THE Autonomous Bougainville Government vice president Ezekiel Massat
was one of the 29 candidates who nominated in their constituencies
yesterday.
Mr Massat is also the Information and Culture Minister and nominated
in a low-key ceremony, accompanied by his guards and officers in the
Peit Constituency seat.
Bougainville�s radio guru, Peter Sohia, also nominated for the
Hagogohe constituency. Woman representative for North Bougainville
seat Anastasia Lapointe was among these candidates that nominated in
Buka yesterday.

Town mayor and businessman Leo Kehali also nominated yesterday for the
Hagogohe Constituency seat including the current sitting MP Marceline
Getsi under the ex-combatants seat for north Bougaivnille.

Returning officers for north Bougainville yesterday released that
about 29 candidates nominated yesterday from 16 recorded since the
issue of Writs last Friday.
The total number of candidates that have nominated in Buka under the
constituency, ex-combatants and women�s representative seats stands at
45.

Yesterday was day three of the nomination period. Nominations will
close on April 2.

In central Bougainville, more than 15 candidates were recorded in
Arawa and reports are sketchy on the members.
For South Bougainville as of close of business yesterday more than 10
candidates had nominated in constituency seats including women and
ex-combatant seats.
More candidates were expected today and until the close of nominations
in north, central and south Bougainville.

A total of 74 candidates have nominated for the Bougainville general elections since writs were issued last Friday.

Five candidates have nominated for the Presidential seat and more are expected before nominations close this Friday.

The presidential candidates are current President, James Tanis, the first woman candidate Magdalen Toroansi, Reuben Siara, John Momis and Martin Miriori.

In the constituency seats, three candidates have nominated for the Terra seat in Wakunai. They are the sitting member Leo Reivasi as well as Justin Kungkam and former kiap Jacob Rerevate.

In the Southern Region, three nominations have been received for the Kopii seat in Siwai, one for the Ramu seat and five for the Motuna Huyono seat also in the Siwai district.

Only one nomination has been received for the Bolave seat in Bana district from a candidate who nominated at the Electoral Commission Office in Lae.

Five women have so far nominated to run in the election, although more are expected in coming days.

The five are Magdalen Toroansi, Elizabeth Sukina in the Kopii seat in the Siwai district currently held by Michael Komoiki, and three in the Northern Region women’s seat - Hona Holand, Cecily Kiots Kekun and Anastasia Lapointe.

In the Northern Region 56 nominations have been received including three for the women’s seat and two for the Ex-Combatants’ Seat.

The two candidates that have nominated for the Ex-Combatants are Franco Hoppin and sitting member Marcellin G Laris.

Five candidates have nominated for Suir, five for Selau, three for the Atolls, five for Peit, ten for Haku, four for Halia, two for Tonsu, three for Tsitalato, five for Hagogohe, three for Taunita/Tinputz and two for Taunita/Teop.

By close of nominations we will know and be able to provide the names of all candidates.

THE second ABG presidential election in the Buin district of south Bougainville is moving at a snail’s pace.
Since the issue of writs last Friday, only seven candidates have nominated to contest the various constituency and regional seats of Buin district. Out of these seven candidates, one has nominated to contest the south Bougainville regional woman’s seat, three for the Makis constituency seat while the other three candidates will be contesting the Konnou constituency seat. In the Makis constituency seat, sitting member and former Communications Minister in the then Kabui/Tabinaman government Jeffery Nabuai nominated on Monday to defend his seat while John Pisiai and Joe Bailou nominated yesterday to try to unseat Mr Nabuai. Leo Paupau, Willie Masiu and another candidate have already nominated for the Konnou constituency seat, while Rose Pihei is the only candidate that has already nominated to contest the south Bougainville regional women’s seat currently held by Minister for Women Affairs Laura Ampa. However, according to the assistant returning officer for the Buin district, Mathew Mau, many candidates have already indicated that they will be coming in to nominate today and tomorrow.
Mr Mau added that he is expecting many more candidates to nominate before the close of nominations this Friday.

