ADB funds post tsunami utility connections
COLOMBO: The Asian Development Bank approved the provision of assistance on a grant basis from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR9077-SRI) to the Government of Sri Lanka for implementation of the Post Tsunami Utility Connections Project.
This project intends to improve the quality of life of poor households affected by tsunami, by giving them access to electricity and water, and make the poor more aware of the use of utility connections. Selected NGOs as Project implementing partners are now being engaged for selection of tsunami affected poor households from Galle, Matara, and Ampara Districts in accordance with the guidelines stipulated in the project document approved by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Sri Lanka.
The objective of the Project is to provide tsunami affected poor households with electricity and water supply connections for reconstructed houses. This Project targets the poorest of the affected people who do not have utility connections and contribute toward improving their living conditions. This Project will cover four of the tsunami affected districts, Galle and Matara from the Southern province and Ampara and Batticaloa from the North East province. During the project period it is planned to provide 8,000 water and electricity connections.
A public awareness campaign also will be carried out to educate the selected poor households for sustainable use of power and water.
The grant finance shall be Rs. 40,000 per household being Rs. 20,000 for each supply connection, (water and electricity). The allocation will cover the cost of connection charges, internal wiring and laying charges of the pipes. The Asian Development Bank has established a Project Management Unit (PMU) for the implementation of the project and plan to complete the project before November 2006.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS & DB) are the executing agencies of respective utility connections. CEB and NWS&DB are responsible for ensuring technical compliance and standard of utility connections.
District secretaries and Divisional secretaries will recommend selection of poor households deserving for the grant assistance.
Tsunami affected poor people who have reconstructed their houses under the owner driven housing program implemented by the government will directly benefit from the project.

Ich glaube zwar nicht, dass das was mit Jeff, Axia und dem Sentry5000 zu tun hat, doch auf jeden Fall werden die Aufbauarbeiten nun wesentlich mehr unterstützt! Dieses Problem wird nun gelöst und der Häuseraufbau kann damit schneller vorangehen!

Und wenn der Umsatz erstmal da ist gibt es auch eine Chance, dass sich der Kurs erholt.
Vielleicht sollten wir Karin Siemens zum netten Herrn Surber schicken damit sie sich tatkräftig für dieses Anliegen einsetzt.
Und zum Jeff damit er endlich seine Quartalsberichte fertig kriegt. Oder besser nicht.
Wie auch immer mein Investment ist inzwischen sowenig wert, dass ich damit noch nicht mal die Transaktionskosten bezahlen könnte.
Haben die jetzt was drauf oder nicht? Erfolg sieht jedenfalls anders aus.

Sri Lanka to offer US$ 250 mn bonds to market this month
June 2, 2006 (LBO) – Sri Lanka will offer the first tranche of a medium term bond issue, worth 200 million dollars to market players later this month, as the government looks for ways to pay for hefty imports of oil, wheat and sugar, officials said Friday.
Central Bank's public debt department told primary dealers that the first 150 million dollars will carry two-year tenure while 50 million dollars will be offered for three-years at a premium above the London Interbank offered rate.
The Sri Lanka Development Bond or SLDB issue forms part of a 300 million dollar debt issue, which the government hopes to raise in a staggered basis till September, Central Bank's Deputy Governor W A Wijewardene said.
SLDBs were first issued in June 2002, raising 250 million dollars, mainly to bridge the budget deficit. The bonds were re-issued for 250 million dollars in June 2004.
Of the present issue, 144.75 million dollars are schedule to mature on June 28, while 50.00 million dollars will mature on August 18, and 55.25 million dollars expire on September 9 this year, according to Central Bank figures.
The upcoming 300 million dollar issue will replace debt maturing this year and include new bonds worth 50 million dollars.
A separate 250 million dollar 'patriotic' bond issue was announced in March with the first tranche of 25 million dollars being offered to Sri Lankans residing overseas.
Response to the first tranche, which has been priced around AAA rated OECD country debt, has however, been poor.
Fitch has assigned a 'BB-', while S&P gave it a 'B+'.
The government was earlier planning to push a billion dollar bond issue of 7 to 10-year tenure with Citibank as the manager, using the country's sovereign rating.
In April, Fitch and Standard & Poor's cut Sri Lanka's credit outlook to negative from stable, reflecting the island's worsening security situation.
The development bonds will target local commercial banks, but the state owned Bank of Ceylon is planning another 250 million bond targeting foreign banks.
Sri Lanka's official foreign reserves rose to 3 billion dollar upto April, but a net reserve outflow has started in May.
The rupee came under pressure on early morning trade Friday after news of Central Bank Governor Sunil Mendis' resignation hit the markets.

