South Korea’s SK Telecom Co. will provide its fifth-generation network solutions to Japanese e-commerce conglomerate Rakuten, becoming the first Korean mobile carrier to sell its 5G technology overseas.
Under the agreement, SK Telecom will share with Rakuten its 5G network designs, optimized communication quality solutions and 5G antenna and radio frequency transmission technologies, according to industry sources on Thursday.
Rakuten is Japan’s largest e-commerce operator with annual revenue of more than 1 trillion yen ($9.29 billion). It obtained the license to become Japan’s fourth mobile carrier last year. Through the launch of a new subsidiary, Rakuten Mobile, it plans to release long-term evolution mobile network offerings and roll out 5G services in June 2020.
As a novice in the market, Rakuten Mobile appears to have reached out to Korea’s top mobile carrier for assistance in the entire 5G rollout from network design to installation.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Rakuten Mobile reportedly plans to spend 194.6 billion yen in 5G infrastructure.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has indicated he is open to negotiating with large companies like Uber and Lyft before the law goes into effect on January 1. Uber had suggested establishing a minimum wage for its drivers of $21 an hour as an alternative to the bill's more radical changes, or challenging the law via 2020 ballot initiative. Uber claims that the law does not apply to its drivers and has made clear its intention to defend the position in court.

Millions of Medicaid Patients Now Have Access to Medical Transportation Through Lyft
At Lyft, we’re constantly working to ensure access to transportation doesn’t stand in the way of people getting the healthcare they need. That’s why we are proud to announce our approval to become an enrolled Medicaid provider in Arizona, following new state regulations for non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) - which makes Lyft the first national ridesharing company to bring its transportation solution to millions of Medicaid beneficiaries. We are also actively enrolling and exploring opportunities in other states. For patients, this means Lyft will now be a covered transportation option to get eligible patients to and from medical appointments.
Why Medicaid Programs Are Looking to Lyft
In fact, based on the findings of an American Journal of Public Health study published in March 2019, modernizing NEMT via rideshare could generate cost-savings of $537 million a year when scaled nationally.

Lyft shares are trading higher after the company said it expects to reach profitability on an adjusted Ebitda basis by the fourth quarter of 2021, a year ahead of current Wall Street expectations. Founders Logan Green and John Zimmer made the forecast Tuesday at The Wall Street Journal Technology conference in Laguna Beach, California.

Lyft CEO Logan Green claimed, “We’ve never laid out our path to profitability, and we know that’s a question on a lot of investors’ minds. We’re going to be profitable on an adjusted Ebidta basis a year before analysts expect us to. We’re going to hit this target in Q4 2021.”
Lyft went public at $72 per share, and it touched a record high of $88.6. The stock is currently trading 50% below its 52-week high at $44.2. Lyft has missed earnings estimates over the last two quarters.
Analysts remain optimistic about Lyft stock, though. They have an average target price of $70.5, which is 60% above the current trading price.

Lyft (LYFT)
Ridesharing has disrupted the personal transport industry, and Uber has no lack of copycats. Lyft, based in San Francisco, got its start in 2012 and now operates in 650 cities across the US and Canada. The company holds a 28% market share in the US ridesharing market, making it the largest of Uber’s competitors. In addition to ridesharing, Lyft offers its mobile app customers electric scooters and bicycle sharing in selected markets.
Lyft makes its app available to customers across mobile plans and platforms. Versions are available for Android and iOS, and customers can pay by credit card, PayPal, Google Wallet, or Apple Pay. In the company’s 7 years of operation, it has built up over $3.7 billion in assets, and brings in over $2.1 billion in annual revenue.
RBC’s Mark Mahaney, another of the bank’s TipRanks Top 100 analysts, attended a meet and chat with Lyft’s co-founders earlier this week. Mahaney came away impressed with management’s view of Lyft’s near-term prospects, and noted, “Lyft Co-Founders highlighted that Lyft expects to be profitable on an Adjusted EBITDA basis by Q4:21, a year before the Street estimates positive EBITDA. The company noted they would get to profitability from 1) the market becoming increasingly more rational; 2) the company is now focusing on business travel and high value modes, suggesting they will begin offering more premium services; and 3) product innovations…”
In light of the bumped-up expectations for profitability, Mahaney set a $76 price target on LYFT shares, indicating room for a 74% upside.
