Fauro (Solomon Islands) 100% owned: An exploration licence covering over 70km2 of Fauro Island was granted to Solomon Gold on 30 November 2009 for a period of three years and is owned 100% by Solomon Gold. The licence may be renewed for 4 years after this initial term and a mining lease may be applied for by the Company.

Fauro lies 82km southeast of the giant copper gold mine on Bougainville, in neighbouring PNG, and Solomon Gold geologists believe Fauro to represent a gold rich high level variant sitting above a porphyry system similar to Bougainville. Fauro’s geological setting is similar to the giant 40m oz Lihir deposit, 560km to the northwest. Lihir and Fauro show similar mineralogy and geological setting, and Solomon Gold believes Fauro to have potential to host a world class gold deposit with geological similarities to Lihir.

Der Name ist vertraulich. Zunächst muß aber abgewartet werden, wie PNG auf die Momis / Semoso Initiative reagiert.

Zambia charges Chinese in mine shootings

Doctors removed bullets from Collum coal miner Vincent Chenjela's body at Lusaka's University Teaching Hospital on Saturday.

Lusaka, Zambia (CNN) -- Officials in Zambia have charged two Chinese mine managers with the attempted murder of 11 of their employees at a coal mine in the southern part of the African country last week.
The suspects, Xiao Li Shan and Wu Jiu Hua, are expected to remain in custody as they await trial.
The managers at the Chinese-run Collum coal mine in Sinazongwe district -- some 186 miles (300 kilometers) south of the capital, Lusaka -- allegedly shot and wounded 11 miners during a work dispute, said Sinazongwe District Commissioner Oliver Pelete and Zambia Police Inspector-General Francis Kabonde.
The mine's management has repeatedly locked horns with its employees over the years because of pay and working conditions. In June, about 22 miners were injured underground.
The Zambian government closed the mine, temporarily, because it lacked adequate safety standards last year.
After the shooting, Zambian Labour Deputy Minister Simon Kachimba warned the government would not allow investors to abuse workers, the state-run Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) reported. He did not specifically single out companies from China.
The Asian giant is a significant investor in Zambia , which is rich in coal and copper reserves.
But its companies fall under near constant criticism from labor unions, opposition politicians and ordinary people over what they say are the unsafe working conditions and low wages offered to locals by the Chinese-run firms.
Mines Minister Maxwell Mwale and other government ministers have warned Chinese investors to abide by Zambian laws and to do a better job of protecting their employees.
Opposition leader Michael Sata, who partly campaigned on an anti-China platform during the 2006 elections, has repeatedly condemned what he sees as Chinese investors' mistreatment of local workers.
The worst accident involving a Chinese company in Zambia happened in 2005 when close to 50 people were killed in an explosion at the Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy factory in the town of Chambishi.

Die mir zur Verfügung stehenden Atamo Daten sind  etwas niedriger. Zu berücksichtigen ist dabei allerdings, dass die Daten Stichproben sind, die variieren und durch umfangreiche Exploration nach Aufhebung des Moratoriums durch BOC neu erfasst werden.
Wichtiger ist dabei ein ganz anderer Aspekt : Sollte vor Ort das Interesse am Bergbau außerhalb Pangunas größer sein, als in Panguna, dann bestehen hervorragende Ausweichmöglichkeiten.

wenn durch die Verzögerung des JSB die Menschen vor Ort unnötig lange leiden. Das Menschen verachtende Vorgehen der PNG Regierung, die Neuaufnahme des Bergbaus in Bougainville aus durchsichtigen Gründen so lange wie möglich zu verhindern, könnte dazu führen, dass die Menschen in Bougainville sich noch weiter von PNG entfernen, die umfassende Autonomie ablehnen und bei der Abstimmung zur Unabhängigkeit die komplette Unabhängigkeit wählen. PNG sollte die langfristigen Konsequenzen gut durchdenken und umgehend die JSB Gespräche aufnehmen.

Mine talks on hold with JSB

THE delay in the Joint Supervisory Body meeting between the National Government and the ABG is now affecting the review of the Bougainville Copper Agreement.
The Bougainville executive council under president John Momis has begun discussing issues relating to mining in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and high on agenda is the BCA review, which is supposed to have been on-going if the last three JSB’s had not been cancelled.
Momis’ policy review announced recently states, the review process is the first step in order for Bougainvilleans to work with the other major stakeholders-the National Government and BCL. In the review process, issues like Bougainville Copper Agreement, compensation, environment, training, business opportunities for Bougainvilleans, and revenue sharing with landowners and the Bougainville government will be addressed.
At the same time, the BEC will be considering the future of the moratorium on mineral exploration in Bougainville.  

australische Hochkomissar sich in die Vermittlung über das JSB zwischen PNG und Bougainville eingeschaltet hat, kam es am Wochenende zu einem Treffen zwischen Somare und Momis in Port Moresby. Ob der von PNG provozierte Konflikt dabei gelöst wurde und endlich die Menschen unwürdige Situation - bis hin zum Hungertod von Kindern in Bougainville - angegangen wird, wird die nächste Zeit zeigen. Zu begrüßen ist dabei, dass Momis alles versucht, um die katastrophale Situation in Bougainville zu lösen. Die Übertragung der Minenrechte an die Bougainville Regierung ist dabei der zentrale Punkt. Sollte diese Übertragung nicht einverständlich geschehen, bleibt, sie einseitig zu erklären. Die Unterstützung Australiens für diesen Fall liegt vor, obwohl Australien aus geostrategischen Gründen - Schutz vor der chinesischen Ausbreitung - an einer harmonischer Entwicklung interessiert ist

