Alderon Resources Corporation has a sizeable exploration budget for this year on their iron ore discovery in Labrador. The company will be spending about $16.1 million on their major discovery in western Labrador. President Mark Morabito says a 5,000 meter program is being carried out this winter, and they are awaiting results of a 25,000 meter drill program in 2010. He says they are fortunate this discovery is close to power, rail and port facilities and is located in an existing mining district. Morabito says the long term outlook on demand for iron ore is quite encouraging. Alderon believes that cost to bring a mine into production would be between 500 million to $700 million, but that's what their engineering studies will tell them."

Looks like I’m not the only one who thinks Alderon is the son of Consolidated Thompson!
After receiving analyst coverage from Haywood, Paradigm and Casmir last year, Alderon has now caught the attention of a major investment bank, CIBC. With initiating coverage titled “Alderon Resource Corp. – The Next Bloom Lake…Maybe”, it’s clear that Alderon is gaining more and more support as it aims to become the newest producer in the Trough.
Other highlights include:
- The final results from the 2010 drill program have been released and continue to confirm great thicknesses and grade
- The 2011 winter drill program has commenced
- An initial resource estimate is expected to be completed later this month, which is expected to be followed by an updated resource estimate and scoping study in the middle of this year

“We are extremely excited about this initial resource since we have exceeded our own publically stated objectives for the first resource and clearly demonstrated the viability of the project,” says Mark Morabito, President and CEO of Alderon. “As I stated on February 3, our goal for this resource was 400 to 500 million tonnes. We were targeting 600 to 800 million tonnes following the completion of the current winter program, which will now have to be revised and increased, once our current drilling is complete.”

In a business where it is the norm for companies to constantly over promise and under deliver, it is so refreshing to watch a story unfold like Alderon Resource Corp. This company has definitely made a habit of surpassing expectations and I anticipate the good news to continue, starting with the first set of drill results from the North Rose zone!

Alderon Resource Corp. "TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Alderon Resource Corp, hoping to build a C$1-billion iron ore mine in western Labrador, has signed confidentiality agreements with “one or two” major mining companies interested in buying it out, and has also inked non-disclosures with 12 Asian steelmakers interested in offtake deals, CEO Mark Morabito said on Tuesday.
The TSX V-listed company owns the Kami iron ore project near Labrador City that neighbours mines owned by Rio Tinto, ArcelorMittal and Cliffs Natural Resources.
Speaking to reporters after a presentation, Morabito said he expected the company would sign even more confidentially agreements as steelmakers in China aggressively sought to gain access to raw material supplies outside of the three biggest iron ore miners, Vale, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.
“The Chinese want to get away from that and they know they have to get to these projects before the large iron-ore companies do,” he commented, adding that his company expected to sign more confidentiality agreements with Chinese steelmills.
“Instead of us having to go out and market our project to them, they’re finding us.”
Provided the company doesn’t get acquired first, Alderon aims to conclude an offtake agreement and debt financing package from an Asian steelmaker by the first quarter of 2012.

"It’s great to see North Rose developing with such positive results and we are excited to have this new zone included in the updated resource estimate later this year,” says Mark Morabito, President and CEO of Alderon.

results are released.
Alderon continues to exceed the goals they set for themselves. First they far surpassed
their goal with their initial resource estimate and now they are proving up what, until a few months ago, was only an exploration target. This week Alderon released yet another set of exceptional drill results from the new zone, North Rose.

Tonnen pro Jahr aufweise, so Macquarie.
