François Couperin schildert Forquerays Violenstücke als "superbe, schwierige, aggressive, Willen und Kampf ausdrückende Kunst". Darin sei kein Takt, keine Phrase ohne Schwierigkeit, ohne Höchstanforderung an den Interpreten. Ohne Zweifel erreicht die Viola durch Forqueray ihren Höhepunkt.
