their own.
When shoppers use retail websites for background information and inventory searches prior to visiting stores, data mining can step in and measure that information, using data sets to identify specific interests and behaviors so that customers can be catered to in a more nuanced way.
“We amass a huge amount of data, and there are subsets interesting to certain groups,” Thomas-Zon said. “We have to be flexible enough to serve those folks, and those folks will pay for access to that information.”

LOCM würde auch ideal zu FB , Bing (MSFT), Yelp passen ? Oder auch ein "Apfel" kann die AG garantiert ideal eingliedern. Auf Patente schauen die auch.

Der richtige Schub wird wohl erst kommen, wenn es auch für andere Länder genutzt werden kann. Da ich keinen direkten Bezug zu Amerika habe und mich dort auch nicht auskenne, kann ich es nicht ausreichend testen, inwieweit es wirtklich gut funktioniert.
Aber warum schreibt "Local.Com" in der FAQ nur, dass es derzeit den Service nur in den USA anbietet. Warum kein Wort, dass sie an einem Ausbau arbeiten. Liegt dieser doch noch so in sehr weiter Ferne, dass sie es erst gar nicht erwähnen wollen, dass sie an den Ausbau denken bzw daran arbeiten ?
Daher habe ich auch den Verdacht, dass die Shortseller nicht nur einfache Shortseller sind, sondern auch aus dem Dunstkreis von Inubaren von Konkurrenten stammen können wie z.B. Yelp, die Angst haben, dass sie ihre überteuerten Aktien nicht mehr losschlägen können, ehe der Kurs dieser überteuerten Aktien zusammenbricht.
Wenn das die SEC nachweisen können, ware dafür allerdings Knast angesagt.
