Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten is planning to reorganise its fintech operations by integrating all its fintech businesses, including Rakuten Bank, into one unified entity in an attempt to gain a “competitive advantage” and optimise its “allocation of resources”.
The move will see Rakuten Card, Rakuten Securities Holdings, Rakuten Insurance Holdings, and other Rakuten-owned fintech businesses join with Rakuten Bank to form one unified group.
Rakuten Group says that the reorganisation aims to “leverage group synergies to maximise the lifetime value of each member and minimise customer acquisition costs, thereby maximising group profit”.

Rakuten, the cashback shopping platform, has announced the upcoming launch of Rakuten+, a membership program created specifically for designer brands.
This program aims to connect these brands with select, highly engaged Rakuten members, offering them access to the most loyal and active shoppers of designer fashion on the platform, the company said in a Thursday (May 30) press release.
Rakuten+ is set to be available in the fall, according to the release.
The program will allow designer brands to leverage elevated cashback rates to grow their audiences, incentivize everyday shopping and foster loyalty, the release said. Shoppers who are part of Rakuten+ will earn at least 10% cashback on participating brands and retailers year-round.

BTS and Seventeen Concert Films Head to Rakuten Viki (EXCLUSIVE)
A collection of concert films featuring K-Pop icons BTS and Seventeen will start to become available worldwide on Asian-themed streaming platform Rakuten Viki from next week.
An agreement between agency firm Hybe Corp. and Rakuten Viki provides a slate of nine concert films, variety shows, documentaries from July 5, kicking off with “BTS Speak Yourself in Seoul Final.”
While the content deals are not exclusive, the deal is the first time that Rakuten Viki is partnering with Hybe to bring its K-Pop content to the platform. Rakuten Viki also claims to be the largest streaming destination for Asian content globally, with 90 million users and that potentially puts Hybe’s content in front of larger pockets of fandom that smaller, interest-focused streamers or the large general interest streamers. Rakuten Viki operates a hybrid business model with ad-supported free viewing (AVOD) and premium (SVOD) tiers.
