MrCh

nun schau sich einer diese Q1-Zahlen an:

http://investors.canadiansolar.com/...irol-newsArticle&ID=2045190

Umsatz: 861Mio USD (erwartet waren 725-750Mio)

http://seekingalpha.com/article/...5-results-earnings-call-transcript

.... And thank you all for joining us on the call today. 2015 started out strong for Canadian Solar, with both solar module shipments and revenue exceeding our first quarter guidance.

We have set a new record in quarter megawatt shipment. Our results continue to reflect our leadership position and the competitive advantages of being leaders in both module and thus gain solar total solution business.

Overall for Q1 the revenue balance shifted more toward module sales compared with the past four quarters. This partially reflected the shift of our business strategy from build-to-sell the solar project that are build to own model and intention to launch our YieldCo with our high quality operating assets.

In Q1, we benefited from strong demand worldwide. This was led by Japan, Europe and emerging market in Latin America. Sales to Americas represented 49% of revenues driven by project sales in Canada.

Asia represented 33% of revenue, primarily driven by a strong quarter in Japan. Meanwhile, Europe accounted for about 18% of the revenue.

We continue to deliver strong results in our total solutions business. In Q1 we closed the sales of three solar power plants in Canada. This totaled 30 megawatt AC and were valued that over C$200 million. We also turn on four solar power plants in UK totaling 40.2 megawatt.

We exited Q1 with a late stage pipeline totaling approximately 2.5 gigawatt, including about 1 gigawatt DC in US, 340 megawatt in China, 720 megawatt in Japan and 52.5 megawatt in United Kingdom and 140 megawatt in Brazil.

Following years of oversupply, a solar module shortage might emerge in 2H15 thanks to rising demand, Canadian Solar (CSIQ +5.3%) CEO Shawn Qu tells Bloomberg.
He notes Canadian (relies heavily on Chinese plants) plans to expand its module capacity to 3.5GW from a current 3GW, and its cell capacity by 400MW to as much as 2GW. Bloomberg has forecast global installations will rise to 57.2GW in 2015 from 40GW in 2013.
Qu also reiterates Canadian's plans to do an IPO a solar project YieldCo, and says it could arrive in 2H15. The YieldCo will contain low-risk U.S., U.K., Canadian, and Japanese projects....

Solar panel makers globally are preparing for their best year since 2011,... as China and Japan take advantage of falling prices to shift more of their energy production to clean power.

Panel production is forecast to grow by almost a third this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That’s a significant reversal for an industry that’s been crippled by its own excess as companies in China including JA Solar Holdings Co. and LDK Solar Co. raised almost $3 billion in 2007 and 2008 to expand production. With the cost of panels down by 66 percent since then, demand is surging as solar technology, for the first time, is able to compete head-to-head on price with fossil fuels in many places....All that demand from Asia will benefit companies in China, which produce more than 75 percent of the world’s panels. Shipments are also increasing for U.S. companies...

China, in a pact with U.S. President Barack Obama, agreed in November to get 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, with its total carbon emissions peaking the same year. To reach that goal, the Chinese government earlier this year boosted its target for 2015 solar installations to 17.8 gigawatts from about 12 gigawatts.

Japan may install as much as 12.7 gigawatts of solar power this year, the most after China. The country has promoted wider use of renewable energies, especially rooftop panels, after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown....

20.05.15 09:11
Solar stocks are selling off for the second day in a row as Yingli (YGE -42.4%) plunges into penny stock territory after disclosing in its 2014 annual report (filed after the close last Friday) its financial woes "raise substantial doubt about [its] ability to continue as a going concern."

Yingli CFO Wang Yiyu downplays his company's disclosure, which has sparked fears Yingli will be the next Suntech or LDK Solar. "Potential risks don’t mean they will happen and don’t mean Yingli is facing or will face such risks. They shouldn’t cause an overreaction.”
Wolfe Research's Gordon Johnson (formerly with Axiom, bearish on solar for a long time) thinks Yingli's disclosure has "caused a lot of investors to overlook massive debts on the balance sheets of pretty much EVERY publicly traded Chinese solar company," and that a Yingli liquidation could affect credit access for peers.

