Copper specialists Bloomsbury Mineral Economics believe that we can expect copper prices to reach $9,000 a tonne within the next two years.

In a presentation at Mining Journal's 20:20 Copper Day in London, Chris Welch of copper specialist analytical service, Bloomsbury Mineral Economics (BME), made a strong case for copper reaching $9,000 a tonne - $4.08 a pound - by 2009. Given that BME has a great track record on copper price predictions such a prediction should not be taken lightly!

The premise behind the prediction is that the supply gap is continually underestimated by many analysts and factors which should be built into their pricing models are often excluded. Notably Welch feels that mine production is invariably over-estimated, and the figures also do not take into account the amount of copper or concentrate which is, at any given time, tied up in working stocks, and material in transit and being processed.

This effectively means that even if, for example, metal production moves into a small surplus, as is possible in 2008, the amount that is actually available to the market is somewhat less than this and helps maintains the copper price at current levels.

The stock low point is likely to occur late this year, but copper availability is still likely to be in commercial deficit through 2008 and 2009 and may achieve balance in 2010. This is the basis for the BME price prediction of $9,000 copper by the end of 2009.

This scenario - or at least the general overestimation of copper mine production by analysts - was also commented on by another speaker, Justin Longley of International Copper Resources. He showed a most interesting chart of analysts' predictions against real output which showed a huge divergence, based on figures from Xstrata.

The point perhaps that both speakers were making is that individual corporate presentations of copper mine supply are frequently heavily overestimated but many analysts may take these as reality without applying a big enough discount for projects which are cancelled, fall behind schedule or for major supply disruptions for technical, political and labour reasons. Real growth in copper consumption remains very strong, older mines are becoming depleted and grades are declining sharply.

Another interesting point which arose in Longley's presentation was the rate of copper usage per capita in the Asian sector in particular. It was pointed out that growth in Taiwan and South Korea has been very high in relation to the developed nations where the curve was lower because of the existing copper based infrastructure. But in the real growth economies like China and India, this growth pattern has hardly started yet, and should this rise to Korean or Taiwanese levels then the effect on the$ supply/demand pattern could enormous with price development which could make $9,000 copper itself a huge underestimate!

Moti probe continues

THE Ombudsman Commission’s investigations into the Moti affair are still underway.
Its inquiry began towards the end of last year and was one of three high profile investigations by government agencies.
The other two, one by the PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) and the other by the office of the Chief Secretary, were later rejected by Cabinet.
Tomorrow will mark one year since the Solomon Islands attorney general Julian Moti was secretly flown on a PNGDF aircraft to the Solomon Islands, to escape extradition to Australia.
The October 10, 2006 clandestine escape triggered the sacking of top bureaucrats and former Defence minister Martin Aini, the abandoning of two army and government inquiries, the establishment of a PNGDF board of inquiry, and a war of words between PNG and Australian leaders after Moti absconded bail and was flown out of the country. While the recommendations of the army inquiry against key people including Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare are yet to be taken up by relevant state agencies, the Ombudsman Commission has indicated its investigations were still underway.
“The commission made a public announcement that it would investigate the issue. The commission will again make public its findings once the investigation is complete. Until then, the commission will carry out its investigation in strict confidentiality as required by law,” Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno said when asked by the Post-Courier. The PNG Opposition, Australian-based good governance-expert Anthony Regan and former PNG attorney general Michael Gene have urged the Ombudsman Commission to look at the PNGDF board of inquiry’s report. Some of the recommendations of the army inquiry chaired by Justice Gibbs Salika suggested charges be laid against certain main players of the Moti saga under the Leadership Code .

der lag schon öffters falsch, als der Mann vom Wetter.

BOC ist ein fast Umsatzloser Explorationswert, der zum pushen geradezu verleitet.

 

Heute wieder in guter Stimmung, was? Sind bestimmt deine Depotwerte über nacht erneut stark gestiegen. LOL  

Nachdem Ihr allesamt angeblich auf mehreren 100% Gewinnen sitzt,

kann ich die allgemeine Aufregung hier nicht verstehen.

der Begriff Explorer kommt von erforschen.....

auf Bougainville muss nichts mehr erforscht werden, die Rohstoffvorkommen sind erforscht, bekannt und teilweise sehr erfolgreich bis 1989 aus dem Boden gefördert. Der Rest sollte für die Förderung der nächsten 50 Jahre reichen....

Als angeblich alter Rohstoffexperte solltest du das wissen.....

Aber mach ruhig weiter mit deinen Ergüssen, wir freuen uns über jeden Cent, den die Aktie aufgrund deiner profunden Aussagen fällt....In Australien hat heute echt einer aus Panik 500 St. verkauft, wahrscheinlich aufgrund deiner Aussagen hier....

TWO ministers in Bougainville have resigned from the New Bougainville Party over a motion by some members to form an Opposition.
Police Minister Ezekiel Massatt and Works Minister Patrick Nisira said they had tendered their resignation and it was up to the president of the Bougainville Executive Council to decide whether they should remain in their posts.
He said they would not join any party but remain independent.
“I would like to inform my fellow members that the decision taken by Mr Nisira and myself is for the best interest of Bougainville to maintain consistency in the Government and to contribute effectively to the development of the region,” Mr Massatt said.
He said they decided to resign after several discussions with the president.
Mr Massatt condemned the initiative of some members to form an Opposition.
“It is foolish as there is no proper timing and funds available,” he said.
He said that even though he was the leader of the party, he was never consulted on the issue.
“I am disappointed that party members are playing politics which is not in the best interest of the Bougainville people.
“We leaders are not here to play party politics but to effectively serve our people in delivering services and development infrastructure in the region.”
Mr Massatt said he and Mr Nisira were prepared to continue with the ministerial duties and that it was up to the council president to decide.
“But we have taken a stand to show that we have yet to complete our mission,” he said.

Da werd ich wohl niemals reich mit meinen BOC Aktien  :-(

Interessant der weitere Fall des Rohstoffes, welcher ja gefoerdert werden soll, in vielleicht 5-10 Jahren

  beinhaltet die Mine eigentlich auch Blei???

Denn Blei geht derzeit durch die Decke

Das koennte dann den Kurs weiter befluegeln oder ??

Ich frage mich nur, welche Formulierung das Rentier für einen solchen Anstieg korrekter Weise nutzen müsste. Schließlich spricht das ja schon bei Bewegungen im negativen 0,xx% Bereich vom freien Fall. Gar nicht auszudenken, welches Hausse-Geschrei das Bleich verseuchte Das bei Anstiegen im 5%-Bereich loslassen würde.
