YRC Worldwide stock hits 52-week high
Shares of YRC Worldwide Inc. stock are riding high as the company plans to tighten up its freight operations by consolidating terminals around the network.
At around noon on Monday, shares in the Overland Park-based less-than-truckload carrier (Nasdaq: YRCW) hit a 52-week high at $9.60 per share after starting the month at $6.08 a share.
By 2:30 p.m., the stock sunk back down to $8.53 — a 14 percent gain from the stock’s open at $7.86 per share on Monday.
The stock’s soaring price is a sign that investors believe the company’s proposed change of operations and consolidation of terminals will be good for the long-term health of the company.
A previously released statement from YRC Freight President Jeff Rogers said the change of operations will save the company time and money.
Dave Ross, an analyst with St. Louis-based Stifel Financial Corp., previously said the operations appear to be “more of what needs to be done” and should help the company sustain profitability. Stifel provides investment banking and other financial services for YRC.
That change of operations request is being reviewed by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the labor union that represents a majority of YRC’s workforce.
