The citizens of Papua New Guinea have jokingly been comparing the state of their Nation with the corruption riddled dictatorship of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe for several years now and drawing parallels between the longevity of the reign of PM Michael Somare and the African state’s leader.

But the latest Corruption Perception Index published by Transparency Intenational actually ranks PNG twenty places BELOW Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.

The Index places Papua New Guinea in joint 154th place, alongside African countries like Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville and Guinea-Bissau, while Zimbabwe is ranked 134th.

....Ohren etwas vom Dreiergipfel Momis/Semoso/Somare mitbekommen??? Im Endeffekt ging´s dort doch um Hopp oder Top.

Oder sollten die drei es zum ersten Mal schaffen, etwas unter dem Siegel der Verschwiegenheit geheim halten zu können?

Wenn es „normal“ wird, in Ländern wie Indonesien, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippinen, Chile, Kolumbien oder Argentinien zu investieren, dann dürften die immer noch eingepreisten Risikoprämien bei Aktiengesellschaften, die in diesen Ländern tätig sind, sukzessive sinken.

When you have a billion tone resource of copper and gold (materials that have always been "rare" and will continue to be so) a few hundred thousand tons of rare earth, assuming they are present in economically mineable concentrations, is just icing on a pretty massive cake.

Along those lines it is clear that long term sustainable development of China to the levels it would like will require MASSIVE amounts of copper for electricity generation distribution. The Chinese are currently having to open a new large power generation plant EVERY WEEK to keep up growth demand. Thats a s@@tload of copper. Furthermore, as Tacheless has said, if Bougainville wants to climb out of its stone-age feudal economy (with its attendant problems of corruption / cycles of ethnic based violence etc etc) the only way forward is to develop a sound economic base, and for them, at present (until someone develops a method for making semiconductors out of coconut shell and Pandanus palms) that can only mean mining, and the shortest way forward is reopening the Panguna copper mine.

One of the big name combatants in South Bougainville says that Bougainville needs to stop fighting and work hard to develop its economic activity.
THOMAS TARI told New Dawn FM that he now realises that Bougainville has been wasting time fighting instead of unting and working together to develop the Region.
MR. TARI is in the delegation that is in China this week.

Many exfighters from Central, South and North are in this delegation and are happy to go back home and prepare to destroy a;ll weapons of destruction.

Die technische Situation für die Aktie verbessert sich ständig. Jeden Tag leichte Kurssteigerungen nach dem Kursverfall, dem gesunden Sell Out, vor Wochen. Die alten Höchststände bis 2008 werden jetzt getestet und übersprungen. Jetzt fehlt nur noch der Test bei rund 1,11 von Ende 2007.
Aber wer glaubt nicht an den erfolgreichen Test und das überspringen dieser Marke?
Bei dem Umfeld im Rohstoffbereich und den positiven politischen Veränderungen vor Ort ist dies nicht mehr die Frage von Jahren, sondern nur noch von Tagen, maximal Wochen....

Dass Präsident Momis vor der chinesischen Handelskammer offen über das BCA Review spricht kann wohl nur bedeuten dass in vorangegangenen Gesprächen über die Pangunamine bzw. BOC gesprochen wurde. ;)))))))))))))

Danach werden die Bougainviller aufgefordert Ackerbau u. Viehzuchtprodukte herzustellen um damit die BOC Kantinen zu beliefern,ganz so als ob die Mine schon eröffnet wäre.Hier bekommt quasi jeder B´viller SOFORT einen Job,ging doch zu BCL Zeiten die gesamte Inselproduktion integral an die BOC Kantinen wobei nicht mal die Hälfte des Bedarfs damit gedeckt werden konnte.Details dazu findet man in dem Buch Bougainville-Establishment of a Copper Mine welches auf der ESBC oder FOB HP gedownloaded werden kann.

President JOHN MOMIS wants the people of Bougainville to engage themselves in worthwhile projects which would be available under this arrangement.

He says that he wants Bougainville Businessmen and women to start thinking of animal husbandry and other Agricultural projects like Pineaple and fruits in preparation for the opening of the Panguna mine.

He said under the Bougainville Copper Agreement Review they want to see that all fruits and vegetables and potatoes that can be grown in the mountains of Wakunai and Bougainville are sold to the company and not imported from outside.

MP wants Panguna mine re-opened

Bougainville Affairs MP Fidelis Semoso has met with Panguna landowners (PLA) and others from other Bougainville copper lease areas in Port Moresby.
He reiterated his call to see an impact project get off the ground for Bougainville, a project that will “create employment for our youth, rebuild our schools and health services but most importantly boost the economy of the region”.
He made it clear that he wanted the Panguna mine re-opened at the earliest opportunity.
This means that he wants to see the Bougain-ville Copper Agreement (BCA) review fast tracked.
He said he is committed to assisting the Panguna landowners get themselves organised.
He has directed Lawrence Daveona to arrange for landowner representatives from each of the six mine lease areas to come to Buka for two days of consultation with him to tell him what they want.
He told the landowners present at the meeting that he does not want to waste time, saying that Panguna landowners’ issues had been there before the crisis and are still there and no one has really attended to them.
With the BCA review, Panguna landowners are the major stake holders.
He maintained that the problem is not the Bougainville people but “us the elected leaders of Bougainville”, both the ABG and the National Government.
Mr Semososaid during his travels throughout the island he has found out that the general feeling is that the Panguna mine must be re-opened and that there is no other way for Bougainville to move forward.
He challenged the landowners to give him tangible project submissions to push through the Government system for funding.
The landowners in turn assured him that he will be getting project submissions soon.  

Polizeistärke soll von 176 in vier Stufen auf mehr als 1.000 aufgestockt werden.
Die erste Stufe soll 2011 umgesetzt werden. Der benötigte Aufbau eines Staates mit Rechtssicherheit wird konsequent durchgeführt.

Men power addressed

The police manpower shortage will be addressed in a major restructuring exercise. Assistant Commissioner for Bougainville Police Thomas Eluh says the police service in the region was seriously affected during the civil crisis.

He says the restructure will identify various positions and ranks for the police service.

ACP says the restructure program will boost the men power for effective police service delivery.

The exercise is part of the police service 45 million plan to be implemented over a period of 10-12 years. It has been divided into four phases.

The first phase will cost 6 million kina to be implemented next year.

Currently the police service has only 176 police personnel. They need more than 1000 members.
