Tirex Resources to Drill Previously Undrilled East Slope Trend
- Drilling to begin on the high priority East Slope Trend
- Large trend first detected when Tirex flew Albania's first ever airborne geophysical survey
- Trend hidden from previous Albanian state run exploration by thin limestone cap that hid favourable host rocks
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 7, 2009) - Tirex Resources ("Tirex") (TSX VENTURE:TXX) is pleased to announce that a second drill will begin turning on the company's Mirdita District. The second drill will test East Slope Trend anomalies with a focus on new discoveries and will be turning within one week.
The East Slope Trend has never been drilled and has never been the subject of any previous modern and systematic exploration.
Prior to Tirex's arrival in Albania, little was known about the East Slope Trend. The trend is considered to be of equal potential importance to the Gurthi and Munelle Trends which hosted multiple historic mines and VMS deposits. It is largely hidden by a thin limestone cap that covered the favourable volcanic host rocks and potential mineralization.
When Tirex flew the country's first ever airborne geophysical survey, the East Slope Trend was first identified. The trend has since become the subject of significant Tirex ground work including detailed geological mapping, stream sediment sampling and ground geophysics. Stream sediment sampling from creeks that drain the Trend were highly anomalous with copper values of 70-637ppm. Based on the airborne electromagnetic results, two Induced Polarization ("IP") lines (each about 2km long) were carried out across the trend. High priority drill targets, resulting from this ground work, have been identified. The target deposit type is Noranda-style VMS deposits. Such deposits on the Gurthi and Munelle Trends to the west host high grade copper, zinc, gold and silver mineralization.
George Gorzynski, P.Eng and Tirex Director states, "Armed with the data generated from significant ground work completed during the past year, Tirex is ready to drill the East Slope Trend. This trend, never before drilled, represents multiple opportunities for discovery. The initial identification of this trend and the subsequent target definition work are indicative of what modern exploration in this large historically producing District can do."
A map showing the East Slope Trend in relation to the historically producing Gurthi and Munelle Trends can be found on the company website at www.tirexresources.com.
In addition to the discovery focused drilling on the East Slope Trend, Tirex continues to drill step out holes at Letitna, targeting potential large tonnage VMS mineralization. Letitna is a thick zone of strong mineralization, open for expansion in every direction. Assays from recent holes drilled at Letitna are expected soon. George Gorzynski, P.Eng., Tirex Director, and a Qualified Person under the meaning of Canadian National Instrument 43-101, is responsible for the technical content of this news release.
Tirex is a company purpose-built to explore and develop the large 553 square kilometer Mirdita District in Albania. The nature of the VMS mineralization in this District provides Tirex investors with exposure to a high grade basket of metals: Copper, Zinc, Gold, and Silver. The property is readily accessible by paved and gravel roads and is located 70 km north of the capital city of Tirana. The property covers the core of the historically productive Mirdita VMS base metal district. It represents an opportunity to explore Copper, Zinc, Gold and Silver zones that were previously partially mined, explored or evaluated at lower metal prices, and provides an opportunity to apply modern exploration techniques toward the discovery of new VMS deposits and extensions of known zones. In addition to the 17 historical deposits identified by previous state-run exploration, Tirex has identified numerous high priority exploration targets resulting from the 2007 airborne geophysical survey, ongoing ground geophysics, geological mapping and other field work. The Mirdita exploration project is managed by an experienced team of Canadian geologists and other professionals, and several senior Albanian geologists, geophysicists and surveyors.

Drill hole MR09-42, interpreted as close to true width, was the sixth hole completed in the Letitna Zone on the Mirdita VMS Project and was drilled 25m east of hole MR09-40 which also intersected a wide zone of significant mineralization (see Tirex News Release dated July 13, 2009). Other wide drill sections of mineralization at Letitna were also recently reported (see Tirex News Releases dated January 13, July 7 and August 31, 2009).
Additional drill holes have intersected mineralization during drilling at Letitna and results will be reported when assays are received and interpreted. To date, drilling has been completed over a strike length of 255m (837 ft) and assays from several holes are pending. The zone remains completely open for expansion in every direction. Step out drilling at Letitna continues.
George Gorzynski, P.Eng. and Director, states, “This intersection continues the expansion of the Letitna Deposit. This is a thick zone of mineralization, open in every direction and is demonstrating
increased size potential with every drill hole. In addition to continued drilling at Letitna targeting large tonnage, Tirex is working on the previously undrilled East Slope Trend where the company is targeting new discovery potential.”

Drill core was NTW size (5.60cm diameter). Half core samples were collected with a rock saw, tagged for identification and securely stored at the Tirex base camp until shipment. A total of 5% assay standards and 5% blanks were inserted into the sample shipment as a quality control measure in addition to the internal quality control measures applied by the laboratory. All samples were shipped directly to ALS Chemex Laboratories in North Vancouver, Canada where they were dried, weighed, crushed and pulverized. Splits of each pulp were then analysed for 51 elements by ICP Spectrometry and assayed for copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold by standard assay methods.

I just returned late yesterday, from a great trip to Tirex's Mirdita District in Albania. With that, I thought you would want a brief update;
1.) The first drill is turning at Letitna. As per the last News Release, Tirex continues to encounter a thick zone of mineralization and drilling has now been completed over a strike length of 255m. The zone is wide open in every direction. Prior to drilling, it was the belief of the Tirex technical team that the Letitna area exhibited signs of significant size potential. With every drill hole assay, this potential is becoming more evident. The Tirex technical team will continue to drill step out holes at Letitna to continue targeting large tonnage.
2.) The second drill is turning at the East Slope Trend and is on the first hole. This large area has never before been subject to any significant exploration and has never been drilled. Tirex first identified this important geophysical trend during Albania's first ever airborne geophysical survey and followed up on this survey with significant ground geophysics, geochemical work and geological work during the past several months. Armed with this data, Tirex has started to drill and through drilling, is exposing investors to discovery potential.
In addition to the drilling being done above, Dr. Allan Miller, Chief Geologist and the Tirex technical team continue to conduct field work in other areas of the property, generating multiple new targets in the large 553 sq km District for future exploration.
Getting onto the property always reinforces the fact that the potential here is not simply the development of a good mining project, but rather is the development of a Mining District. A district of projects and a district with strong potential in copper, zinc, gold and silver.
