[I-bank focus] Goldman lifts GCL-Poly (03800) TP to HK$3.6
Goldman Sachs lifted its target price for GCL-
Poly (03800) to HK$3.6 from HK$2.7, and maintained its "buy" rating. Its EPS forecasts
for 2010-2012 are Rmb0.20/0.29/0.40.
GCL-Poly is targeting to become the largest wafer manufacturer in the world. The
research house expects GCL to add 10,000 MT more of silicon capacity and 1.5GW wafer
capacity in 2011, which could bring volume growth outlook of 149% yoy.
In addition, continuing prepayment commitments from its major customers should help GCL
secure some source of funding for 2011 capex.
As GCL-Poly aggressively adds more low-cost based poly/wafer capacity, Goldman sees
stronger wafer price competition ahead, especially in 2H11 while more low-cost based
silicon/wafer will be effectively available. (KL)

GCL-Poly and LDK extends battle to strategic alliances and Taiwan solar cell market Nuying Huang, Taipei; Willie Teng, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 14 December 2010]
As more players enter the solar arena and companies continue to ramp up capacity, strategic integrations and alliances have become critical for success, particularly in the China market. China-based upstream solar material producer LDK Solar has announced an alliance with BYD, while fellow material supplier GCL-Poly is reportedly in talks with Taiwan's Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) about cooperation in renewable energy and LED applications. Taiwan-based solar cell makers are expected to benefit from the alliances as both China-based companies believe that Taiwan, a major solar producer, is a market that cannot be taken lightly, according to sources from the solar industry.
Competition between LDK and GCL-Poly began in 2009 when LDK's polycrystalline silicon (poly-si) production lines went online, and then it intensified after GCL-Poly expanded downstream to solar wafers and the system end.
Unlike GCL-Poly, which announced that it will not manufacture solar cells, LDK entered the solar cell sector in 2010 but the company indicated that cell capacity is strictly for its own solar system operations and not to compete with solar cell clients.
The two China-based companies have extended their battle to Taiwan, which is one of the world's main bases of solar cell manufacturing. LDK signed long-term supply contracts with most Taiwan-based solar cell makers in 2008, and had a market share lead, but with the wafer shortage in 2010, GCL-Poly was able to gain ground in the Taiwan market.
In October 2010, LDK announced a two-year poly-Si supply agreement worth US$300 million with electric car battery company BYD. BYD plans to invest CNY22.5 billion (US$3.38 billion) to build a 5GWp solar cell plant in Shaanxi, China. LDK and BYD look to be joining forces to become a vertically integrated giant.
GCL-Poly and Foxconn's possible alliance could form a similarly complementary partnership. With Foxconn's experience and cost management in manufacturing, the alliance should help GCL-Poly in module and system production and provide Foxconn a piece of the solar energy market.

Solarfun
JaSolar
außerdem noch 350 MW an Neosolar bis 2013 verkauft!
California, United States -- Amsolar Corporation and GCL Solar Energy announced their commitment to develop solar projects at schools throughout the United States together. Under a Program Agreement signed this month, GCL Solar Energy intends to fund 20 megawatts (MW) of Amsolar's solar energy projects.
The first project funded under this partnership is a 1.2-MW solar energy system at the University of San Diego, which will break ground later this month.
Amsolar and GCL said that they are actively working with public school districts, as well as private educational institutions throughout the United States. Together, the companies will collectively develop solar power plants under long-term power purchase agreements. This model will allow schools to implement solar energy programs without making an up-front investment themselves.
The first project funded under this partnership is a 1.2-MW solar energy system at the University of San Diego, which will break ground later this month.
"We created Amsolar in an effort to bring more solar power to more educational institutions in the United States. Our growing pipeline of projects and this announcement with GCL speak to Amsolar's ability to understand the marketplace and develop customized solutions that resonate with school leaders nationally," said Joshua Weinstein, Amsolar's managing partner.
Nächster Vertrag über 5,5 Gigawatt an GCL. Dieses Mal von Time Infrastructure!
Somit geordert bis 2015:
10 GW JaSolar
2,5 GW Solarfun
0,35 GW Neosolar
5,5 GW Time Infrastructure
= 18,35 Gigawatt!

LDK stellt 15.000 T Silizum pro Jahr her und GCL 21.000 T
LDK stellt 2,9 GW Wafer her und GCL immerhin 3,5 Gigawatt

10 GW JaSolar
2,5 GW Solarfun
0,35 GW Neosolar
5,5 GW Time Infrastructure

[I-bank focus] Citi ups GCL-Poly Energy (3800) TP to HK$3.65
Citigroup raised its target price for GCL-Poly
Energy (03800) to HK$3.65 from HK$3.18, and maintained ita "buy" call.
The house said GCL-Poly is looking to increase its production scale in both polysilicon
and wafer after signing long-term customer contracts.
With a faster wafer capacity ramp-up and higher shipments, GCL-Poly's sales should rise
37.5% yoy in 2011 amid ASP pressure on its customers, Citi said.
It expects GCL-Poly to announce capacity expansion in the next few weeks, with plans to
add at least 10,000MT new poly-silicon and 1GW wafer capacity in 2011. After reaching
3.5GW wafer capacity, its production cost should gradually improve on better yield and the
scale to meet larger orders from both China and India customers. (KL)
