Vuzix: Improving Results, Another Key Partnership And Upcoming Product Releases
Summary
The smart glasses maker reported a small improvement in revenues ahead of a number of upcoming product launches.
The company also closed a deal with Lenovo to bring its flagship M100 product to China.
Over the next six months a number of product releases should boost revenues making Vuzix cash-flow positive.
A Pioneer In Smart Glasses
Around the same time as Larry Page and Sergey Brin were coming up with the first Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) search algorithm at Stanford, Vuzix (OTCQB:VUZI) was founded in Rockchester, New York. Then known as Interactive Imaging Systems, the company began in the design of night vision weapons sights for Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) and DRS Technologies in partnership with Kopin (NASDAQ:KOPN). By 2005, Vuzix had shifted company strategy to focus on consumer electronics. In the same year the company began to manufacture wearable displays for the US military. Finally in 2011 Vuzix released its first augmented reality consumer product, the STAR 1200. At that point in time the display was a bulky and expensive ($5,000) predecessor to the M100 which was released to enterprise consumers in 2013 for $1,000.
While first marketing the smart glasses to the enterprise client, Vuzix teamed up with SAP (NYSE:SAP) which developed software for the device and began a limited rollout of the device for warehousing and order fulfilment applications. SAP has received strong positive feedback from customers and will be initiating a more broad product ramp-up when its software packages are finalized later this year.
Finally, nine years after the company began its strategic shift, it stands on the verge of releasing its M100 into broader markets, and it's doing it on a larger scale. On July 24th of this year, Vuzix announced a partnership with Lenovo. Under the terms of the agreement, Vuzix will be the sole smart glasses provider to Lenovo in enterprise markets, and Lenovo will co-brand and market the device in China starting in September.
This partnership is significant for Vuzix for a number of reasons. Aside from bringing a major global player onboard to its wearables platform, on a financial level this deal has major implications for Vuzix. Looking at Vuzix's income statement, the company has been running a $1 million operating loss per quarter. At that rate of cash burn, the company would need to undergo another round of financing within the next 12 months. Now that probably will not happen since Vuzix will likely become cash flow positive in the current quarter.
Gross margins at Vuzix excluding depreciation and amortization have stood at about 40% since the release of the M100. Since Lenovo will be marketing the device, SG&A will remain almost completely flat, and any increase will be offset by higher gross margins as manufacturing rates rise and create economies of scale."
Ein Wert mit super Aussichten aber es wird Zeit, daß sich auch am Kurs was tut!
Oder kennt ihr sonst noch ein Unternehmen das vuzix Konkurrenz machen könnte ?
Partnership With Nokia Levono ,SAP and Microsoft
Now that Vuzix is already partnered with giants like Chinese Lenovo and European SAP, the next logical step for the company is to strengthen their already existing relationship with Finnish Nokia. And for Nokia, with their newly-acquired pile of Microsoft cash and no longer a cell-phone business to take care of, it makes just as much sense to wholly focus their attention on what is shaping out to be the hottest sector in the years to come -- smart glasses and wearables.
http://www.unwiredview.com/2013/12/16/...bles-smart-glasses-for-2015/
However, in my opinion, now that Nokia shareholders overwhelmingly approved the sale of Nokia mobile division to Microsoft, as did most of world’s regulatory agencies – the decision to abandon the project is the logical outcome. According to the terms of the contract, Nokia is not allowed to sell phones, smartphones or tablets under its name for the next 2 years. They could theoretically create a mobile Android device under a new brand, but given the level of competition in the market, competency, manufacturing, logistical and distribution base that is transferring to Microsoft, it makes little sense. Instead, according to CTech, Nokia has some big plans for its CTO office R&D activities. It will focus on the new emerging technologies like wireless power transmission, low power electromagnetic energy generation, flexible displays, graphene sensors and augmented reality to enter the newly forming wearable computing field. The current Nokia smart watch project may be going to Microsoft, but the more far off wearables are staying. In fact, Nokia smart glasses may already be on the product roadmap for 2015 release.
An illustration to Nokia's vision can be seen in the video below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwvZWyLiBU#t=115
Moreover, Vuzix is an integral part of that vision. In fact, a screenshot from the Nokia's video is included in VUZI's latest investor presentation (Page 24).

So what company do you think might be the next big partner announced by Vuzix? Hmmm... Or perhaps Nokia will just skip the partnership step all together, and shell out a billion or so of that Microsoft cash to simply buy out Vuzix and all their patents? Time will tell.
Weil Nokia ja für das ordentliche Geld in den nächsten 2 Jahren nicht in den Telefonmarkt darf.
Aber diese Spekulation ist schon lange auf dem Markt und bisher hat sie uns dennoch wenig gebracht.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vuzix® Corporation (OTCQB: VUZI), a leading supplier of Video Eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets, today announced it has joined the Salesforce Wear initiative, creating the first ecosystem dedicated to accelerating the adoption of wearables in the enterprise. As part of the initiative, Vuzix is helping businesses create wearable experiences with eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets. In addition, Vuzix will demonstrate the potential of wearable technology for a wide variety of workforce capabilities extending to many industries.
"Building on the rise and momentum of the wearable technology space, Vuzix is excited to be partnering alongside other key industry leaders in the technology and augmented reality space to create high-quality wearable solutions for worker productivity and satisfaction," said Vuzix CEO and President Paul J. Travers. "Contributing to the Salesforce Wear initiative will be Vuzix' award-winning M100 Smart Glasses, an Android based wearable computing communications and display system. Salesforce.com is one of the world's most innovative technology companies and we are pleased to be partaking in this initiative."
"Like mobile 10 years ago, wearables presents a huge opportunity for businesses to transform the way they work," said Daniel Debow, SVP emerging technologies, salesforce.com. "By leveraging the power of the Salesforce1 Customer Platform, Vuzix is helping companies connect with their customers in a whole new way."
The Salesforce Wear Developer Pack for the Salesforce1 Platform
Until now, there has not been a trusted, enterprise cloud platform for businesses that want to embrace wearables. Developers who wanted to create business-focused applications did not have access to an industry leading platform, reference applications and code, ecosystem support or customer data. Developers in the wearable space built great prototypes, but were not connected to a platform.
Now more than 1.5 million Salesforce1 developers can kick start a wearable strategy. With access to a growing library of devices, sample code, documentation, demonstrations and reference apps to learn from, enterprise developers can immediately start building their own business applications connected to wearable devices. The goal of the launch is to make it easy to dream, build and deploy bold ideas never before seen in the enterprise.
