Rakuten wesentlich besser als Rocket
April 12, 2017
Ride-hailing services company Lyft attracted a number of new investors in its latest round of fundraising, including famed private equity firm KKR (kkr-co-l-p), AllianceBernstein (AWF, +0.30%), Baillie Gifford, and Canada’s Public Sector Pension Investment Board.
Existing investors Rakuten (RKUNF, -1.18%) and Janus Capital (JNS, +0.00%) returned to participate in the round that closed at $600 million in new capital with a $7.5 billion post-money valuation.

"The firm is struggling to compete with two American rivals, which along with Rakuten dominate the e-commerce market in Japan. Amazon is reckoned by the Japan External Trade Organisation to be number one in online sales, with 20.2% market share compared with Rakuten’s 20.1%. Yahoo Japan has a share of 8.9%."
"Amazon entered Japan in 2000, but it remains slightly less popular than Japanese e-commerce leader Rakuten, which was founded in 1997. Last April, research firm DI Marketing found that 70.2% of online consumers used Rakuten, compared to 66.7% for Amazon Japan.
Amazon Prime also isn't a huge hit in Japan. NTTCom Research claims that just 16.6% of Amazon users in Japan are Prime members. By comparison, 63% of Amazon customers in the US are Prime members, according to research firm CIRP's latest numbers.
This makes it harder for Amazon to sell Prime ecosystem-building products like Echo, which it launched in Japan last November."

Und mit den folgden Werten

kann Rakuten im E-Commerce-Geschäft durchaus zufrieden sein.
ICH jedenfalls habe verstanden :-)

- Enables effective measurement of online advertising conversions at brick-and-mortar stores -
Tokyo, April 5, 2018
RMP - Go! Spot utilizes various channels and Rakuten ID-based data to make possible location-targeted advertisements designed to inform users of special offers and campaigns taking place at brick-and-mortar stores in their vicinity. The effectiveness of the promotions can then be measured by visitor numbers or other data gathered at the store. Grounded in analysis of big data gleaned from Rakuten’s points rewards app “Super Point Screen” and the store visitation points rewards app “Rakuten Check,” the new service allows not only effective promotional campaigns but also valuable insights into users’ offline activity that can contribute to improving O2O marketing strategies.
