Rakuten Viki is now available on Xiaomi TV in Indonesia, with plans to launch in India in the near future.

Rakuten Viki has partnered with Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics company, to offer Viki’s extensive library of premium television shows and movies through its latest MiTV and MiVideo applications. Beijing-based Xiaomi manufactures or invests in smartphones, mobile apps, laptops, and other consumer electronics.

As part of the partnership, Viki will be pre-installed on all Xiaomi Android smart TVs, and Viki’s library will be accessible to all Xiaomi users. The partnership launched last week in Indonesia, with plans to extend to India in the very near future.
According to Xiaomi, the number of daily active users of Xiaomi smartphones in Indonesia is expected to reach 22 million by the end of 2018.

Ecommerce Company Rakuten Invests $100 Million in Rakuten Medical, Increasing Equity Share to 22.5%
Published: Aug 02, 2019 By Mark Terry

Rakuten Medical was formerly called Aspyrian Therapeutics. Since launching in 2015, it has raised almost $500 million.
The company’s lead program is ASP-1929, which was given Fast Track designation from both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. It is in Phase III clinical trials for recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (rHNSCC). The Phase II trial indicated the therapy had a high response rate in patients who failed existing treatment options.

The company’s technology is made up of a drug and device combination that uses monoclonal antibodies attached to a dye (IRDye 700DX). Using non-thermal red light, it excites the dye, which causes rapid and selective cell death and tumor necrosis with minimal effects to normal tissue. The monoclonal antibodies deliver the dye to the cancer cells.

The company plans to use the additional funds to expand development of the phototherapy program, bolster its business functions and to look for new investigational compounds and indications for its tech platform.

cash equivalents and short-term investments with no debt

Our adjusted EBITDA loss for the second quarter was $204 million compared to a loss of $191 million in the year ago period, and guidance for a loss between $270 million and $280 million. Adjusted EBITDA margins improved significantly to a loss of 24% versus 38% in the prior year, representing a 14 percentage point improvement year-over-year.

As of June 30, Lyft had over $3.3 billion of unrestricted cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments with no debt. As I will describe shortly in our outlook, we believe we have a clear path to profitability so our liquidity position remains extraordinarily strong. To summarize, Q2 was an outstanding quarter that significantly surpassed our guidance on both the top and bottom line. Our results benefited from strong market conditions, organic growth in riders, and the continued expansion of Lyft's transportation platform.

But the numbers will be better from quarter to quarter.

Growth in both active riders and revenue per active rider exceeded our expectations. The number of active riders grew 41% year-over-year to 21.8 million, while revenue per active rider grew 22% year-over-year. As a result of our strong top line growth and an improving market environment, we generated significant operating leverage. This was a milestone quarter on our path to profitability. For more and more of our riders, Lyft is becoming a bigger part of how they get from point A to point B, for more affordable and efficient Shared Saver rides, to bikes that allow our riders to glide pass rush hour traffic, we're rapidly building a world where you can trade in your car keys and ride with Lyft.

We believe that Lyft will be the fastest and most accurate way to compare time and money across all relevant modes of transportation, and frictionlessly complete the transaction. This quarter's results are another significant step toward realizing that long-term vision.

Cross-border trading to Japan from overseas countries is growing rapidly, now. There are some options for overseas merchants to do that, but you cannot move it forward without knowing the situation in Japan. Rakuten has the largest share of E-commerce market in Japan, about 27%.

Global e-commerce sales grew 18% in 2018 to $2.86 trillion, out of a total global retail sales market of $18.84 trillion, achieving 15.2% market share. E-commerce is still in the early stages globally with penetration rates growing about 2% per year. So by end 2025 we can estimate we may reach about 30% market share if the same growth rate continues. Certainly emerging Asia has a large catch up potential.

Depending on how you measure it the top five global leaders in online shopping are Amazon (AMZN), JD.com (JD), Alibaba (BABA), eBay (EBAY), and Japan's Rakuten (OTCPK:RKUNF). Next comes Brazil's B2W Companhia Digital (OTC:BZWHF), Germany's Zalando (OTCPK:ZLNDY), and Groupon (GRPN).

Spanish startup Glovo, which allows smartphone users to order any product and have it delivered, will invest EUR 3 million in Romania by the end of this year, thus doubling the investments already made in the country since launching local operations in May 2018, Ziarul Financiar reported.

The Glovo app is currently available in five cities – Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi and Brasov – but by the end of this year it will also become available in Constanta Craiova, Galati, Bacau, Oradea, Sibiu, Ploiesti and Pitesti. For smaller cities, Glovo will use a marketplace model, allowing restaurants that have their own delivery service to use the platform, according to Glovo Romania general manager Victor Racariu.

In the first year of operations in Romania, Glovo delivered 1.8 million products. Most of the orders were for food and the preferred products were kebap (shaorma) – 510,000 products delivered, burgers – 380,000, and fries – 330,000. The “anything” category, which allows users to order diverse products from any store, was used for 130,000 orders, which included fashion items, gadgets, sports items or decorations.

Legendary investor Warren Buffett advises to be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. One way we can try to measure the level of fear in a given stock is through a technical analysis indicator called the Relative Strength Index, or RSI, which measures momentum on a scale of zero to 100. A stock is considered to be oversold if the RSI reading falls below 30.

In trading on Tuesday, shares of Lyft Inc (Symbol: LYFT) entered into oversold territory, hitting an RSI reading of 28.2, after changing hands as low as $46.25 per share. By comparison, the current RSI reading of the S&P 500 ETF ( SPY ) is 48.1. A bullish investor could look at LYFT's 28.2 RSI reading today as a sign that the recent heavy selling is in the process of exhausting itself, and begin to look for entry point opportunities on the buy side.
