Deutsche Telekom (Frankfurt: 555750.F - Nachrichten) to implement unique PAL-quality video streaming project for multimedia in bayern ag Outstanding video image quality for T-DSL users

Sensational news for T-DSL customers from Deggendorf, Lower Bavaria: Software company multimedia in bayern ag (mmbag), an associated company of TRIA software AG, has developed a method enabling TV format videos plus simultaneous additional information to be accessed via Internet. mmbag selected Telekom as its partner for this broadband solution, which is based on the Telekom Broadcast Network with superior server architecture and high-speed T-DSL Internet user access.

During the T-DSL campaign, over 300,000 T-DSL connections had been marketed by the end of October 2000. "Higher bandwidth is the key trend in telecommunications for both business and private customers", explained Josef Brauner, Member of the Board for Sales and Service, at the Systems 2000 exhibition in Munich. By the end of this year Telekom's top-speed broadband service will be available to around 60 per cent of German households, a figure set to rise to 90 per cent by the end of next year.

T-DSL is Telekom's high-speed Internet access facility, based on its ADSL (Asynchron Digital Subscriber Line) technology. Data can be downloaded from the Internet via a 64 kbit/s channel at speeds of up to 768 kbit/s, 12 times faster than ISDN rates, both saving time and improving the quality of downloaded large-scale files or video images. The new technology also utilizes conventional telephone lines. "This is an outstanding technical solution for anyone planning to use T-DSL to distribute moving images", enthused Hans H. Wedenig, CEO of the Deggendorf company. The streamdreamer(R) platform is the first solution worldwide to link TV's familiar PAL format to a presentation (720x576 pixels) incorporating a simultaneous display of additional information. For example, viewers of news programmes can call up more detailed information on the topics covered - completely independently of conventional TV programming schedules. This technological milestone was a prime factor in Telekom's decision to work with the Deggendorf software company. With immediate effect, the T-DSL portal http://www.streamworld.de will carry a link to the mmbag technology. According to mmbag, TRIA software AG's association with mmbag enabled the demo version of the world's first UMTS moving-image solution in full TV quality to be developed.