236 candidates nominate for general election

Nominations for the 40-seat Bougainville House of Representatives closed on Friday but final lists of candidates have not yet reached the Returning Officer in Buka due to communication difficulties.

According to Returning Officer George Tarara, he expects to receive the final figures from Central and South Bougainville today.

By yesterday afternoon, 236 candidates had nominated for the 40 seats.

In all, seven candidates have nominated for the presidential seat. They are current President James Tanis, Reuben Siara, John Momis, Martin Miriori, Robert Atsir, Sylvester Niu and the only woman candidate, Magdalene Itona Toroansi.

The seat of Haku on Buka Island has 20 candidates, the highest number of any constituency.

Two women have nominated to contest constituency seats in South Bougainville whilst 19 women will contest the three preserved seats for women in the House of Representatives.

......dass auch diesmal,wie in den vorhergehenden Wahlen der "Elderchief" im Wahlkampf überzeugt werden muss u. dann der gesamte Clan seine Stimmen einem Kandidaten gibt,so dürften die Chancen von dem aktuellen Präsidenten u. Befürworter der Wiedereröffnung der Pangunamine James Tanis ausnehmend gut stehen.

So gewann Kabui die vorletzte Wahl mit rd. 32000 Stimmen.Wenn ein Grossteil der 20000  Pangunaanwohner wie erwartet  für Tanis stimmen u. die übrigen Bewohner B' villes ihre Stimmen auf die restlichen 6 Kandidaten aufteilen so erscheint ein Sieg von Tanis sehr wahrscheinlich ;-)))))))  

....auf Basis der aktuellen Rohstoffpreise ergibt sich folgendes Bild:

Bei insgesamt rund 400 mio. Aktien und 1 Mrd. t Reserven sind das 2,5 Tonnen je Aktie. Unterstellt man 0,33% Kupfer pro Tonne bzw. 0,37g Gold/Tonne so kommt man auf 8,25 kg Kupfer/Aktie b. 0,925g Gold/Aktie. Bei aktuellen Marktpreisen von USD 1136/Oz und USD 8000/Tonne kommt man auf USD 66/Aktie für Kupfer und USD 33,7/Aktie für Gold. Insgesamt macht das USD 99,7/Aktie oder EUR 74,7/Aktie.

Damit werden die Reserven an der Börse mit 0,455% bewertet. Als grobe Daumenregel werden im Markt üblicherweise 8% angesetzt. Das daraus resultierende Kurspotential – allein bis zum Abschluss der Neuverhandlungen über ein neues BCA - kann sich jeder selbst ausrechnen (Silber, Moly und 7 weitere Lizenzen unberücksichtigt).

Was wir jetzt brauchen sind die Wahlen der Landowner und Tanis als wiedergewählter Präsident. Dann kann mit dem Beginn der BCA-Verhandlungen endlich der Startknopf gedrückt werden....

Wenn man weiß, bei welchen Preisen die Mine höchst-profitabel ist, dann treibt auch ein deutlich niedriger Kupferpreis nur Unwissenden die ein oder andere Schweißperle auf die Stirn. ;)

Mal sehen ob nach den verbleibenden 122 k das ASK wieder aufgefüllt wird oder ob die ADR Emittenten mit dem VK der nicht getauschten ADRs nun fertig sind ;-)))

 

Mich würde es wundern, wenn es das schon war mit dem VK durch den/die Emittenten, aber who knows.

Unangenehm finde ich die Sache mit den Landeignern und den anderen Störfeuern von den Mädels vor Ort... ;)

....dass es noch einiges an Gerangel unter den Landownern gibt, ist zwar nicht wirklich traumhaft. Aber ich denke, dass wichtigste ist jetzt erst mal, dass Tanis gewinnt. Wenn ihm das gelingt, dann kann er sich höchstpersönlich um die Landowner kümmern. Eines ist eh klar, 100% Zustimmung wird er nie bekommen, aber vielleicht kann er einen Komopromiss moderieren, mit dem jeder leben kann.