Togel laid to rest in Buka

BOUGAINVILLE leaders finally laid one of the region’s former leaders - James Togel to rest at his wife’s Malis village, Gogohe over the weekend.
ABG President John Momis missed the burial on Saturday afternoon because he had to travel to Port Moresby to meet with the Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
But ABG leaders and the Bougainville Administrator Lawrence Disin and his executives were present. Togel’s life history was cited again at Gogohe for the public and his people to hear-the fact that he was instrumental in successfully setting up 40 provincial governments in Bougainville and how he was so particular about the leadership of Bougainville.
He is survived by wife Juliana, daughters Nelia and Juliet and son James Jr.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in Papua New Guinea’s autonomous province of Bougainville says it’s hoped that a restructuring of the service, predicted to cost 17 million US dollars, will begin next year.

Thomas Eluh says in the five months that he’s been with the Bougainville Police, the force has been operating without a chain of command.

He says until key positions of authority are filled, long-running problems of lawlessness in Bougainville will persist.

Mr Eluh says to make the restructuring financially possible it’s been broken into four phases over a 10 to 12 year period.

“So the first phase of our restructure which hopefully is estimated at about six million kina, we have done the paperwork and it is now with Treasury, the national Treasury in Port Moresby, hopefully they can find money to assist us next year to get the restructure rolling.”

Da könnte man fast meinen dass die beiden dabei sind den Vorschlag des Präsidenten der ESBC umzusetzen ;-))))))))))))

Die Hauptpunkte bei diesem Treffen waren zweifellos die Terminierung des nächsten JSB Meetings sowie Details zur Uebertragung (eines Teils?) der von PNG gehaltenen BCL Shares ans ABG.

Wenn es, auch auf Druck Australiens zu einer Einigung der beiden Präsidenten gekommen ist,so dürfte der Ablauf des nächsten JSB Meetings auch mit dem Beschluss zur Uebertragung der Mining-Power und der BCA Review nur eine Formsache sein.

Könnte eine spannende Woche werden.

Wie schnell es manchmal mit den Entscheidungen geht haben wir ja schon des öfteren gesehen.;-)))))))))))))

Die in Johannesburg ansässige Harmony Gold (WKN 851267) und Australiens Newcrest Mining (WKN 873365), zwei Goldproduzenten aus der weltweit ersten Reihe, melden eine erhebliche Ausweitung ihres 50:50-Joint Ventures Wafi-Golpu in Papua-Neuguinea. Nach positiven Bohrergebnissen wurde das Explorationsziel für Wafi-Golpu von 20 auf 30 Mio. Unzen Gold angehoben und das Kupferziel von 4 auf 8 Mio. Tonnen erhöht!

Es mag andere Funde in ähnlicher Größenordnung geben, aber Wafi-Golpu sieht mittlerweile nach der größten Neuentdeckung des Jahrhunderts aus. Um eine ungefähre Bewertung anzudeuten: Im September bot die kanadische Goldcorp 3,6 Milliarden CAD für das Goldprojekt Cerro Negro von Andean, das 2,5 Mio. Unzen Gold und 23,6 Mio. Unzen Silber aufweist. Man vergleiche das mit Harmony, die über einen Marktwert von 4,7 Mrd. USD aufweist, und dieses Jahr – hauptsächlich aus Südafrika – eine Produktion von 1,5 Mio. Unzen Gold erzielen dürfte.

Einige der größeren Goldfunde dieses Jahrzehnts sind beispielsweise die La Colosa-Entdeckung von AngloGold Ashanti (WKN 164180), die übermehr als 10 Mio. Unzen Gold verfügt, der Angostura-Fund von Greystar Resources (WKN 920658) mit ebenfalls mehr als 10 Mio. Unzen und Sukari Hill von Centamin Egypt (WKN 867069) mit rund 10 Mio. Unzen Gold.

Golpu liegt auf der sehr ergiebigen Morobe-Liegenschaft in Papua-Neuginea. Morobe beherbergt als Teil des Harmony-Newcrest-Joint Ventures bereits die Hidden Valley-Mine, auf der schon Dezember 2009 die Produktion in Angriff genommen wurde. Bei voller Kapazität soll Hidden Valley 255.000 Unzen Gold und 4 Mio. Unzen Silber pro Jahr produzieren. Die Goldressourcen auf Hidden Valley liegen bei 5,4 Mio. Unzen. Der Bau der Mine schlug mit vergleichsweise günstigen 198 Mio. USD zu Buche.

Auf Wafi, in der Nähe von Golpu gelegen, wurden mehr als 6 Mio. Unzen Gold abgegrenzt und die Bohrarbeiten laufen weiter. Weiter im Nordwesten Papua-Neuguineas hält Harmony 100% am Mount Hagen- und 100% am Amanab-Projekt. Golpu allein ist nun von der Größe her auf einer Höhe mit anderen großen Kupfer- und Goldprojekten wie OK Tedi und der historischen Mine in Bougainville.

Harmony Gold gab zudem bekannt, dass eine Konzeptstudie für Wafi-Golpu bereits im August 2010 fertig gestellt wurde. Nun zielt man auf den Abschluss einer vorläufigen Machbarkeitstudie für Ende 2011 oder Anfang 2012 ab. Die Kosten für diese Studie, die den Bau einer neuen Straße, die Errichtung eines Minencamps und zugehöriger Infrastruktur sowie den Beginn der Arbeiten an einem Zugang zur Untertageexploration beinhalten, werden afu 150 Mo. USD geschätzt.
