On a regional level, 10 million orders were transacted on Online Marketplaces, while 1.4 million nights were booked through Online Travel Agent sites. A total of one million pieces of clothing were bought by users from ShopBack in the countries it operates in, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia.

This bodes well for ShopBack, which has been seeing what they claim as “hyper-growth” this year. “Compared to 2H18, we observed that there is an increment of 77% in terms of Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) generated through our platform in 1H19. Given the positive outlook and strong online shopping interest found among local shoppers, we are confident that 2H19 will grow even better with the launch of ShopBack ShopFest,” Han says.

Monday after Citi Research analyst Itay Michaeli upgraded the ride-hailing stock to buy from neutral. He said the company's upcoming third-quarter results "could provide a window to refocus the story on improving fundamentals" now that investors have a better understanding about the timeline and potential scenarios around California's AB5 law concerning gig-economy workers. "With revenue growth also expected to accelerate in H2, the Q3 earnings report could be enough to swing forward sentiment more favorably to some extent, even as overhangs like AB5 and the lock-up persist," Michaeli wrote.

NEW YORK—The de Blasio Administration joined Lyft to today announce the boundaries of the planned expansion of Citi Bike over the next five years, which will bring the nation's largest bike share system to a larger and more economically diverse range of communities. Last November, the City and Lyft announced an agreement in which Lyft would invest $100 million to grow and strengthen the system, doubling the size of its service area and tripling the number of bikes over the next five years. The third phase of Citi Bike's expansion will bring Citi Bike to all of Manhattan, as well as into the Bronx, and deeper into Brooklyn and Queens.

Rakuten And Prodege Team Up For Card-Linked Rewards
By PYMNTS
Posted on October 8, 2019

Rakuten In Store Network, an advertising platform to help push in-store sales and traffic with rewards programs linked to cards, has announced a partnership with engagement platform Prodege to increase its card-linked offers and allow for Prodege members to get gift cards and cash back when shopping at certain retailers.

“Offering in-store rewards to our Swagbucks, MyPoints, ShopAtHome and InboxDollars members is a natural extension of our online rewards business,” said Prodege CEO and Chairman Chuck Davis.

The move helps to greatly increase the reach of Rakuten In Store Network, which already has 30,000 locations around the country.

Prodege has a slew of websites that give members free gift cards and cash for simply doing things online. With its engagement of a global audience of 100 million people, Prodege aids merchants and helps them to meet their marketing goals as well as attract new and return customers with loyalty options.

Rakuten In Store Network also reaches millions, and it helps merchants to grow sales, loyalty and traffic in stores. Rakuten In Store Network is under the umbrella of Cash Back rewards outfit Rakuten, and its library of card-linked offers.

Enabling Merchants to Give Time Back to Shoppers
Posted by: Jaron Waldman / June 24, 2019

Consumers expect speed and convenience in shopping, and they’re more than happy to pick up at a store or restaurant themselves, when home delivery isn’t good enough. For merchants, offering up a seamless pickup experience is the secret ingredient to connecting with these mobile, on-the-go consumers, and to unlocking the tremendous pent-up opportunity of ordering-ahead. And it’s been our mission since Curbside’s founding.

Mobile is increasingly dominating e-commerce, expected to drive nearly 70% of all e-commerce – or $2.3T in 2019 alone1. Ordering Ahead is growing. According to Rakuten Intelligence, Order-ahead & Pick-up reached $27.2 billion in sales in 2018. And this market will only become more mobile.

Enabling mobile order-ahead with pickup, offers convenience for the customer and far better economics for the merchant. Saving final-mile delivery costs can mean keeping the 20% margin that you might otherwise give up.

BY RAMESH MANTHA • OCTOBER 10, 2019PRODUCT AND FEATURES

Kobo’s open platform is one of the reasons our users choose to read with us. We believe reading should be limitless—that readers shouldn’t be tied down by the functionality of eReaders or file formats. Kobo Libra H2O: why we need reading now more than ever
BY MICHAEL TAMBLYN • OCTOBER 09, 2019CORNER OFFICE

This year has been a milestone for Rakuten Kobo and we’re celebrating on a number of fronts.
It’s our tenth anniversary this year, which has kicked off a lot of celebrations and reflections on what we know now that we didn’t know then, some of the way-off-the-mark decisions we made along the way, some of the really great ones, and how much the landscape of reading and books has changed.
And, we’ve just launched our newest eReader, the Kobo Libra H2O, which is, I am happy to report, one of our best-selling devices ever. It is designed, like everything we do, to make reading lives better. It’s worth taking a little time to talk about why - why a new eReader now. Why not all reading is the same. And why we need reading now more than ever.

Plugging-in Rakuten's financial figures into my DCF template, the company's shares appear to be heavily undervalued. Under perpetuity growth method with a terminal growth rate of 2 percent, steady 16 percent annual revenue growth rate assumption, constant 17 percent EBIT margin, fair value of the stock comes at 4396 JPY (~ 41 USD). Under the EBITDA multiple approaches of a discounted cash flow model, the intrinsic per share value of the company stands roughly at 4630 JPY (~43 USD) if we assume that the appropriate exit EV/EBITDA multiple in five years' time is around 10x (currently 6x).

Why you should start listening to audiobooks
BY KOBO • OCTOBER 09, 2019THE BOOKISH LIFE

Audiobook listening is on the rise, and for good reason. It’s one of the fastest-growing segments of the publishing world, as more and more readers are pressing play and reading with their ears.

Nearly every pocket or purse contains a device capable of playing audiobooks, for a quick literary escape. The Kobo app on Android and iPhone puts your audiobook collection at your fingertips, allowing you to listen anywhere, any time. Coupled with the podcast boom, people are getting into the habit of downloading and listening to serialized spoken content on their phones.

Good for your mental health
According to the Audiobook Publishers Association and Edison Research, 73% of audiobook consumers agree that listening to audiobooks is relaxing. And 55% of readers agree or strongly agree that they listen to an audiobook when they want some time to themselves.

These two stats are huge.

Rakuten Inc. and Rewards Network have launched a dining discount program called Rakuten Dining. Those enrolling in the program are eligible to receive 5% cash back on meals at more than 10,000 U.S. restaurants, a news release said.

Currently, Rakuten Dining is only available for Apple devices via the iOS version of the Rakuten app, but the company said it will later be accessible to Android users. Customers can earn the discount when they link and use a personal credit or debit card in the app at participating restaurants. The cash returned on purchases is automatically accrued and then paid out quarterly.

"This collaboration will drive more visits to restaurants and create immediate scale for Rakuten Dining and our everyday rewards program," Rakuten Americas and Rakuten Rewards CEO Amit Patel, said in the release.

Rakuten said in the release that over the past 20 years, it has paid out more than $1.5 billion in cash back on purchases from thousands of retailers and is the largest such loyalty program in existence.