RBC's Mahesh Sanganeria, however, argues Yingli's problems are company-specific. "It is well understood by now that global solar demand is strong this year, as evidenced by a number of large contract signing announcements, active solar project development and acquisition, and positive company earnings." He does admit solar cell/module prices have been falling, but suggests this is partly due to lower costs, along with a weak yen/euro and lower polysilicon prices.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/...presentation-sell-off-unwarranted?

Summary

The company unveiled its preliminary estimates for its upcoming YieldCo on May 18, 2015.
Canadian Solar's sell off on investor day is unwarranted.
The company's core PV business is stronger than ever before given the rising global demand and the company's growing market share.
Canadian Solar's YieldCo CAFD could grow much faster than presented/estimated.

....On May 18, 2015, it unveiled its YieldCo plan on its investor day. Ironically, the stock hit as high as $40.01 on that day but closed at $37.06, down 4.2%. The sell-off accelerated and the stock closed at $33.31 as of May 20, 2015. Part of the decline was related to the negative news from one of the largest PV manufacturers - Yingli Green Energy.....

.....
I have no doubt that the company's YieldCo will operate successfully with more quality projects and higher CAFD down the road. If the Street only sees a 1.9 billion in Canadian Solar, so be it. In the short term, the stock will likely experience high volatility given its transitioning to a YieldCo and a soft second quarter guidance. I will not hesitate buying more on weaknesses and hold the shares tight. I reiterate that if you believe in the management and long-term potential, you should own Canadian Solar shares and you will not regret it.

Summary

Canadian Solar has announced plans to move into the promising global distributed solar markets, making the company's bull case even stronger.
Canadian Solar boasts several unique advantages in the distributed solar arena, namely its ability to manufacture its own solar modules.
Given Canadian Solar's early entrance into distributed solar, the company should be able to carve out a meaningful foothold in this arena. ......
.....
Conclusion

Canadian Solar has done comparatively well over the past few years compared to other solar module manufacturers. While other leading solar module manufacturers have declined to fractions of their former valuations, Canadian Solar is reaching all-time highs at a market capitalization of $1.85B. With Canadian Solar's entrance into the highly promising distributed solar industry, the company is a definite buy at its current levels. As one of the earliest solar module manufacturers entering the distributed solar arena, Canadian Solar will likely stake a large foothold into this emerging sector.

Strong Potential Industry Growth, With CSIQ as a Leader

According to Olivier Schafer, the president of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, photovoltaic cells are now becoming a mainstream electricity provider, changing the way the world is powered. PV installations saw another record year in 2013: at least 38.4 GW of newly-added capacity around the globe, and almost 11 GW in Europe.

As presented on the world cumulative installed capacity graph, the cumulative capacity since 2003 to 2013 increased by more than 5269%. The growth of the market was unparalleled, and now it might be considered a market with stable growth perspectives because of the regulation that around the world that is leaning towards renewable sources of the energy.

According to Solarbuzz, solar industry premier research provider, Canadian Solar was the third biggest manufacturer of the solar "modules" in 2013. Such substantial market share is a great predictor of the future cash flows..........

CSIQ represents an attractive risk-reward opportunity, with 50% downside relative to 200% upside. As such, we strongly recommend a buy of CSIQ at the current price, with substantial incremental purchases when dips into the mid-20s occur. We also suggest holding 100% of the position through a $60 price target, and 50% of the position through the $90 target and above, as the market responds to strong potential in the solar industry.

The action will see anti-dumping tariffs imposed on Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ), ReneSola (NYSE:SOL) and ET Solar, reviving a threat they previously avoided by agreeing to voluntarily raise their prices as part of a breakthrough deal in late 2013.

79561 Postings, 8918 Tage KickyTax Credit läuft aus 2016 von 30% auf 10% in USA

    #1375
13.06.15 10:17
.....Solar companies across the industry are ramping up installations to take advantage of the 30% federal investment tax credit before the end of 2016. After that, the tax perk drops to 10% for commercial and expires entirely for residential.

The Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) says that since the federal tax credit was passed in 2006, more than 150,000 American solar jobs have been created and $66 billion has been invested in solar installations nationwide. Last year, 32% of new electric generating capacity in the U.S. came from the solar projects.

As the tax credit heads toward apparent expiration, more than 32 gigawatts of photovoltaic  projects, each greater than 5 megawatts in size, are in development or under construction and slated to be operational by the deadline, IHS reported this month.

Canadian Solar is headquartered in Canada but has the bulk of its manufacturing operations in China. It dramatically increased its project pipeline in the U.S. with its February acquisition of Recurrent Energy, said Christine Beadle, IHS senior analyst. "Many of these projects are set to be completed prior to the 2016 deadline, including a 150 MW project for Austin Energy in Texas and several other projects in California."

....
China Leads Solar Build-Out

More than 40 countries will install at least 100 MW of new solar capacity in 2015, IHS forecasts. It expects global solar PV installations to grow 30% to 57.3 gigawatts this year, with total global PV generation capacity soaring 177% by 2019, to 498 GW.

China alone has a goal of installing 17.8 gigawatts of solar capacity this year, more than the entire global solar PV capacity deployed in 2010. The country appears to be on track, adding more than 5 GW in Q1, an 18% year-over-year increase that brought China's total solar capacity connected to the grid to more than 33 GW, according to the National Energy Administration.

Although solar PV inverter shipments to China increased last year, significant price declines have caused overall revenues within the industry to drop. Despite an 18% increase in PV inverter shipments, to 13.3 GW, to the Chinese market last year, revenue dropped 6%, IHS reported. Price wars among Chinese suppliers have become so fierce that many small suppliers have left the market entirely.

India is targeting new installations of 5 GW per year through 2022. In the U.S., solar PV installations are expected to grow 31% year-over-year to 8.1 GW, according to the SEIA forecast, reaching 40 GW of cumulative capacity by 2016.

At least 89 countries with solar PV end-markets will show growth in solar installations this year, IHS predicts. The top 10 markets are China, Japan, U.S., U.K., Germany, India, South Africa, Italy, Canada and Australia. IHS predicts that Chile will be the next emerging market after South Africa to reach the milestone of 1 GW in installed PV solar capacity.
IHS expects robust solar demand to trigger a four-year record high profit across the industry supply chain this year, with PV module makers' gross profits expected to top $5 billion -- more than double last year.

Although global solar growth was somewhat disappointing last year, 2015 is setting up to be stronger. So said Bernstein Research analyst Michael Parker in a 32-page report, released April 8, that assessed the solar market.

Parker and other Bernstein analysts expect two factors -- energy storage (essentially more efficient battery packs, such as those thatTesla Motors (TSLA) introduced this year) and costs of solar falling 24 cents per kilowatt hour without subsidies -- to make 2018 a "breakthrough year" for the industry.

"We are saying solar, plus energy storage, will be a credible, low-cost alternative in some markets by 2018 without any form of subsidy," Parker said in the report. "Adoption of solar and energy storage technology will accelerate. That scale will help lower costs."

Annual installations of grid-connected, PV solar systems paired with energy storage is expected to grow more than threefold to 775 MW this year, IHS forecasts.

Currently, when factoring in subsidies, a fully-financed, average-size rooftop solar system will reduce energy costs for 93% of single-family households in the 50 largest American cities, a recent Energy Department-based study by North Carolina State University said.
..

Another take on the plummeting cost of solar components and systems comes from the SEIA, which reports that the cost per watt of silicon PV cells has fallen from $76 in 1977 to 36 cents today. Analysts say that a relatively stable regulatory and policy environment is also helping to drive industry growth.

In the U.S., approximately 20 states have incentives with expirations after 2018 or later. Some of the most beneficial are in Arizona, Hawaii, Maryland, New Mexico and New York, said UBS analyst Julien Dumoulin-Smith.

A key question remains the timeline for implementing carbon regulations -- and to what extent the regulations, late in the decade, will affect the decline in the renewables industry that may follow the end of the federal tax credit in 2016,

14.06.15 14:11
