“What the Uber and Lyft trading performance is telling us is the market’s kind of starting to realize the value of the technology that goes into building these marketplaces,” Yandex CFO Greg Abovsky told CNBC’s Geoff Cutmore Thursday.
“What people have realized is that the competitive dynamics between the two won’t always be this intense, that over time it will subside.”
He added: “What will all of a sudden materialize is that you have two very large, very established players providing very unique services.”

How is Rakuten disrupting the status quo in the mobile communications market and what’s your ultimate vision for the services you can provide?
AMIN: Our approach to our mobile offering is based on three key principles – it is content rich; customer-experience driven; and software-centric. This is very different from a traditional CSP (communications services provider) which tends to be focused on selling connectivity first. We are offering an experience that isn’t just about our mobile network or about voice, text and data.
Our experience ties into the content leadership in our ecosystem, our membership-based business model and our concept of customer affiliation. No CSP has the kind of ecosystem we have developed or the idea that a customer is a member with a digital ID within that ecosystem that enables this very powerful.

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) — Lyft became the third operator to launch e-scooters in San Jose Thursday, but was also the first to be officially permitted under the city’s new regulations set to go into effect July 1.
“We’re thrilled to bring Lyft Scooters to San Jose and provide a quick, affordable and sustainable way to move around – all within a single app,” said Lyft Northern California Market Manager Jake Darby in an email to KPIX 5.
“Lyft is committed to a future where cities are built around people instead of private cars — and Lyft scooters can play a key role in furthering this movement locally here in San Jose,” said Darby.

Rakuten is manifesting all the radical change that experts say needs to be made in telecom in order to be agile, innovative and competitive in the digital age: virtualization, mobile edge computing, closed-loop automation, microservices, continuous innovation/continuous development and delivery (CI/CD) and more. When the company official launches its LTE service in October, the industry will begin to assess the merits of a cloud-native strategy and determine how quickly they must follow.
