On its Q1 earnings call, Mikitani claimed “smooth progress” in turning around the group’s loss-making mobile unit, noting profitability is just around the corner, with a target of EBITDA turning positive by December 2024.
He noted it is now in the third phase of its launch, which is telling customers about its improved network quality. It is working to a target of 10 million subscribers by end-2025.

Rakuten Group has been granted a patent for a control device that determines the landability of an aircraft at a target area by acquiring state information of the surface while a ground vehicle travels the area. The device includes codes for aircraft and ground vehicle control, as well as state information acquisition and determination. GlobalData’s report on Rakuten Group gives a 360-degree view of the company including its patenting strategy. Cabify and Polestar sign to deploy 100 BEVs in Barcelona and Madrid
Cabify and Polestar have signed a milestone agreement for the ride-hailing sector in Barcelona and Madrid, which aims to help decarbonize the private hire vehicle (PHV) transportation sector in both cities.
The collaboration will see a fleet of 100 electric cars set on the roads in the two biggest Spanish cities, specifically a fleet of 100 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor Plus units. Fifty vehicles will be launched in each city.
Cabify was last reported on towards the end of 2023, when the company gathered investment to the tune of $110 million to expand to new cities in Latin America and Spain. Madrid was not a new market for the company, but the move is in line with the declared target of fielding 1,400 electric vehicles in Spain “over the next few years.” Cabify writes that it currently “has more than 50 million registered users, 1.5 million driver partners, and more than 1,000 employees globally.”