Und da die Landowner damit kurzfristig nicht mehr wählen werden, müssen wir ohnehin die Wahlen, Vereidigung des Präsidenten, Regierungsbildung abwarten. Eine Einladung für die BCA-Verhandlungen wäre also wahrscheinlich vor Juli/August eh nicht möglich.

Drücken wir Tanis die Daumen!!!

...und dass den ADR-Banken langsam das Material ausgeht. Immherin, wir wissen woher die Stücke kommen. Und derjenige, der die rund 5-6 Mio Stücke abgenommen hat, wird schon seine Gründe für seine Käufe haben...

The Bougainville general election has taken a turn for the worse with another man being shot dead in political related violence.

Chief Francis Mona called on President James Tanis to immediately address the worsening law and order situation in the Konnou area of Buin district in south Bougainville.
The chief left his village following raids by Mekamui rebels, saying the problems need to be addressed before more deaths happen.

Mona said the Konnou people had been living in fear for too long and the government must address the law and order situation once and for all.

He said the Mekamui faction had killed many innocent people while talking peace and the latest killing would stop people from voting in the coming general election.

Mona said if the ABG is not capable of containing the situation, outside assistance should be called in.

A total of 40 seats are up for grabs in the election: 33 single constituency seats; three seats for women; three seats for former combatants and one extra seat for the President who is voted for directly by the people.

Polling starts on May 7 and ends two weeks later.

To me the known Panguna copper-gold-silver resource, stands high on
Bougainville"s "Resource Inventory" and Panguna deposit should indeed be on top of
the "resource inventory" for the ABG. It's an assesst if Bougianville plays
it's "cards well" could bring back the stand of living Bougainvilleans once have and
one Bougainville deprive it's on children and young mothers. Panguna is an assest that
could propel Bougainville well infront it's road to economic recovery, regain some
economic independence and hopefully political independence.

Also agreed with number of your commentatries, stating development is not a "crystal
clear", development as we all appreciate must have some scarifices, there must be
some "pain". Having said that we as custodians to todays environment (physical or
social) must be also consensus that we all have only one environment, one earth, one
life. In the period of that one life we all have I hope we conribute in our own way the
love of our environment for future lives.

At end day it's all about balancing issues."

"The "finances" of Governing Bougainville (i.e. the ABG which insists on having about half a dozen times as many public servants and politicians per head of population than the mainland) are approximately K5M Of local revenue (taxes, fees etc). and about K120M in aid. There is likely to come a point where the donors of that aid, will start to lose interest in providing it, particular as it tends to fund "We will do it" half completed projects, which more often than not, end up with money in the pocket of the wantok of the person signing off on the deal. (Suprisingly, there is a whole bunch more aid money out there, but the cumbersome bureacracy of the ABG lacks the knowledge, worldliness, and negotiating prowess to bring in any of that "other" aid money.

As Lawrence has pointed out, the currently proposed re-evaluation of the BCA based on figures a while back, would have some K600M per year (in taxes and royalties) going into the Bougainville economy. That is without the side benefits such as jobs, support industries, fairer prices for imported goods, and so on.

And of course, there is the talk of environmental impact. I am often bemused by the people that complained about BCL, which maintained a team of scientists to monitor and manage environmental impact, and insisted themselves that rehabilitation was part of the BCA. It's so easy to forget the $100M tunnel that was being dug to allow the Jaba to be cleared of sendiment and so on.

As Eric says... Give me an alternative?  The only foreseeable one is one where there is no education, no roads, no health care, no law and order. Please explain, Ms Ona, the relative benefits of that. Ms Ona, sounds remarkably like a Vikki John Mouthpiece.

