We have  successfully  completed the regulatory  approval process for our blood,
oral fluid and urine rapid tests in Uganda.
We have completed clinical trials of
our rapid blood test in South Africa and are  awaiting the final  results of the
trials there.  We anticipate  commencing  clinical  trials of our oral fluid and
urine rapid tests in South  Africa  shortly.  We will  complete  the  regulatory
approval  processes  in South  Africa as soon as  possible  upon  receipt of the
clinical trial results. We also expect to begin additional trials during 2005 in
several  other African  countries.  While there are  different  regulations  and
customs  in  each  foreign  country,  we  are  finalizing  or  have  established
distribution  relationships in several countries that will be part of these next
trials and we believe  that the  regulatory  process can  generally be completed
within in a few months
 

In China, we have completed the clinical trials on our HIV rapid tests that were
conducted by the  National  Center for AIDS/STD  Control and  Prevention  of the
Chinese CDC. The trials  involved  approximately  1,500  subjects.  We are still
awaiting a final report on the  performance  of our HIV-1/2  rapid tests and the
serum and urine  Western  Blot  supplemental  tests  that were  included  in the
clinical  trials.  We  expect to use this data to  submit  our  application  for
product  approval to the Chinese FDA in the second  quarter of 2005. In parallel
with  the  regulatory  approval  process,  we  have  continued  to  advance  our
manufacturing  strategy.  We expect to have  production  available  to support a
commercial product launch in China subsequent to regulatory  approval during the
second  half of 2005.  There are  several  large  markets in China,  including a
recently  announced  commitment by the Chinese government to offer voluntary HIV
testing to its entire 1.36 billion  population.  With trained  non-professionals
and a safe,  non-invasive  alternative  fluid - oral  fluid or  urine -  testing
program  employing the products  currently  involved in the clinical  trial,  we
expect strong demand for our products.  Beijing Calypte,  our joint venture with
Marr, will manage the Chinese rapid test product launch.
 

Dr. Richard George, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calypte, said, "We have accomplished much in the past quarter and we have never been closer to achieving our goals. We completed an $8 million financing and we concluded two positive clinical trials in Uganda and China. We have received approval to export our HIV-1/2 rapid test -- blood, oral fluid and urine -- into Uganda. In China we expect to use the data from the recently concluded clinical trials to file an application during the current quarter seeking regulatory approval from the Chinese SFDA to sell our products in China.. We have also started the registration trial in South Africa, which will permit Calypte to bid on government tenders."

Dr. George added, "To supply these markets, we have also completed the technology transfer and quality control with our Thailand contract manufacturer and accordingly have the ability to ship product for sale and additional registration trials in Africa. Most importantly we continue to pursue the regulatory process in other countries in Africa, which is the final stage prior to sales."

Dr. George concluded, "In trying to enhance the value of these accomplishments we instituted a restructuring plan that will streamline our operational expenses as we direct our resources to complete the regulatory process and prepare for product launch. We have unequivocally moved the ball down the field."

Calypte management will host a conference call at 4:30pm Eastern Time today to discuss and answer questions regarding the Company's first quarter financial results as well as provide an update on the Company's current activities.

Almost a year ago, OraSure Technologies of Bethlehem received approval to test for both strains of the virus that causes AIDS. The licensing agreement is critical to OraSure's plan to market its OraQuick rapid HIV test around the world.

OraQuick detects for HIV-1 and HIV-2 in either saliva or blood in less than 20 minutes. HIV-1 is the predominant strain of the disease in the United States and most of the world. HIV-2 is found primarily in sub-Sahara Africa.

Placing the world's first rapid oral HIV test internationally — especially in highly infected Africa — hasn't been easy, according to OraSure's new president, Douglas A. Michels.

''We are well known around the world,'' said Michels, speaking at his first annual meeting with OraSure since joining the company from Johnson & Johnson in August.

''In each one of the African countries, there's a minister of health and a president. They control the purse strings.''

There are about 24 million HIV cases in Africa, but OraSure has been able to sell only a small number of tests for use on the continent, Michels told an audience of about 100 shareholders at Hotel Bethlehem.

Without modern tests, the AIDS epidemic will continue in Africa, Michels fears.

''These committees make recommendations for what products are acceptable and which will be used,'' Michels said. ''We have to work both with the U.S. administration level, with the local country level in both the political and medical community to get our products adopted.

''Once the products are deemed acceptable from the technology perspective, then we still have the pricing issue to deal with. There are some very low-price competitors that are trying to provide products into those markets. We don't believe they are as high quality. None have approved oral fluid indications for HIV-1 and HIV-2.

''So we have a clear advantage. But it's a difficult, complex political and economic process.''

Marketing challenges in Africa didn't douse optimism of shareholders, who learned early this month that OraSure earned a record $1.6 million in the first quarter of this year, compared to a $162,000 loss a year before.

''I'm a stockholder and have worked on HIV and AIDS since the 1980s,'' said Robert Zielony, a health consultant from New York City. ''One of the first leaders I met told me something that I've never forgotten: 'AIDS is not business as usual.'

Rapid tests will help people find out if they have it.''

OraSure stock, traded on the Nasdaq National Market, closed at $8.50 per share Tuesday, down 15 cents.

englisch dazu nicht ausreichen würde, um einen solchen artikel zu schreiben, ansonsten würdest du ja auch dir filings kapieren.

fakt ist, du identifizierst dich damit und ich kann dir aber sagen, dass caly auf jeden fall ein preis-problem bekommen wird. angeblich wollen sie ihre tests ja für mehrere $ verkaufen...der markt gibt aber nur ca. 1,5$ her...  

Tests ! Calypte wird das Monopol bei den Rapid-Urine-Tests haben und Marktführer werden ! Immer noch nicht kapiert ? Was soll also deine Aussage: "angeblich wollen sie ihre tests ja für mehrere $ verkaufen...der markt gibt aber nur ca. 1,5$ her..." Warts einfach ab, was diese Tests dann kosten ! Und bitte informier dich mal etwas besser- da ist ja wirklich die Zeit zu schade mit dir zu kommunizieren, wenn Du noch nicht mal die grundlegenden Fakten über Calypte und den HIV-Test-Markt kennst ! Blamabel, joelu.  

für seinen test mehrere $ brauch, um seine kosten zu decken.

da ich keine andere chance habe, mich zu artikulieren, muß ich diesen weg wählen.

ich würde gar nicth jede entgleisung melden, da es im normalen leben so ist, das die worte schon mal unfreundlicher sind. da ich hier aber von dem user kade wegen nichtigkeiten zur rechenschaft gezogen werde, möchte ich, dass ihr mit fenau dem gleiche mass seine postings bewertet.

gar nicht wundern und das wird auch so weitergehen mit dem melden von "verletztenden postings", egal auch welcher zeit, weil ich auch so behandelt werde. wer austeilt und mich für jede kleinigkeit anschwärzt, bekommt halt den bumerang zu spüren, oder meinst du etwas, dass für "deine majestät" andere bewertungsgrundsätze gelten würden.

wenn du auf kritik reagierts, wie die "prinzessin auf der erbse", nur weil du die wahrheit nicht vertragen kannst, ist es dein problem, dann mußt du/müssen wir halt damit rechnen, alle naselang gesperrt zu werden.

du kannst gerne auf dem niveau weitermachen und wegen jeder kleinigkeit, wie sie in allen anderen boards durchgehen, weinend zum moderator laufen oder aber du wirst einmal erwachsen und lernst auch mal das einzustecken, was du austeilst.