Print E-mail Save Sri Lanka president vows to finish tsunami rebuilding by year endCOLOMBO, May 31, 2006 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse said here Wednesday that the reconstruction process of the homes destroyed by the December 2004 tsunami disaster will be completed by the end of this year.
Addressing a Japanese delegation, Rajapakse blamed the non- governmental organizations, both foreign and local, for failing to complete the reconstruction of the homes destroyed along the coastal belt in time.
The Dec. 26, 2004 tsunamis killed about 40,000, left over one million homeless and a reconstruction bill of over 1.6 billion U.S. dollars in Sri Lanka.
Those who were left homeless along the coastal belt say that reconstruction of little over half of the homes destroyed by the tsunamis had so far been completed.
The World Bank early this month said that worsening security situation due to an upsurge of violence has also slowed down the reconstruction process.
Only about 15 percent of the reconstruction has been completed in the north and east compared to 85 percent in the rest of the country, the bank said.
The non-governmental and volunteer organizations which undertook rehabilitation work say that various administrative bottlenecks have stood in the way of an expeditious reconstruction effort.

Hier sollen Häuser für Senioren entstehen. Axia könnte an dem MEGADEAL beteiligt werden! Immerhin haben sie schon 1 Million Dollar in dieses Projekt investiert ;-)
Wir können also nicht nur aus Sri Lanka mit positiven Nachrichten rechnen, sondern auch aus Indien, aus Pakistan und bis 31. Juli auch aus Arizona! Axia KZ 50 Dollar! ;-)
Safe Travel Care, welches ebenfalls von Jeff Flannery geführt wird und mit Titan Energy einen Exklusivvertrag vereinbart hat, könnte demnächst übernommen werden! Und zwar von unserer AXIA GROUP! Das würde Sinn machen!
Ursprünglich wollte Axia das Unternehmen Titan Energy und deren Erfindung, den Sentry5000 übernehmen.

Doch dann hat Jeff nochmal nachgerechnet und ist zu dem Ergebnis gekommen,
dass sich Axia diesen Deal aktuell nicht leisten kann. Also ist Axia von
dem Kaufvertrag zurückgetreten und hat sich lediglich einen Exklusivvertrag
bezüglich der Vermarktung des Sentry5000 auf Sri Lanka gesichert! Einige Tage
später verkündet Safe Travel Care, dass sie an einer Übernahme von Titan Energy

Wenn also Safe Travel Care Titan übernimmt und anschließend von Axia selbst
übernommen wird, hätte Jeff sein Ziel eventuell kostengünstiger erreicht.

noch mit den Schulden aus 2004 und 2005 zu kämpfen hat. Da Jeff Geschäftsführer
von Axia und Safe Travel Care zugleich ist, dürfte eine Fusion hier unproblematisch
sein ;-)
Fakt ist, Safe Travel Care ging letzte Woche um über 47 Prozent nach oben! Da ist auf jeden Fall was im Busch! Und Jeff ist Geschäftsmann! Da geht doch was...

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said better management techniques and financial discipline was being introduced into institutions under Government control together with extensive review and implementation process.
President Rajapaksa was speaking at the CIMA business leaders summit 2006 at the BMICH on Thursday. The President making his speech via satellite transmission from Temple Trees, pointed out that all Government Ministries, departments and projects are being regularly monitored and evaluated.
President Rajapaksa said there was today an urgent need for all to focus on how to unlock hidden talents, resources and potential of our people and our country.
The President said:
"As we know, Sri Lanka has a proud and long history of over 2,500 years. During such period, our country and its people have been generally considered to be highly civilised, skilled and literate. However, over the past few centuries, perhaps due to foreign intervention, we may have lost some part of our ability to develop rapidly and keep pace with the rest of the world. As a result, we have not been able to establish our rightful place as a developed Nation from an economic standpoint.
But now, I truly believe that we as a Nation have the ability to progress and develop rapidly. We have the potential to succeed and excel. Let me cite a few reasons for my bold comment. As you know, over the past six months, my Government was able to successfully commence many projects that were stalled and blocked for several years.
The new coal power plant which is one of the single largest projects in the history of our country, is now on track. The construction activities on the Southern Expressway is continuing with renewed vigour. Work on the Katunayake Expressway has commenced.
Projects such as the Hambantota Port, Weerawila Airport, and other mega projects on power, water, tourism, industries, property development, drainage, ports, roads and irrigation are well on the way towards commencement soon.
Over the next few years, I would really like to see new enterprises being established in all parts of our country; our small enterprises being converted into medium sized ones; our medium sized enterprises being transformed into large-scale business institutions; our large-scale companies being expanded to become regional and international players.

Bei allem Optimismus,
aber was haben die News mit AXIA gemeinsam? Der letter to the shareholder ist alt! Du kopierst doch nur irgendwelche News aus Srilanka und versuchst einen Zusammenhang zu finden, den es nicht wirklich gibt. Das ist Fakt.
Der Jeff sollte mal was auf die Beine stellen, sonst ist der Kurs dort, wo er vor dem Split war. Und das dauert nicht mehr lange ...
Und überlege mal selbst, wenn Jeff (AXIA) wieder Geld braucht, dann wird er demnächst wieder Aktien unter die Leuten bringen. Egal zu welchen Preis!