The true indication of a public representative (President or Minister) that is committed to the people of Bougainville is one that will do what ever is needed to fast track bringing Panguna back on line. Given the rampant and unnecessary destruction by Ms Ona's relatives and others, this is not an easy task - 3-5 years of work, to get production running again (During which time, there are lots of jobs etc), and a couple of Billion dollars.  The sooner this gets started, the sooner, bougainvilleans can feel comfortable, that they have law and order, education, health care, and general prosperity.

There have been some peripheral ideas thrown around regarding other revenue sources - none of them are on the scale that is needed (Palm Oil, lumber). We have seen the fly by nighters (INvincible, Kauona, Atsir, Musingku etc, ) come and go, talk lots of Mauswara, and nothing happens. It's time to pull the finger out, and vote for Prosperity on Bougainville. (All of it, not just the Valley either side of Panguna). "  

In den vergangenen 12 Monaten wurden in AU insgesamt 10,451,598 BCL Shares umgesetzt,davon alleine in diesem Jahr schon 7,440,511 St.

Interessant daran dass es immer wieder Käufer gibt  in der Grössenordnung von 1000,500,300,220 etc. K.
Das sind wohl keine Kleinanleger die mit solchen Summen einsteigen.;-))))))))))

Wurde in den vergangenen Monaten das ASK von den ADR Emittenten jeweils immer wieder mit 1 Mill. St aufgefüllt,so waren es heute nur noch 600K .Gut möglich dass wir demnächst die Bloomberg Meldung sehen dass die BoNY mit den Verkäufen fertig ist ;-)))

RT hat die Zusammenarbeit mit China verstärkt, durch den preiswerten Verkauf - 1,35 Mrd. $ Kaufpreis - eines 47% Anteils an einem der größten Erzlagerstätten weltweit, mit geschätzten 2Milliarden Tonnen Eisenerz.
Der Preis pro Tonne Eisenerz liegt z.Z. bei 120 US $ die Tonne. China hat mit dem Kaufpreis von 1,35 Mrd. $ die Reserven im Boden mit 1,44 US $ pro Tonne gekauft also mit 1,2 % des Wertes der Rohstoffe im Boden.

Von Europa aus ist doch sowieso nicht einschätzbar, was die Menschen auf Bougainville denken.
Und ob sie für oder gegen Bergbau auf Bougainville sind, werden sie bei den kommenden Wahlen entscheiden können, bei denen der Bergbau zum ersten Mal ein wichtiges Thema ist.

Die wenigen Monate kann man problemlos abwarten und sollte man auch. Und falls die Menschen vor Ort sich gegen Bergbau aussprechen, so haben wir hier das genauso zu akzeptieren, wie die Gegner des Bergbaus es zu akzeptieren haben, falls die Bergbaufreunde sich durchsetzen. So ist das in einer echten Demokratie.

Ich gehöre zu den Bergbaufreunden.  
Der Hintergrund : Rohstoffe werden zur Zeit wegen der US amerikanischen Geldfälschung auch als Vermögensersatz genutzt und sind deshalb im Preis weit höher, als bei rein industrieller Nutzung. Keiner weiß, wie lange dieses US amerikanische Handeln und die resultierende Wirkung auf die Rohstoffpreise noch anhält.

Wahrscheinlich wird der Zustand noch einige Jahre andauern, da das mit Hilfe der Rating Agenturen betrogene Vertrauen auf absehbare Zeit verhindert, daß wieder Kredite aus der ganzen Welt Richtung US Finanz gegeben werden.

Wegen der Rohstoffreserven der Panguna Mine ist das eine einmalige Chance für die Menschen auf Bougainville, da der Bergbau für eine selbständige Republik Bougainville bedeutet, viele Jahre der Entwicklung im Bereich Arbeitsplätze, Infrastruktur, Schulen, Krankenhäuser,... zu überspringen.

man muss und hat das zu akzeptieren, was die Menschen dort selbst bestimmen,
denn es ihr Land,
nicht BCL-Land,
und erst recht nicht ESBC-Land,

das Risiko des eigenen Investments musste (und muss) jeder selbst einschätzen,
