Currencycloud, the leading international payment platform, today announced the launch of South Korea’s first remittance service by a non-bank, following its strategic partnership with the country’s leading credit card company, Hyundai Card.
The news builds on Currencycloud’s momentum in Asia-Pacific, with the UK-headquartered fintech signing 14 partnerships in the region in the past year and growing the volume of payments in the region by 66% in the past year since Q1 2017.
These partnerships include agreements to process business payments between the West and China with X-Transfer and to deliver local payouts in Europe with Geoswift. A strategic partnership has also been signed with EasyPay to facilitate the collections process for Hong Kong merchant service providers.

Tokyo, July 18, 2018 – Rakuten LIFULL STAY, Inc., the Rakuten Group’s vacation rental service provider, and WAQOO Co., Ltd., which operates a temple stay*1 portal site and reservation site, today announced that the two companies have agreed to form a business partnership to operate and promote temple lodgings as accommodation options for domestic and international travelers.
Through the partnership, Rakuten LIFULL STAY and WAQOO will collaborate to promote the sale of temple lodgings around Japan as accommodation with the aim of promoting historical temples and shrines and enouraging regional revitalization. As part of the partnership, WAQOO will carry out the renovation and maintenance of traditional temple lodging properties to make them more accessible to travelers, and will make them available for booking through the its “Terahaku” temple lodgings booking site. Rakuten LIFULL STAY will also offer the lodgings through its vacation rental and shared accommodation reservation site “Vacation STAY”, in addition to carry out the operation of the facilities, such as creating house manuals at WAQOO’s request and sales management.

E-commerce giant Rakuten Inc. says it has reached a capital alliance agreement with restaurant search business Gurunavi Inc. as it looks to strengthen its foothold in the growing online reservation market.
Rakuten said Monday it will buy Gurunavi shares worth ¥4 billion currently held by Gurunavi Chairman Hisao Taki and acquire a stake of 9.6 percent. The transaction is to be completed Aug. 22.
Through the alliance, Rakuten hopes to develop new services and products using customer data collected by Gurunavi. The two companies’ customer loyalty programs will also be gradually integrated to enhance services for each other’s customers and member stores, Rakuten said.

The 2017 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors are the first NBA team to launch an account on the messaging platform Rakuten Viber, it was announced today. The Warriors will use Rakuten Viber to communicate directly with fans on a global scale, including through tools such as a chat bot available in multiple languages, a free sticker pack and weekly trivia contests with exclusive prizes for fans.
The Warriors’ chat bot will provide fans with instant access to schedule information, standings, team news, team videos, tickets and live in-game score updates. It is currently available in the following 10 languages, including the native languages of Warriors center Zaza Pachulia (Georgian) and Warriors forward Omri Casspi (Hebrew) beginning today:

Japan’s Rakuten has announced a series of initiatives to support its vision for a “One Delivery” end-to-end logistics service.
In a statement issued today (17 July), Rakuten explained that its One Delivery vision “aims to further accelerate the expansion of its comprehensive logistics service for merchants on the Rakuten Ichiba marketplace, from storage to delivery, and ensure a smooth process for the customer, from placing an order on the online marketplace through to receiving the product”.
Rakuten said that will both expand its network of fulfilment centres, and also increase efficiency within the fulfilment “through measures such as increased automation, reduction of labour requirements and inventory optimization by using order forecasting created with the use of Rakuten purchasing data and AI technology”.
On the expansion front, Rakuten is looking to both increase the capacity of its existing fulfilment centers in Ichikawa, Chiba and Kawanishi, Hyogo, and to build new centres. Rakuten is planning to sign an agreement with Japan GLP to lease the entire floor of its large logistics facility GLP Nagareyama II and part of the space at GLP Hirakata III.
The company added: “Rakuten EXPRESS, Rakuten’s self-operated door-to-door delivery service, aims to expand its coverage area to all major cities of Japan.
